06/02 - 06/04 - Lankford Bay Marina, Eastern Shore

OK, we're now up to 29 Boats for sure, with another 10 yet to respond to my query. They came last year, maybe again this year! A new record for sure, with over 60 days to go until the gathering.

Some folks have indicated that they do not yet have marina reservations. Unless you can walk on water, :disgust

Better do it sooner rather than later!!

Will post a new spreadsheet now....

Charlie

We really don't want anyone to be disappointed, so if you are pretty sure you are coming, please reserve your slip asap. The marina can only accommodate so many, and then it is moorings, and then anchoring out.

We will find a way, of course. to make it possible.

Charlie, thanks for all you are doing. You should consider a second career in stuff like wedding planning, or tour guide for Carnival Cruises, or maybe working for the CIA as a logistical expert.(hmmm.maybe you do....)

tom/terraplane

Tom's right. The following boats/usernames either have not responded that they have reservations, or indicated "not yet" when I asked them

Boat Name / User Name if on C-Brat Site/ Marina Reservations?

Alma's Only/ Alma's Only/ ?
C's the Day/ gotjm3/ Not Yet
Anne-B/ Anne-B/ ?
Espada/ fiddlersgreen6/ ?
Katie Marie III/ katie Marie III/ ?
C-Trek/ Teflonmom/ ?
Halcyon/ jcbatty@goeaston.net/ ?
C-Byrd/ Byrdman/ ?
Odd-a-C/ sydmargo / ?
Sea Gypsy / Sea Gypsy / Not Yet
Plan-B/ Stanley-J / ?

For those counting, that's 11 out of our 29!

Better get hot folks.... If you have reservations, please let me know so I can correct our records.

Thanks.... CIA and Logistics? Isn't that an Oxymoron or something? And no, I didn't call you a moron... :smilep

Well, don't be so sure of that record, Charlie - we have 32 boats signed up for Lopez for the May 5 - 7 gig in the San Juans!

I drove down to Cutter marine this morning to pick up my camper back canvis that Dave @ King Marine put on a new c-dory being delivered to cutter. That drive into there is real nice from Pa. My question is can someone tell me how much further of a drive from 83/695 split is Lankford bay and what kind of drive, i.e. scenic, congested, etc. The reason for my question was since I am coming from the North, I could simply put in at Cutter and park my vehicle/trailer there for the weekend plus have a nice cruise down to Rock Hall, which appears to be about an hour boat ride? Your thoughts

p.s. that trip to cutter and seeing all the folks getting there boats ready really got the boating bug in me buzzing!

Joe, take a look at the maps and charts. If you come down the West Side, you've got to contend with the infamous Bay Bridge and on a June Friday at that. That's the way we'll come but I plan to be there by noon. If you come down the East side, it's probably farther for you, through Del, etc. it's about an hour from the West side of the Bay bridge, very senic on that side. The first part of the trip is typical freeway, etc. Takes me about 3 hours from the DC beltway (495) out Rt 50.

If you've got a place at Cutter to store your rig, that sounds like a great way to do it, avoid a lot of highway traffic.

Thank you charlie. I ordered charts of the area yesterday. As long as everything looks good on the charts, Tina & I will put in a cutter and boat down. Once I finalize this I'll let you know as well as call Lankford and "unreserve" trailer parking. The way it sounded when I made my reservation they were not over blessed with parking area. Thanks again

Joe, putting in at Cutter would save you about an hour or more in drive time for sure. If you trailer all the way to Lankford, the eastern route would probably actually be shorter than running down to the Chesapeake Bay Bridge, and you'd avoid the Baltimore Beltway. The route toward Philly you probably know, and it's not too scenic from there to below Wilimngton - after that, you're more out in the country. If you deciede to go that route, let me know, and I can give you some short-cuts from I-95 to the marina. Here's a link to some directions that give you a rough idea of the eastern route. map

Boat ride from Cutter is pretty easy, but you're not going straight across the Bay to Rock Hall - the marina's not in Rock Hall proper, it's over on Langford Creek. You'll need to drop down south to the mouth of the Chester River, go around Eastern Neck, and then run upriver to Langford Bay. Still a nice ride, but allow for more time.

Joe, there's trailer parking in Tom Terraplane's field, no need to park at the marina. The plan to launch at Cutter sounds good though, more time on the boat which is great....

Bad news, good news... Byrdman is working so hard planting pansies that he can't bring his boat up.

Good news.... He will/may come for the food (big surprise :smileo ) if he can AND, more good news, a new 2006 CD 25 from St Jeromes Creek, MD, crewed by Gary P and Sharon (not sure which one is the admiral and which one is the captain) will join us. So we're still at 29 boats and climbing..... Gary, need the name of your boat for the list, sent you a PM in response to yours...

Definitely put in at Cutter and come across...and easy trip if the weather if good.

Friday's on Chesapeake Bay Bridge, out of Annapolis , are to be avoided. The back up on a summer weekend can be horrendous...sometimes as much as five miles.

Charlie, Tom & John;

Thanks for all your input. Based on what I've read from the three of you and looking at the maps/directions I am defintely going to put in at Cutter. Ruthie told me it would be no problem and if I wanted to come down Thursday evening and spend the night she would see what she could do for me with regards to a slip. My plan is final and I am really excited to meet all of you and check out all the C-Dory's :P :P :P

Just talked to John A. and he says the reservations are coming in..he complimented us: "this crowd is obviously experienced...they are a good group to deal with.."

When slips run out, he will raft up some boats (discounted rate) and put some on moorings in the little harbor. No electric in those cases.

There are six slips remaining for us with electric.

Just hung up from calling Lankford & reserving my slip. I was told I was the 30th boat to make reservations for the C-Dory gathering!

Question... How many people are taking a dinghy, and what type of dinghy?

After reading everyone's response about a Fatty Knees I have decided to go with an inflatable. Will I need it before this gathering? If not I will wait & look at everyone else's setup before I decide what to buy.

Also I hope you all do not mind if I ask to see your navigation equipment, as I am holding off on buying anything until after the gathering.

Which brings me to another point... If I get really lost will someone come & rescue me? I'll just shoot 3 arrows in to the air...

Al, we'll be posting directions to everything about two weeks before the gathering. Glad you got a slip but don't have 30 boats on my list....If you're coming and haven't signed up on the list or let me know separately, please do so.

As for a dingy, not sure why you'd need one. There isn't any place where you have to anchor out and as long as you have a slip, you wont have a use for one. If it's an inflatible and you carry it uninflated, it'll not be in the way. If you're coming on a trailer, and I think you are, it's pretty hard to hold down at highway speeds if it's inflated.

If you don't ask us to look at our nav systems, we'll all be disappointed!

Well, darned if Rick from Maine didn't sneak himself onto our attendance list! Welcome!!

He makes 30 now and I've posted a new spreadsheet in the documents forum. I still need a little info from folks but will let things slide for awhile to see if it comes in. I've pestered folks enough lately. :crook

For those thinking about cruising in the area before or after our spectacular gathering, you may be interested in some advanced reading. Here are a couple of web sites to whet your appetite!

The Chesapeake Bay Gateways (National Park Service sponsored) has some nice info on the Bay, its history, and explorations for boaters. The section on the Eastern Shore has a wealth of links to sites in the region.

For any of you contemplating the little jaunt Tom has mentioned up the Choptank, the Bay Gateways has a great Choptank and Tuckahoe River Guide. If you really want to get into detail, there is a site-by-site guide to the Choptank that notes every old ferry, lost 17th century town, and steamboat wharf along the way (I'm taking a copy along with me). There's a nifty mapping program for it as well.

Trying to reconcile the signup sheet here in the EVENT SIGNUPS and my spreadsheet.

We have 30 Boats signed up according to my spreadsheet, including

Teflonmom (C-Trek)
Stanley-J (Plan-B)
and jcbatty (C-Jay) who has an e-mail address is not a C-Brat (yet)

Who have not signed up in the Event Signups.. jcbatty cannot, so that leaves Teflonmom (who I'm positive is coming, he's already sent me some great nametags to make for folks) and Stanley-J who I'm pretty sure is coming. Byrdman signed up but can't bring his boat, he's too busy planting pansies  :love :rose2 but may attend just to eat, something he excels at.

Terraplane has led me to believe that there may be a couple of more lurking out there. If so, please let me know asap. We're about to order t-shirts, which is the next milestone. I still need to know if the following users/boats want T-shirts...

Alma's Only/Alma's Only ?
Life Savor/ Arboman ?
Katie Marie III/katie Marie III ?
C-Jay/jcbatty@xxxx ?
C-Byrd/Byrdman ?
Sea Angel/Sea Angel ?
Plan-B/Stanley-J ?

Forgive me if you've told me, but please tell me again, us old folks need all the help we can get... I'll ask C-Jay separately since they are not on this site....

30 Boats now and climbing, gotta beat those left coasters!! :thup :love

Hi Charlie, Tom et al,

Yup, it’s official! Hunky Dory is headed to the Chesapeake from Maine. We’re looking forward to re-uniting with Erie Canal cruisers and adding new C-Dory friends. We’re arriving Weds ( 5/31) so that I can attend an International Stamp Show in DC on Thurs ( 6/10). The last International Show in this country was 20 years ago, so I’m not waiting for the next one. We plan on playing on the boat on Fri and Sat and of course participating in C-Brat Gathering activities.

I’d like to do sound measurement trials on any boats with different engines to get some objective Sound data while we’re there. So look out if ya see a Geek with an instrument in his hand headed for your boat.

Rick and Carol from Maine

Charlie,

I may want several (2 to 5) more t-shirts for my kids and one for my dad. Are you going to have kid's sizes? Also I got the adc chartbook for the Chesapeake and took a look at the route from Cutter to Lankford. Looks like it will be a nice trip across. One Question, is it possible to go safely between the Eastern Neck and Eastern Neck Island? They show a fixed vertical bridge and it appears it may be too shallow? Your thoughts (or anyone else's familiar with the area) please. I love going into all the little nooks and crannies I can, but don't like the thought of damaging by boat in the process. Thanks
