06/02 - 06/04 - Lankford Bay Marina, Eastern Shore

Hello all.

Roger, the field is ready, and it is a short hike to the launch area..about one mile..but we should have volunteers at the ready to help shuttle.

Nick, same for you..

To those parking on my field. ...try to line up the vehicles, trailers so room is left for others.

Last reminders from John A at Lankford Marina...
l.All boats are charged 1.75 a foot, including those few rafted off other boats.
2.A few boats are two to a slip..end to end..long power cord needed for one of the boats
3.Swimming pool keys..$20 deposit.
4.PAY at time of arrival. If late, do it first thing on saturday morning.
5.ABSOLUTELY no changing of slip locations..chaos will reign if you do.
6.Call on Channel 16 when arriving.

We will have a table set up near the office so you can get info, name tags, etc.

We have had a few cancellations, but still hovering around 31 boats i think.

My home telephone is 410 639 7943 . Call if you run into difficulty. Leave a message and say it very clearly.

Look forward to seeing all of you.

Tom,

We have a non-C-Dory that we are thinking about replacing with a C-Dory 25. Would it be possible to crash your party to see some C-Dorys in use (have admired them for many years at boat shows), and talk to some owners?

Ralph

Ralph, no problem at all. We always have a couple of folks that just drop in. You'll be able to see lots of 25's and 22's and even a 16. Don't think we've got a Tomcat coming this year but you can never tell.

See you there.

Charlie

Charlie and NE Gang: Sadly, there will not be an 18 Angler either. Too much retro work to get C-Byrd back to mint condition and allowable travel time to get up there. I will for sure be with you guys in spirit...and here on the site in a virtual way. My loss for sure.

Does anyone know how they are assigning slips--first in or already designated??
also could someone summerize the basics for the newbies:

covered dish get together fri night right?
shirts are $15?
anything else ?

thanx

Cpt Vic, Tom Terraplane will have to answer on the food question but I wouldn't worry too much about it. The slips have been assigned, just call on 16 and they'll switch you to 68 or 72 and give you where you need to go. It's easy.

Shirts are what they cost them, it was $12 or $15 last year. Had Red Fox on the front....!!

Getting ready to roll here, pulled Capt's Choice out today to wash the bottom, need to do some maintenance this week, my Stbd engine still isn't running full throttle for some reason. It's good to go though!

See you soon...

No Joe, I haven't. Put new water separators on both engines, they run from separate tanks. All I can figure out is that the gearing on Bill and El's old 40Hp was different from my 45 and the engine won't turn the prop I was using fast enough. Still will go through changing spark plugs however and switching the fuel source to the other tank. The engine idles well and seems to run smooth until it gets to the top end where it just maxes out at 4600.

The tach is on the upper end which I didn't change so it's reading the correct rpm I'm sure. The only thing I changed was the lower unit, including gears, etc. I could go through and put the old gears in the new lower housing I suppose but that's a lot of work to do if I'm not sure that that is the problem. I cant find any specs on what the gears might be in the variouos mid size Hondas. The 35-45 was made until 1995 when they switched to 40-50. They all have interchangable parts, the HP change must be in the powerhead somewhere.

Any ideas you have would be welcome.

Charlie

Charlie-

Every Honda brochure I have, going back to 2001, only shows the 40 and 50 hp motors,. both with a 2.09:1 gear ratio. This would work out to 23 teeth on the forward and reverse gears being driven by 11 teeth on the drive gear. (23/11= 2.09)

One way to check it out would be to talk to either a very experienced Honda mechanic, or another would be to contact a technical rep from the Honda U.S. importer.

You could also check it out yourself manually without having to disassemble the lower ends from the motors or dig inside the gearcase.

Take the motor covers off and mark the props with one blade dead center upright. Mark the flywheels in a reference position dead aft. Turn the flywheels until the prop mark makes one revolution and note how many times the flywheel rotates. Should be 2.09 times or two times plus about 30 degrees (32.4), if they both have that ratio gearcase. Would at least confirm or eliminate that possibility!

Joe.

As posted previously I will not be able to bring my C-Dory this year. It is still at the dealer's in North Carolina.

My son & I are planning to drive down anyway in anticipation of meeting you folks and hopefully looking at some C-Dorys.

We plan to stay overnight, but before I can make reservations at a motel I need to know... Would it be better to arrive on Friday and leave Saturday afternoon, or would it be better to arrive Saturday and head home on Sunday?

Any suggestions on motels?

I would appreciate any input, especially from those who were there last year.

Thanks!

Al

Al,

We were boatless last year and stayed for the entire weekend and had a great time.

We stayed at a nice B&B, but I don't remember the name. Google motels in Rock Hall and you'll have some options.

My wife won't fly into Baltimore until Sunday AM, so if you want a ride on Valkyrie, you've got it.

People will be more than helpful and love to show off and share their boats.

Al, here's the rough schedule, so you can figure out which will work best.

On Friday, folks will trickle in throughout the afternoon, and there will be a pot-luck and party that evening. It was great fun last year.

On Saturday, some boats will probably stick around the marina, while others take off and visit Chestertown, Baltimore's Inner Harbor, or other spots. I'm sure that you and your son could hitch a ride on one of those without any trouble, as was the case with some boatless C-brats last year. The schedule for those excursions is completely flexible. Saturday evening there is a crab feast, which was terrific last year - there probably will be a few more people there on Sat. evening than on Friday.

On Sunday, folks will start leaving in late morning/noon, so there won't be as much time for boat hopping.

If you can only stay one night, it's hard to tell you which one would be best. I'd probably opt for Saturday night, provided I could get there early enough in the day to do some visiting.

As far as motels are concerned, there's only good one in the area - that's the Comfort Suites in Chestertown (410-810-0555; http://chestertown.com/comfortsuites/). However, there are also a lot of good B&Bs. You can find links to these at http://www.kentcounty.com/lodging/ and at http://www.rockhallmd.com/rhlodge/rhlodge.htm. I haven't stayed in any of them, as we live in Chestertown, but have heard good things about Brampton and Lauretum, in particular - also Huntingfield Creek. None are too far from the marina, although Huntingfield is probably the closest of the three. Even closer, however, ar the B&Bs in Rock Hall - there are a bunch listed on the Rock Hall page above.

Hope this helps - let me know if you have questions.

Pat and Pat (Byrdman), I've got priority mail envelopes ready to go for your t-shirt orders and will mail them this weekend. You will have them shortly, we'll miss both of you.

Charlie and Sally,
Judie and I are ready to shove off from the Lower Machodoc, thursday around 1300 hrs. Will be linking up with Gary Palsgrove in "C-Rapture" near Ragged Pt, and make the 4 hr voyage to Little Choptank where we'll anchor somewhere in Hudson's creek for the night. Will reach Lankford Marina Friday PM. We'll be monitoring vhf 16, 09 and 71. Bon Voyage to all ! Wayne and Judie in "Passages."

To all Chesapeake Attendees,

Becky and I send our best to
all of you guys at Langford Creek. Boy do we wish we could join you all again this year, but circumstances prevent us from making the trip. Enjoy the Company, Crabs and C-Dorys. And special howdies go out to Nick and Marcia on Valkyrie, Dave on Alma's Only, Charlie and Sally on Captains Choice, Roger and Fran on FranSea, Terry on The Last Dance, Rich on Don Quixote, John and Liz on Lizzie Ann, and of course the Big Kahuna, Terraplane Tom on Sally's Sister. We'll see you next year!!! Rick and Carol from Maine will represent New England well I'm sure. Just don't let Rick too near all those yummy Crabs with an empty plate!

Hope to seen some of you on the Erie this September.
