07/31 - 08/02 - Nanaimo, British Columbia

Just signed up and made reservations for this get together! Stacy and I are looking forward to seeing everyone in Nanaimo and hopefully seeing some folks in the Gulf Islands during the previous week.

We are going to miss most of the Bellingham CBGT because Stacy will be out of town, but we do plan on towing the boat to Bellingham on the Sunday of the CBGT and then launching for the Gulf Islands.

For those that know us... yes I did say "towing" to Bellingham. We just purchased a Nissan Frontier after looking through a lot of posts in the archives on tow vehicles and having a few discussion with Peter( Jazzmanic). So far, I am very happy with the decision.

Welcome Jan, great to hear you're coming. We are going to have a sizable group show up. Have you called Tabitha to reserve your space at the dock ok?

The Crow and Gate is a real old time English pub set on a really nice property outside of the city limits. I like it there also. However the Dinghy Dock pub is floating right in the harbour and is unique in Canada for that reason, and we also have the Lighthouse Bistro in the marina and it is an awesome pub.

One thing Nanaimo has in abundance is great pubs and restaurants.

Looking forward to seeing everybody.

Reservation made. We are planning on being at Bellingham the weekend before and then spending the week going to Nanaimo. Anyone with like plans or ideas for the week let me know.

Well darn! We'll probably still be on the other side of the continent when this one goes off. George thanks for taking the intiative and getting a Canadian gathering going. If we were there we'd be in like Flynn. Everyone attending be sure to hoist one for us. Like so many have mentioned Nanaimo is a neat place and Newcastle Island is a wonderful park with many trails to hike.
Enjoy

Some where near the Finger Lakes New York.

Roger, Ron and Anne, this gathering is getting close fast! Almost mid June already and it is beautiful here. I went for a burn around the bay last week and stopped at Newcastle...twice. Once at the dock and once at a little cove on the West end. One of the neatest things I enjoy about the boat is dropping the hook in 4 feet of water and backing in till I can toss a stern hook on the beach and then step off into a foot of water. Shell beach and clear water with eagles looking down. We'll hoist one for you and Anne on Meander. George :smiled

Wow it's Canada Day July 1st already! Getting close to our gathering at month end. I trust everyone has moorage reserved. I am thinking of making name tags for each boat with space to write in who's aboard. Or I can get fancy and if you know who is coming I can have my team (ha) make up nametags with your names included and your critters also.
It is sunny and warm here with a lot more forecast. Hope to see you all here and if anyone else wants to come get ahold of the port Authoruity and reserve a spot. It is a busy long weekend in Canada.

It is Fast approaching for month end! I've visited the Port and they are ready for us, space is reserved for several more boats.
If you are coming to this event and have reserved moorage, I'd ask you to double check your reservation and if you need power or not as this will be a big weekend in BC. We don't want anyone disappointed with a lost reservation etc. Please contact Tabitha at 250-753-4146 or at info@npa.ca to confirm. When you are on approach to Nanaimo the Harbour is the main one downtown where the float planes tie up and next to the Gabriola ferry landing. Contact the Port Authority on vhf channel 67 and they will direct you to our space. Be sure you let them know you are part of the C-Dory group. Very likely we will be berthed in front of the Cameron Island condos as this is where groups tie up. It is a fantastic spot to tie up. I'll send more info shortly. George

Just made a reservation for our boat, Wood Duck. Was told the harbor will be very busy during our gathering. Don't wait, get your reservation in. See you all in Bellingham & Nanaimo.

Hello Nainamo folks,
We are planning to travel from Anacortes on Wedn afternoon, July 29 or Thursday morning July 30 to Nainamo. Is anyone else in the vicinity at the same time travelling that direction? We would love to tag along with someone who knows the area better that we do. Does anyone have a suggestion of the best route? Thanks for your help.

Roger
Glad to hear you & Cheryl are going to make it to Nanaimo. We should be around Ladysmith or Pirates Cove about the time you pass thru. Give us a call on channel 68. Hope we can connect.

Hi Roger and Cheryl fantastic to hear you can make it. Have you got a hold of the Port if you want moorage? Make sure you reserve as space will be out soon, that anchorage is about 1/4 mile away and it fills up big time too. You should see it today we've had NW winds of 15 to 25 for several days now.
Had Madi's ' Bunk out Monday for 4 ft moderate sea 20 knot breeze sleigh ride down the outside of Newcastle Island. Nice ride at 10 knots and surges to 14 in surfs.
See you all soon, George :thup

ghone,

There is a chance that we will be able to make it a driving trip. It's that work thing, so we are going to try and show up around the docks but staying off site in a motel. Still remains to be nailed into concrete though, as there are several variables that are still out.

Hope to see you all there,

Harvey

I understand Patty let you know that that fits our general time frame, and you can hook up with us if you like Thursday morning somewhere around Bellingham. If you are real nice, I may even let you BBQ on our handy-dandy COBB GRILL - and now I don't have to wear my dang potato pin!!!!

I may have to cancel our reservations for this week-end. I may have a job offering at a charter company and they want me to start immediately. Going in to interview this morning.

Hi,

Leroy and I (Shirley) will be travelling up from Victoria. I just got on the ball and reserved moorage this morning. I graduated from high school in Nanaimo....so am really looking forward to visiting my old home town. We are planning on taking two days coming and going...just for fun. We are new to cruising and have lots to learn. Look forward to seeing you all. On the Crow and Gate vs. Dingy Dock.....I'm for the Dingy Dock. Will be going there for snack in any event!

Shirley (Mamalena)

Thanks for the invite....we're going to put in at Anacortes about noon on Wedn and if tide/wind looks good head across to Sidney, or at least Friday Harbor. We'll look for you along the way on Thursday and Friday. And if that doesn't work, see you in Nainamo on Friday.

Roger is loaded up with up with potato pins.
