06/02 - 06/04 - Lankford Bay Marina, Eastern Shore

Hi all, down on the river here at our other place working on Sally's boat. Tom, I think we may have 34 now, LUNA PEARL says they're coming but my list is on the other laptop in Stafford. Will be up there Monday/Tuesday and I'll update it then. Three folks have asked for a hard copy to be mailed to them and I'll do that then too.

Hello everyone,

Well, just 16 days to go! Charlie says we are at 34 boats, ( a new record for a c dory gathering if it holds)....I was over at Cutter's having my 200 hour service Tuesday and Wednesday (by the way, the yard crew there and the mechanic..i always forget his name...are super...efficient, friendly and open to suggestions.)...anyway, i ran into several people there who are coming, and all very excited.

Remember to bring food for the potluck on Friday night.

The weather here has been unseasonably cool, not good for crabs...but my local contacts tell me we will have crabs...

We look forward to seeing everyone.

Cool refers mostly to the water...crabs don't come on if the water is too cool...For us, the temps will probably be seasonal...daytime in the 70''s or 80's. and nights somewhat cooler. Last year Friday was rainy, blowing, cool, and then we got a blast of a heat wave...who can tell.

Bring raingear...our get togethers for dinner are outside...limited tent space...

But we will have great talk, music, Terry's red hots, and his wine, and the company of more than 60 C.dory people...what could be better?

Word is that we may have a "senior C dory " exec joining us too!!

John A Groves, manager at Lankford, informs me that no one will have to be on a mooring, all will be either in slips or a few rafted to another boat...
Good news...with 34 boats on the way!

A word to those who will be trailering in from the West and crossing the Chesapeake Bay Bridge at Annapolis: Friday beach traffic makes the crossing a long wait if you are arriving at the bridge any later than 3pm...sometimes the wait can be quite long...try to cross early if possible.

more later.

On the good news side of the crab equation, I know some folks who have already been catching large ones above Chestertown - it's very early for them to be that far up river. We had a half-bushel of steamed crabs last weekend, and they were terrific. Will keep our fingers crossed for some fat ones!!

Echo Tom's caution about Bay Bridge back-ups on Friday afternoon. The earlier you can cross, the better.

Last call for t-shirts! If you HAVE NOT yet ordered, please let me know how many and what sizes ASAP (and please copy Charlie/Captain's Choice, our keeper of the lists).

John, when you get another order, let me know and I'll tell you right away if it's a duplicate.

Last Total I had, which I think I sent to you was:

Tshirt Total
XXL 2
XL 17
L 16
M 12
S 6

Total 53

Charlie

Thanks, Charlie - will do. We'll finalize the order on Monday, so if anyone needs to add to the order, please let me know before Monday morning.

I trust I am one of those two XXLs!

Pat, you certainly are! If you don't use it for a t-shirt, it'd make a nifty cover for a small sports car!!

John on Lizzie Ann, Luna Pearl (Doug and Tonie) would like some T-shirts too. Please add an XL and a M and three Smalls to your order if it's not too late!

In addition, for all, have updated the gathering list in the documents section of the site HERE

To that documents section, I have also added the directions to the Marina (by land), to the Ramp, and to Toy's Outdoor Store, where, If you're going to use the Ramp, you need to get a permit. They sell three day permits for just a few bucks more than a one day one, I'd recommend that if you're not going to haul again the same day.

If you have trouble seeing either one of those documents, e-mail me and I'll either mail you a hard copy or send it along by e-mail to you. Have already sent three hard copies of the attendance list to folks who couldn't download that.

terraplane:

Last year, West Marine - Richmond contributed several first aid kits to the cause. This year, it will be one of the new Nicro Day/Night Plus Solar Vents, 4 inch model #7868508) with white plastic cover which comes close to a color match with the C-Dory roof. These are now coming with an on-off switch, green water closure from inside the cabin, and insect screen, per page 461 of the 2006 catalog. I've installed one on Alma's Only, and really like it.

We'll leave it up to you folks to make plans for a drawing, or whatever.

Plans have changed. I will be at Lankford Bay Marina but my boat will still be in North Carolina.

Hopefully I will still be able to look at some C-Dorys to get ideas on electronics.

Just don't shoot when you see someone approaching from the dock!

Oh, I called and cancelled my slip reservation yesterday (Saturday) at the marina, so there may be an open slip if you call them soon.

Thanks John. Good work! Yes things do appear to be "on track". I will finish the nametags this week, they're about 90% done now. I may mail them to Tom at the end of the week so that they're there ahead of us, I won't get there until about 3 or so on Friday.

Tom, sent nametags off via Priority Mail today, you should have them in plenty of time. The only one not there is yours, that I sent earlier. If you've lost it (not impossible), let me know and I'll bring one with me. I made about 10 blank ones too for late signers. I'll make them if I get the info before I leave.

Hard copies of T-Shirt lists and the entire signup lists were in there too.

Enjoy.

charlie

Captains Choice.... Charley, will you be bringing extra copies of the attendence list to the "Gathering"? I was able to see/read it on line, but couldn't print it.

"The Fran Sea" is fixing to leave Florida Sunday morining and arrive at Rock Hall Thursday morning. We'll launch and leave the car & trailer at Tom's, (Hope it within walking distance, I'm good for about 4 miles) and then we'll anchor that night in the Corsica River, and then again, maybe we'll just sleep in the boat in Tom's field.... who knows?????? :bat

Valkyrie is leaving Wed. morning, arriving mid-afternoon the same day. I'll be alone and would like to know if anyone will be around to help me launch and get my truck to Tom's.

Marcia will be in Louisville and fly into Baltimore Sunday AM and I will cross the Bay and pick her up by boat and then we will cruise until Friday.

We'll be bringing our inflatable. Will current and tides necessitate the need for an outboard?

Also, the trip from Lankford to the Inner Harbor is about 2-3 hours, I believe. Is that about right?

I plan on staying at the marina Wed. night and then joining the gang in the Corsica River Thursday night.

Looking forward to seeing everyone,

Nick
