OK...it's official. I can finally take the wraps off of the latest addition to the C-Brat stable.

The Da Nags and The C-Lous are proud to introduce...Pee Wee! As of this afternoon, we're the lucky new owners of a 1990 16 Angler.

Jon and I have chatted informally about getting a smaller boat for launching out of Freshwater Bay - the ramp is right down the street from us, but it's too shallow/small to launch a 22. We came to the conclusion a 16 Angler would be perfect, but it was something we thought we'd look into in a few years once Dana and I move up there.

That is...until I stumbled upon a pretty sweet deal about 10 days ago. While surfing craigslist, I stumbled across a 16 Angler in Friday Harbor. It sounded like a great deal, but since we weren't really ready to buy yet, I didn't think too seriously about it. A couple days later I mentioned it to Jon...well, one thing led to another, and we convinced each other it was worth looking into.

Unfortunately, we had waited too long. By the time we got hold of the seller, his phone had been ringing off the hook, and he had promised first crack at it to somebody else. I did everything short of beg the guy for it...offered him more than he was asking, offered to wire the money immediately, etc. Best I could get out of him was a promise to call us back if the first deal fell through. When I heard that, I figured we had lost it.

Then, last Sunday, the phone rang. The owner lives in Bellingham, and had made the trip out to Friday Harbor to meet the buyer. The buyer called, and backed out of the deal...we were offered next shot at it. Monday morning, I wired the guy a deposit to hold it.

Jon and Cynthia went out there this morning to inspect and finalize the deal. Everything checked out...the boat is as good or better than the owner described it, and they are on the way back home with the boat as I type.

It was a very, very fortunate find. It has virtually new Yamaha's - a 40HP main, and 5HP kicker. Both engines have less than 50 hours. It has a drop canvas that's almost new. The exterior is sound, but will take some elbow grease to clean up a bit. The interior is in great shape. It has very little "jewelry"...the hull is as untouched as one could probably find for a boat this old. No rod holders, downriggers, transducers, through hulls...we get to rig it like we want, with nothing there to get in the way or repair.

It came with a roller trailer which Jon says is pretty beat up, but as long as he and Cynthia make it back home OK, that's good enough for us. It just needs to carry the boat 1/2 mile down the road to the ramp on a regular basis...if something fails on the trailer, we'll just walk back home.

We're a little giddy right now...pics to be posted in the next couple days.

Congratulations on the new addition to your family! I wish you guys the best of times with the new Gal. Sounds llike you'll have a ball with her.

Cool! And congrats! Now later when you also buy a 25 or the C-ranger 32, you'll have a smoking dinghy to tow behind!

Seriously though, if I had the storage space, it'd be cool the have the smaller brethren for quick trips out and about. Sounds like you got a great buy. Are you coming to Lopez? If so, ya' bringing both boats?

Hate to say it, but no...even though we'll be up in WA starting next week. We'll just be too busy over in Port Angeles finalizing things with our contractor...he's just about done with everything we're having him do.

For this year, we'll probably only hit two gatherings...Bellingham, and Sequim. We'll probably have Da Nag at Bellingham, but I'm guessing there's a good chance Pee Wee will make an appearance at Sequim.

How many durn boats do you guys need? At the moment, you are ahead of Dusty and Byrdman for boats in possession. Congratulations!

So Sequim will be Pee Wee's Big Adventure?

The right place at the right time.

Yup...and believe me, there's a bit of irony in how it came to be.

The reason I was watching craigslist, was due to the success of the C-Brats. Anyone who posts a boat for sale here, typically has a good idea of what they are worth if they peruse the forums a bit before posting. Likewise, anyone watching the site for boats knows what they are worth...in the relatively rare case where somebody posts a screaming deal here, it's gone almost immediately.

So...I surmised that the best deals would be found elsewhere. Folks who don't advertise here simply aren't as educated about the fanatical C-Dory following...the guy we bought from was flabbergasted at the response he got. He thought it was just a neat little cruiser...he actually thought it would take him a couple months to sell.

I called several Yamaha dealers last week, and priced out the new motors on Pee Wee. The 40HP with controls and the digital multi-function gauge would have run about $6,500 + tax installed. The kicker was discontinued, but it's probably worth about $1K. So...the way I look at it, we got the hull and trailer for $1000.

Do the math. We did OK.

Congratulations Bill and Jon, that's really slick.....now you two can go out fishin' on the 16' while Dana and Cynthia are out cruisin' on their 22's... :crook

Congratulations, guys!

Who's going to build the added storage for the 16?

I forgot, Bill. Did you ever buy a tractor / big wheel launching machine?

Joe.

It just makes good sense! :D Many of us have an SUV and an economy car. That translates well to the water, too! When we got our first boat, I found out that there are lots of multi-boat families. At the time, I thought that was a real extravagance. It didn't take me long to get it. 8)

Congrats on the new addition to the family! PeeWee should be a boatload of fun.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Great Job Da-Nag!! Yep, just about any C-Dory boat on a trailer that will get'r home and "a" motor on it that will get'r round the water is worth $10K.. Ya done good. Looked but no pics yet? How is the barn?

Whooo, what a day. From 4:00 a.m. to 10:00 pm is is how long it took for Pee Wee's big adventure. The low tides delayed things a bit with the Port Townsend Ferry cancellations and then Pee Wee sitting high and dry on the beach when we got there.

The ride home was a little iffy. I was expecting anything to happen with a 1986 EZ loader trailer. It was in pretty rough shape so I greased the bearings and added about 30 psi in each tire. She made it home fine with just one tail light working.

Pee Wee is now officially a Freshwater Bay boat. We got her home late last night and this morning I posted a few more "dirty pics" of Pee Wee. The next shots of Pee Wee will be when she's cleaned up.

And a big congratulations!!!

When I talked to C-Lou yesterday they were still in Friday Harbor and hoping to make the ferry. Surely a great deal, and Dusty knows a deal when he sees one  ...

See you in Pt. Angeles I hope - gotta get over and see the new avatar for real.

Dusty
