Wild Blue - Lake Powell Prop

Hi Jim, (Wild Blue)

I am trying to decide what prop I should get for a back up. I have the same honda 135 as you do and I am getting the same results with the 14.5 x 15 stainless 3 blade Solas. I was wondering if you had low performance when you were at Lake Powell? I hope to get there in a couple of years so if your prop worked OK than I would buy a similar one in aluminum for my back up. If it didn't, I thought I would try a 15 x 13.5 aluminum 3 blade. Any info would be appreciated to help me make my decision.

Thanks

You might look at "Hooked on Powell"'s comments--he went down to an 11" prop, with the 130. We always dropped down 2" in pitch with both the 25 130 and 22 90 hp engines.

Hi Mark,

Yeah, Wild Blue seemed doggy on Lake Powell. I expected it at Yellowstone and Lake Tahoe, but at 3,800 feet or so, I didn't expect the performance loss at Powell. As always, Dr. Bob called it right on. I have a 4 blade composite prop that has some adjustability, and it was even worse. I would think an 11" pitch would be a much better solution.

As it was, we were working hard to get in the mid to upper teens at Powell. We were heavily loaded (as usual). I just ran where the boat felt comfortable. If I were going to spend a lot of time there, I would definitely add another prop to the mix.

Sorry I didn't get a chance to respond sooner... this workin' stuff sure gets in the way of my internet time.

Best wishes,
Jim

Thanks everyone for the responses. Thanks Jim for taking the time to respond. I just know after reading so many of your posts that your boat seems to run just like mine. I'll look into getting a lower pitch prop for my backup and to use on Lake Powell.

Thanks everyone,
