Hi Tracy... Carol and I will give you a call as we near Cameron. We are coming through about the same time you folks will be leaving. Is there such a thing as a Dory Convoy (on land)?

Well, my official NVDC USCG documentation arrived today, and I am extremely excited about getting ANTIBODY in the drink!

However, I hate to say this, but this sub-tropical cyclone is going nowhere and from all looks of things is not going to move out until at least tomorrow late afternoon or evening. Seas are expected to be 6'-9', many tornadoes expected in the area throughout tonight and possibly throughout the day tomorrow. You only need to look at NOAA and the RADAR imagery to see this thing isn't moving, and bringing tons of water in from the ocean on the bad side of the cylone e.g. Neuse River northward. This is no north easter, this is a stalled out subtropical cyclone - reminds me of Ophelia - and moving at a miserable 10mph NWxNNW. Winds predicted between 15-25kts.

And, with Kyle right behind it. ARGH!

Stay dry....be safe....they're predicting flooding up through tomorrow evening.

Looks the water level has really dropped down this afternoon in Oriental to me. This came from the Oriental weather site..

COASTAL FLOOD WARNING IN EFFECT UNTIL 8 PM EDT THIS EVENING ...WIND ADVISORY IN EFFECT UNTIL 6 PM EDT THIS AFTERNOON...
Tonight...Showers with a slight chance of thunderstorms. Windy. Lows in the upper 60s. Northeast winds 25 to 35 mph...Becoming east 15 to 20 mph. Chance of rain 90 percent.

Friday...Showers likely with a slight chance of thunderstorms. Highs around 80. Southeast winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of rain 70 percent.

Friday Night...Mostly cloudy with a 30 percent chance of showers. Lows in the middle 60s. Southeast winds around 10 mph in the evening... Becoming light and variable.

Saturday...Partly sunny with a 20 percent chance of showers. Highs in the middle 80s. Light and variable winds...Becoming south around 10 mph in the afternoon.

Saturday Night...Mostly cloudy with a 20 percent chance of showers. Lows in the lower 60s. Southwest winds around 10 mph.

Sunday...Partly sunny. Highs in the middle 80s.

You're in a very unique zone. I'd prefer to trust the NOAA buoy, pressure and satellite data. I want to be in the water, but I don't want to get pounded either.

I make my decisions on boating between Hatteras and Cape Lookout based upon this site only (and because the NOAA station is less than one mile from our house). Use your own judgement. Inside the sound tucked into Oriental you'll fair better than outside of the Neuse on the coast.

Keep your eye on it. If it turns any further N than W, it will get much worse.

Here's the latest GOES of the Neuse River - note the demarcation between the innner bands and the outer bands. Just use good judgement is all I'm offering.

Here's the H20 vapor loop. The Neuse is dead between the two H20 vapor zones of the cyclone.

Hey, good luck with the gathering...rain or shine, with the people you have coming, it will be a success. Sometimes, sitting in the rain, with a cold something, great food awaiting, and a warm and dry C Dory bunk...can be better than anything.

Here in Rock Hall we are going to get the big wind and rain on Saturday...AND...that is the day of our 11th annual Rock Hall Fallfest...usual attendance is about 6,000 people, 18 bands, 60 craftspersons, 11 food vendors, boat displays, eetc....and it looks like we will have steady rain...We don't cancel...never..it goes on...so we will think of you and you think of us...I plan to have some fun.

terraplane..(tom) and all the Rock Hall gathering crowd.

I am about 5 miles West of Mobile East Marine at a Friends house anchored in his yard. Went down to the boat launch about 6:15 this evening, the water was about 1' or 1 1/2' below the parking lot. It has been raining hard but the wind seemed to be dying down here, about at 9:30.
Hope to see you all tomorrow, drive safe
Jim

Here in Hanpstead we got hammered pretty good late FRI afternoon and well into the night. Still 20+ mph winds in gusts. Due to the storm we have some incomplete preparations and stuff to check on. Our plans are to drive up boatless tomorrow for the day. Disappointing, but we we are confident of a good time anyway and look forward to seeing everybody. Be safe! Just thought folks might like to see the info on Town Dock home page this AM:
"Friday September 26, 2008
8:50a The “almost a tropical storm” has passed and is now inland. It did drop .69 inches of rain overnight. This morning Oriental has closer to normal water levels (still a bit high) and little wind at all. A 50% chance of showers today, but just 20% for Saturday & Sunday in the Oriental NC forecast. Just modest winds from the south in the marine weather outlook."

Nobody showing on the Harbor Cam this AM, oughta see some C-Dory activity soon I'd think, when new arrivals get exploring a bit.

Here at Oriental Sun came out this evening got hot at one time, had a great meal should have left the last plate of deserts off.
It looks like it cleared out just in time to start everything
Come on down

Tracy/Carrie et al,

I took a fair number of pictures on Friday evening. I know others have many more pictures. Where do you want to post pictures of the NC Gathering? I'm not sure if there is a repository specifically for C-Brat Gathering pictures and I'm curious as to how you'd like to accomodate folks posting pictures from the NC Gathering. It might be nice if they were centrally located rather than randomly displayed among all the boat sites. Suggestions?

Norm

LOL I will ask Tyboo if he can set us up a NC Gathering Photo album so we can all add photos. I too have a few keeper photos I'd like to share. Take care all..Tracy

We're home!!!!

Huge thanks to Tracy, Carrie, Gene, Larry and anyone else who helped put this past weekend together! Carol and I had what was, no doubt, the best getaway we've had in a few years (with so many thoughts of so many more now!). Great location; great weather; great boats; great people.

Larry and Jo... glad you found you camera!

Can't wait to see everyone's pix. Take care all.
