Well, I couldn't convince him to get a 16 footer. Yup my son Joe,C-Brat #17, and his wife Michele opted for a Ranger Tug, 21EC. What did I do wrong?

A friend in my Power Squadron has one and they love it. Both cute and capable. The Yanmar or Volvo both reliable power - just keep fuel and filters clean. A group of them did a passage to Alaska few years back. Your 16 could run circles around him speed wise though. :P

Anyway good to hear from you again Marty. 4200 posts and counting.

Well Bob, this boat has the Yanmar. How's it again I think it gets a Max of about six or seven miles per hour but it does just sip diesel. Thanks for the kind words, they are appreciated.
 
Well MartyP there is still hope. Years ago, before the R21 got all the fancy stuff added to it, like the extended cab and mast and the little Yanmar was under a box in the middle of the cockpit we owned one. My brother tired to talk us into a 22 C-dory at the time but we weren't feeling it. We loved the R21 and cruised from Olympia to Nanaimo, BC in that little tug. Well that led to a 21 Pompano made by Atlas Boat Works in Cape Coral , Fl. I drug that boat from Ramrod Key to Port Orchard and cruised it for a few years. We liked it so much we ended up getting the 25' Atlas Acadia which turned out to be just too difficult to launch and retrieve which brought us full circle back to my brothers suggestion of the C-dory 25'. Couldn't be happier with this boat that fulfills most of our needs. I would say all of our needs but every boat owner knows better than that lol.
That little cabin will get tighter and tighter as time goes on and the 22 C-dory will look better all the time.
 
He had a 22 C Dory back in the day and loved it. Thanks forr the glimmer of hope.
 
Marty, that little Ranger has a soul that calls out to us. Dont forget, boats are like fly rods, you can’t have just one.

No one here will consider you a "bad Dad," Marty. You raise 'em, give them your values and encouragement... and they'll still make their own darn decisions. :wink:

That said, I like that Ranger 21, especially in the later years before they discontinued them. Herb and Wilma (Stark) had an R21 and I went out with Herb a couple times... it wasn't going anywhere fast, but that's not the sensibility when piloting that cute boat. While I'd still prefer a C-Dory, I understand the appeal of the R21.

I assume he takes you out on it once in a while?

I'm becoming a C-dory Lover. Be It Known: it was an article on the Pompano 21 that brought C-Dorys into my focus. The Pompano21 and R21 are to small for us we figure and the c-dory stood out to us as having the best support group of all the brands competing in this category. So your family member may eventually feel he needs more room and even more support than other brands offer. The Prodical Son analogy comes to mind here.
