06/12 - 06/14 - Langley, WA, Cruise

Langley 2003 was in September. We got our CD22 in February 2003, so we don't show up in the pix for a couple of years after that first one!

Roger's fresh corn, those amazing steamed mussels - it doesn't get much better than that. We will always have great memories of our first visit to Langley!

Yes, I could take the reins on this one. I think spearheading a gig every eight years, while an immense burden, is a good thing. People should know, though, that I love power and I'm an unapologetic control-freak.

Soon I'll be assigning tasks to all participants. Here's your first: Does that date, what did I suggest earlier, June 12-14?, work for a majority of Brats?

Brock,

Since we live just up the road from Langley we can offer to do some of the leg work for you. Wish I could take on the whole thing but my time is not (yet) my own.
Can't disagree with the date as it's my birthday. :cake

I left a message with Harbormaster Rick Brewer about our June 12-14 intentions, provided that date works for folks. Jump in with opinions. And I'm thinking maybe, say, 13 boats.

I'll call Rick again Monday.

Well with a cruise director like Brock, I have to show up. I'll see if the admiral is interested and willing but for now count me (us?) in. If I recall, there's ice cream not too far away and that may help sell the deal. The pictures of the mussels look so good, I may have to bring some so I can create my special smoked tomato mussel appetizer.

That's groovy news that you likely can come, Roger. Let's go up town and pig out on ice cream, then scream, for more ice cream. It worked as a kid, and by gawd it should work as a delayed adolescent.

Let's see if we can net a few more Rogers, maybe a fireman, a scooter pilot, a sleepy guy, a couple beer boys, a musician, our buds in 16's and 19's and all our other warm and usually wonderful water mates.

A :cat gig! Hard to pass that up. Hopefully my jury duty will be completed. (good excuse to abdicate any assignments handed out by the cruise director).

Robbi

On voire dire, just day something like "The police never arrest somebody who isn't guilty. This guy will have a hard time convinging me he is innocent" and your jury duty should be short, so you can go boating!

This weekend, it turns out, is Austin's graduation weekend at Mount Si High School. Since he has been going to BCC the last year, and has been accepted at Fairhaven College (yay!), he says he is not real excited about walking. But damn, Mom and Dad need to see him walk, your last kid's graduation from high school is a big deal.

OR just tell them you'll make an excellent juror because you can spot a guilty person like that (snap your fingers here)!

This is United States District Court. I think I will behave myself. Actually, I find the process of voire dire quite fascinating. And, how could I pass up the $$, and free WiFi and cookies.

Robbi

OK, here's the new plan. Graduation is Friday night. Instead of cruising Daydream down from Bellingham on Friday, we'' cruise Crabby Lou over from Everett on Saturday morning. Oh boy oh boy oh boy! Another night on the 16!

Hey Brock

We have a bouy in the harbor there also that we could utilize for overflow rafting if the marina fills. Also the possibility of a second bouy in the harbor available... If I can find the phone number I need.

Be aware though if there are Low Tides most of the harbour goes dry with Only the entrance and exit passage for the Marina staying wet. The Bouy's do go dry to a sandy bottom on the low tides.

Brock Since I proposed this, can't manage it, I will be more then happy to supply logistics support. And a pick up truck bed to carry anything that needs to go by land instead of sea,... Such as the BBQ I am planning to haul up there.

We will have a private beach property available for BBQing, pot latch, etc. 100 yds from the Marina with a Sandy beach.

Since my time is also not mine, I am PLANNING on being in attendence, but with life who knows.

Triehl27, thanks a bunch! I'm not sure I know you, but I know I like you. Your information and logistical support is much appreciated.

Robbi, neither Beer Guy has ever steered me off course. Follow his wise, free! legal advice, and I can begin assigning you your tasks. Pat, I gotta like that commitment.

Quick Langley update. Spoke to Harbormaster Rick Brewer, who was very helpful and accommodating. Nice man. I said about a dozen C-Dorys will arrive that weekend, but depending on the weather we could see several more. Either way, no problem, as he'll mark off dock space for our group and we'll all fit. No reservations required.

It turns out, however, that the Port of Langley just this year has implemented strict new behavioral codes, which I'll explain later, and an inflexible directive stipulating all blue boats will receive preferential treatment. Prizes, too. A rigid bureaucracy steamrolled my pleas to please consider the needs of the chromatically challenged. I'll continue to work on everyone's behalf.

Hey Brock,

Yes I heard about these strict new codes, but as I read them you had to have a Blue boat (Painted or permanently attached blue fixtures), at least 16' in length, with at LEAST 53hp total or better, no exceptions... To gain this preferential treatment.

I believe that is what is in the BiLaws. You wouldn't be misquoting them looking to slide in on the preferential treatment would you? I mean for a cruise director... that's low, next you'll point out that there is also a fresh seafood, clam and mussel tariff that must be collected by the cruise director after said items are BBQ'd and that the Cruise director is then entitled to dispose of said collected cooked tender morsels in any fashion he sees fit...

Looking forward to this gathering.

Hey anyone know what the tides are supposed to be over that weekend?
