    Pot Pullers

Good luck with the shrimp pots in PWS. I had 3 stolen 2 weeks ago. It's been 4 years since I've had any stolen.

    Flasher vs Dodger

Dan, With a handline you'll have a limit as fast as you can drop the fish in the bucket once you find a school. Sea Wolf, Most of the salmon in Prince William Sound are hatchery fish, Prince William Sound doesn't have any major rivers coming into it. The last guess I heard was 30 million...

    Flasher vs Dodger

"Trolling sucks" pretty much sums up my opinion on the subject. I like to feel the fish strike and have a good fight, and for the fish to be able to jump unemcumbered by a string of crap behind it. I like catching them on light casting rods rather than heavy trolling gear. Some places the...

    Another Battery Question... Help!

    1. Most likely taking the house battery out of the circuit helped. 2. You're right the trolling motor won't keep up with the load. The VSR will prevent the starting battery from discharging if you have the emergency swich off. By keeping this switch on the VSR is not accomplishing anything...

    Garmin 198C

I bought one awhile back from BOE and have used it one 3 trips. I'm really impressed with what it can do, but this is the first chartplotter I've had so I'm easy to impress. I was recently in Haines and it accurately showed the the exact slip I was tied up in.

Close encounter of the Orca kind

A friend of mine was on the Tolleycraft that sunk a few weeks ago in PWS after hitting a whale that they didn't see. He can attest that they "can behave unpredictably". He hasn't broken out in disease yet but did momentarily lose control of his bladder, maybe that's the first symptom!

    NEWBIE

I am fairly new to the C-Dory world so my advise about C-Dory's is limited but here goes. Find every screw or bolt hole that penetrates balsa and seal it, before it gets wet. Spend a day doing this and you'll save lots of time down the road doing bigger repairs. There's been lots of...

New Dory, New user, Unbelievable story!

Just remember that when a fishfinder gets confused it won't admit that it doesn't know the answer, it will just keep spitting out useless information. I know lots of people like that.

    Crab Pots

Thanks Salmon Slayer, don't worry I won't set near your pots and foul your sets. I'm just stopping for a day in Juneau then heading out.

    Moose on the loose

There's a simple solution to the moose in the yard. Shoot them in the butt with a heavy arrow with a blunt tip and they'll never come back. When you first move into moose country and find them in your yard it's fun but that soon wears off.

    Crab Pots

Can ayone suggest somewhere in Haines to buy a pot for king crab? If not Haines then Juneau will do. I'll be heading from Haines to Juneau and points west in 2 weeks and king crab pots are pretty scarce in Fairbanks. Can anyone suggest a depth I should be looking for to drop the pot? Info is...

    Heavy Equipment?

It's hard to tell much about the tractor, it looks awful old but that may just be the salt air rust. I wouldn't count on doing much heavy dirt work with this tractor. If you've got lots of work to do it may be cheaper to rent equipment to do the initial dirt work. Old heavy equipment can get...

    New Sun Shade

That top is a heck of an idea. I'll look into it. I'm looking to build or buy something for a rain cover and maybe put side curtains on. Thanks for the info.

    Transom Savers

With our Alaskan roads being slightly sub-par I'm trying to figure out a few trailering issues so that the boat survives the many miles between here and saltwater. Do any of you use a transom saver on the motor? What type of hold down straps do you use at the stern, a single over the gunwales...

    Hard Top

    Hard Top

Art, What I'm envisioning is storing light bulky stuff like empty fuel cans, the back of a dinghy, shrimp pots etc. I am a little concerned about windage

    Hard Top

Nancy H, I looked through the albums for hardtops but seemed to have missed yours, thanks. Is the roof fiberglass over plywood. Thanks for your thoughts Joe. You're right this will require lots of figuring and compromises to get all the features I want and not cause problems in other areas...

    Hard Top

I am going to put some sort of hard top on my 22. What I'm envisioning is something covering the forward half of the cockpit with removal canvas on the sides to the gunwales and angling down in the rear to the splashwell. I want some rain protection and storage on top and dislike a normal...

    First Trip

I just got back from my first trip with the C-dory. We spent 4 days on Prince William sound and I've never seen such a long stretch of good weather there. There was never a time when we couldn't go as fast as we wanted and never a drop of rain. We got more halibut than we wanted and 12 lbs of...
