    Autopilots and hydraulic steering

"Chivita" has the both the Baystar and the SportPilot + mounted to twin Honda 40's. The Baystar system is what the factory installed when I bought her several years ago. This was the first boat I had owned that had either hydraulic or an autopilot so I'm not the most experienced. If I ordered...

    Cabin, fitting-out questions.

Nick, I've used LED lights in several locations and have been impressed by the results. They consume very little juice, the only caution I would add is that the light they put out is more concentrated. Kind off like the difference between a spot or a flood, with LED being the spot style. The...

    TC 25 Update

JSWYGAL, I was at the factory the other day asking about the TC and was told that the interior would be the same as the 25' C-Dory, but that the floor would not be as deep. Other than that apparently the interior is identical. Cockpit is bigger due to the brackets, no idea as to weight but you...

    Fire Extinguisher Location

One to the right of the Captain's leg (while seated), one (big guy) above the water tank under the cushion of the chair across from the Wallas, one in the cockpit by the port lazzerette. This way I figure I have one nearby no matter where I'm at, having read about too many boats destroyed by fire.

What is the recommended capacity (in people)?

It can also depend on who's catching fish. If everyone on board is reeling them in and you're not, somebodys got to go!

    water in transom

John, We have the same boat/same year as you with twin Honda 40's and have never had that issue, even in small craft advisory weather. We waited a year before putting trim tabs on so I don't believe that would be an issue. If we are just sitting or trolling in chop it has happened, but it is...

    keeping water potable

Vinegar works well and does not leave a nasty aftertaste. It's also a good solution if you are dumping your tank straight into a water source as it is not a chemical byproduct.

    C-Dory Safety

Dangerous as that must be, it sure looks like a lot of fun! Probably get arrested it I tried that around Seattle, even without the rifle!! Heck, try that anywhere near SeaTac airport approach pattern and I'd be target practice for the Coast Guard!!

    GPS ANTENNA ADVICE NEEDED

I have had similar sucess as Casey but with a Garmin external mushroom style antenna mounted on the small shelf above the pilot's head. It pulls in the same number of satellites as when I tried it on top of the cabin roof, but I cannot claim this as my idea, Les suggested I try it and it has...

    Garmin , Raymarine or ????

Dusty (and all) Have you found that a Garmin NEMA interconnect with a Raymarine autopilot does not work well? I am having issues with this currently and plan on installing a new Raymarine Smartpilot on another boat that has a Garmin GPS. Thanks! "Chivita" Dave

    New C-Dory brochure

Actually there are TWO Red Fox photos, the second is on the last page. The inside cover photo is titled "The Spirit of Adventure" with the following statement: "You find it in C-Dory owners like Greg Davidson who runs his 20 year old C-Dory 22' Angler Red Fox up in Prince William Sound, Alaska...

    The unforseen dangers of passengers

A Captain with a whale watching boat full of seniors is out on the Sound, when a little old lady taps him on his shoulder. She offers him a handful of almonds, which he gratefully munches up. After approximately 15 minutes, she taps him on his shoulder again and she hands him another handful...

    here, practice docking

Sorry Mark, I'm still trying to get the dang boat into a slip before I let them try. They seem to think it would be more realistic if the boat sank after watching my lame attemps!

Thanks Ken! Great game/practice, only thing missing are the cuss words you normally hear during the process..

    Tsunami

One of the many things my father shared with us from living on the water was the old adage, "Never turn your back to the sea". I think I'll call him up and make a small change to that saying, "Unless you are running like hell to get away from it!"

    Superchips for Turbo Diesels

Byrdman, There are several great web sites for turbo diesels, hopefully DaNag has the best ones for a Ford. www.turbodieselregister.com may have some info on Fords but it is mainly a Cummins based site. You can usually find quite a few discussions regarding performance chips on those sites as...

is the 22' right for me?

I agree with what Matt has said about trimming the boat. Having used our 22' without tabs for a year and then adding them for the next year, they make all the difference in the world. I suggest that you add them to your wish list. If you are of a mechanical nature, they are not difficult to...

    Wheel Bearing Grease

There is one other positive of the Air-Dock versus the Hydro-Hoist. As a family just found out at Lake Washington, if your Hydro-Hoist connection starts leaking and you don't catch it, you end up with a $10,000 water bill. The Air-Dock connections are not as likely to freeze and then break, and...
