04/10 - 04/11 - Cathlamet Cruise

Hi Ray

I don't have a good fishing report right now. I went springer fishing 10 days ago and marked a lot of fish on sonar, but didn't catch any. Went with my neighbor and he showed me where they like to fish.
I have my boat getting the kicker moved from port to starboard, supposed to get it back this week. So I hope to have a good fishing report soon.

I haven't got a lot to say but I got bothered that the first planned wetting of the Lynn Marie's bottom is getting farther and farther down the cruising and gathering list so I thought if I made a post it might get back on top and I'd feel better. All you guys up north talking about get to gethers gets to a guy and at this point I don't even have any B-C smelt.

Tim

Tim, may have to ration, but you'll get some smelt.
Pat, between Larry and myself, we'll get you totally confused on how to get to Cathlametstan when we meet at J. Cove......just remember, if you hit Da Nag's house, you've gone to far

Ken,
Not to worry. If the smelt aren't in the river then the sturgeon may not find them to be as attractive so other bait may be better anyway. How much anchovy you got stashed?
Tim

I don't have any anchovies stashed. If the smelt don't show up we may resort to trying dog feces...I know where we can get some of that, although it's not the big blue label stuff, it's the little stuff from little dogs :)

Couldn't think of a better way to use my 100th post than to say we will be at the Cat-lamb-it cruise :D.

Right now planning on pulling in early AM on Saturday. Maybe someone on that springer infested stretch of water could post the high/low tides for that weekend in case we need to adjust our arrival/departure times. Have not made motel ressy's yet but will track back through this thread to get that taken care of.

Which place is closest to the Marina there? Don't want to have to walk to far after a day of nettin' mini-pigs for the lovely Terrie don't ya know :wink.

What size herring you recommend draggin' around? We got lot's of the purple label we fish the Nehalem with.

Jon

WD Jon, don't know much about Catlament motels or Herring dragging but I do know of a good web site for tide info, I posted it in the fishing links thread. Glad you folks can make it, look forward to meeting you's

Got your email and replied. Forgot to mention.... If you're coming from Portland take the Longview Bridge across the Columbia. Then take a left at the first light across the bridge.... follow that (432) for about 6 miles till you get to the SR4 intersection. Take a left there and follow SR4 for 20 miles to Cathlamet. As you are coming into Cathlamet there are 2 gas stations the one on the right is a Shell Station, they sell fishing licenses. The Standard Station on the left also sells frozen herring for bait.
If you're coming from Astoria direction you can go across the Astoria-Megler Bridge to get to Cathlamet, or you can head east on Hwy 30 and take the ferry at Westport. The ferry costs only $3 for a car. Not sure how much it is for a car and boat. Maybe Tyboo Mike can shed some light on that. It's cheap anyhow.
Anymore questions, please feel free to ask.

Larry,

Thank's. We are comming up through Astoria. Have herring will travel :wink.

May be a silly question but, If we are fishing out of a WA port, will our OR license and tags be okay :?. I think it is if we are fishing the Columbia.

Jon

Helen'O Larry,

Thanks.

I called the Marina there today to get some other local info and asked about needing a reservation for mooring. He said that they don't take reservations and asked how many boats there were coming. I told him probably ten or so and he seemed to be taken aback by this. He said well I guess we can put them over on dock E. Do we need to nail this down with them or has someone taken care of this with someone else there?

Just got an email saying my new Scotty rod holders were being shipped (yippee) these are the last thing I needed to get mounted before this trip.

I visited the Elochoman Marina today to find out what is up. Found out that the Harbormaster (Jim Mast) had double bypass heart surgery 2 weeks ago. His substitute (Bob) wasn't aware of our gathering until WD called yesterday. My note was pinned to the bulletin board right where Jim had left it. We're good to go. :thup
Bob said the mooring fee for a 22' would be $6 per night plus $4 for electricity.
Jim is expected back right about the time of our gathering.

Larry -

Why in the world would you be going to the marina on a day like today? I hope you launched and went fishing, since you were there anyway. I looked out across the river on my way up the hill after work this afternoon, and it was spectacular. My end of the river was breezy and a little lumpy, but your stretch was calendar photo quality looking at it from high above.

Cool deal, and thanks for keeping the locals up to snuff. The last two years, they also gave us E Dock. There was plenty of room for a whole bunch of boats last time around, and I'm sure they will have room for us this time.

You will be staying aboard your boat in the water that weekend, won't you? Oh, sure you will. Too long of a commute. If the weather is anything like the last couple of days, we might even con the WD-50's into the boaterhoming experience.

Mike

I became concerned after reading in WD's post last night that he'd called the marina and they were'nt aware that we were coming. I figured something was wrong, cause I'd talked with Jim Mast for about an hour when I signed us up for the gathering last month. I'm sure glad they caught his heart problem in time, Jim is a heck of a nice guy.
I doubt that I'll be sleeping on my boat during this gathering. My wife has to work that weekend, and I've invited a few C-Brat buddies with less than 22's to spend the nights in our spare bedrooms. So will probably be running back and forth to the harbor. It'll be fun.
As the gathering gets closer I'll make sure everyone has my cell phone number just in case they run into problems, gets lost, etc...

Larry,

Did you by chance get an address where we could send get well or else cards to Jim Mast? May not get a lot of those in Cantlandit. (B~C, don't want to be one of these on the cruise)

A bunch of CD owner mail might help his spirits, or send him back to the table .

Jon

if those smelt don't show up for real, I'll be afraid to show up in Cathercantstandit, allready been threatend with rock throwing. The harbormaster is one helluvu a good egg for sure, a card may be a good thing....twood sure be nice if the weather was like this for the event.
