10/20 - 10/22 - Gulf Coast Gathering

Marc, Thanks for the offer.... we'll have our car, and will give you a call when we get there to find out details where all the activities will take place.

The wife and I are seriously considering the purchase of a C Dory, and this sounds like a perfect opportunity to check out the boats! Will Wefings have rentals available? We're long time "boaters" but new to this type of boat, and we'd be very interested in renting a 22 or 25 cruiser during this gathering!

Snal/Larry & Jo....

Come on down. There looks to be a great mix of C-Dory boats signed up. Today, as far as I know, Wefing's does not have rentals. The CD25 pretty much are sold as they arrive, before they arrive, or..just after they arrive. A great trailereable economical cruiser for sure.

Wefing's does accept C-Dory trade in from time to time, but, they too go very fast. Bottom line is that C-Dory boats are still very few in total numbers down on our SE corner....but, with the help of the new numbers coming out of the plant in Auburn WA, and the participation in the boat shows in Atlanta, GA, Pensacola FL, and Miami....the numbers for sure will grow.

But, if you have the time, feel sure that more than likely any of the C-Dory owners who show up with our boats will be glad to let you abourd. Any boat looks/feels good on the showroom...but, get around the owners, listen to the good, the not so good, what we love, what we would like to do a little differant, how we use them at one of our gatherings. I know for a fact that there will be a CD18, CD22s (possibley both cruisers and anglers), CD25s, TC255s there. A point often missed by those looking thru the slicks in magazines at floor plans....is the fact that you pretty much have a one level floor on the C-Dory boats. Not a lot of stepping up/down and over things.

Know for a fact that there are hotel rooms in the real close area of our on water gathering spot, and many of us will for sure help you around. ....and... the eating and festivitations :beer :cake :hug :teeth :hug2 :smiled ...(my word..)... are always a blast.

Not sure today if I will be coming in from TN or AL...but, I will be showing up on Wednesday as things are today.

WOW.... looks like the mix of boat in attendance just got better! Take a look at the below posting...and, if I am not mistaking... I think Wefings still has an R21 too. This could actually end up being a C-Dory water boat showing extraviganza!!!! with fun and foods to boot!! Oh...what a hoot!! Yall come on down from near and far....we'll catch ya at the ramp, the dock, or sand bar...

Byrdman....getting a bit excited about this gig.

Hey Fellow C-Dory Loving Family!!!

Well, we are about 5 or 6 weeks out from our 1st Annual Gulf Coast C-Dory Owners Gathering….and it is looking to be a blast…with several types/sizes of C-Dory boat represented. Ya gotta love it. To date, we have 14 hulls signed up. There is some planning and logistical work that needs to take place to make this a good time…or …at least make sure we have plenty to eat, drink, places to tie up, hotel rooms to stay in..places to store tow vehicles….and any particular needs that might need to be addresses and/or attempted to be accommodated. So.. I will ask you to answer a few questions for me…and I will start consolidating the information, and pass it out via emails as I build an individual email group for the gathering.

I will be living in Clarksville, TN at that time. I plan to pick up a west coast C-Dory friend at the Nashville airport on Tuesday, Oct 17th. I may also bring one of my nephews who has helped around the BBQ joints to assist in the BBQ pit and meals. So, I today have a head count of 3 folks including myself.

My route will be departing either Clarksville or Nashville on the morning of 18th at around either 630am…or…waiting till about 9am as to allow the poor folks that have to go to work in the Nashville area that morning free access to all the traffic jams, horn honking, finger waving that goes on each morning in a town the size of Nashville. We have about 4 hulls that might or could pass thru Nashville enroute to the gulf coast. We have a family restaurant called Scoreboard Bar and Grill with a very large paved, well lighted parking lot, that we can circle the tow vehicles and vessels, and even get some local security if we prefer staying in the hotel(s) on the property. Yall let me know what you want here.

During the April 05 Nashville Gathering, many of us enjoyed a catered dinner at the Scoreboard followed by a private shuttle to and from the Grand Ole Opry that evening. Not even sure if they do the Opry on Tuesdays…but will check if we have interest.

So, working on good head counts, travel plans if you want to join up with folks enroute, departure days… and if you do or do not plan to stay in the area prior to or after the gathering weekend. That will get us started.

If you use Eastpoint FL in Yahoo search for hotels/motels, you will be in the right area. I have stayed at the Rancho Inn…which is privately owned, must have weekend reservations far in advance…if we could get them now, and then there is the Gibson Hotel which is a real neat place, a bit pricier…but, has a lot of history. The Rancho is very reasonably priced for a hotel that close to the gulf, but do not expect the Hilton, or that little piece of chocolate on your pillow.. but it is very well cleaned, and very very secure for your properties. Boats are always parked there on the weekends. I think there is also a Best Western, but I do not know the owners there, and have never stayed there. I can recommend either the Gibson or the Rancho with no problems.

Send me your plans, your head counts on how many with be with you, and any special needs.

10/20 -10/22 Gulf Coast Gathering is only 37 days away. You can count us 2 folks and 1 C-Dory. We are looking forward to an on the water gathering with experienced boaters. Our current plans (pending storage for our truck and trailer) are to launch at Gulf Shores AL on Sunday, 10/15/06 and arrive via the ICW on Thursday 10/19/06. We will anchor out most of the time but if there is a central lodging location with safe docks we may want to book for Thursday 10/19/06 and Friday 10/20/06.

We would like to cruise in with other more experienced C-Dory owners along the ICW.

PS Byrdman let us know if there is anything we can help with like ice, drinks. chips, etc, and still stay buoyant. We are eager to get this Gulf Coast Gathering a cursing.

A couple of questions have come up. Does John have facilities to allow C Dory owners who do not have showers ( ie 16, 19 and 22) to shower at his house?

Is there a semi schedule for get togethers like pot luck or common meals beside the Saturday night? For example a pot luck on Friday night, Breakfast on Sat and Sund AM?

From past gatherings we have found that meals like this tend to bring the group together and start new friendships.

We will be comming down the ICW on Wedness day and arriving Thursday night. (some suggested it was faster by the Tom Cat than driving from Pensacola)..!

If anyone wants to stop at our dock and use our facilities before or after the gathering. We live on a Bayou at the head of Perdido Bay, about 12 miles North of the ICW. We have room for several boats--could be more--a pool, RV pad with hookups and extra bedrooms etc. 850 458 2841.

Hey Bob!! Great to hear from you again. Moving is going good on my end.

Here is some....some answers to some questions that have been asked...and the best answer I can give at the time...based on some....some of the folks responses to date.

17 C-Brat Members signed up on the gathering site.
4 arrive on the 18th.
2 arrive on the 19th.
6 arrive on the 20th.
5 have not responded with ARRIVAL DATE INFO....and might be simply waiting till closer to time.

Some have asked if this is just a men's gig.... NO... FOR SURE NOT. 11 MEN have indicated their wives will be with them. Somebody has to be the adult supervision

MEAL PLANS: 10 folks are from out of state....so... for sure there will be BBQ dinner on Saturday night, and I plan on making omelets Saturday and Sunday morning. I feel sure, we will put together some type of meal Friday night...based on arrival times. Plenty of fresh seafood in the area...and feel sure fish, shrimp will be available for grilling/smoking Friday night. Once we have a good idea of how many folks will be there for Friday night dinner, we can pass a hat to help any one person from getting their socks knocked off attempting to feed the group on Friday nights ...and on the morning breakfast(s). If folks do not want to be part of the "gathering meals"....or if they have dietary restrictions...all is well and good...they may need to bring what ever is needed...and/or cook it up along with the rest of the stuff...or on their boat and just join in the group for the meal time. There is a very nice outdoor provilan on site at Johns... and FOLKS JUST NEED TO BRING SOME FOLDING BOAT CHAIRS...AND IF YOU HAVE FOLDING BOAT TABLES...THAT WOULD HELP TOO...

We plan to keep it simple, as to make clean ups, and take down REAL EASY and not work folks to death. Several local restruants are available too if folks would prefer that... but we can get in the weeds with that Friday afternoon.....once we know the weather, know who really showed up,,,and what folks want to do. REMAIN FLEXIBLE...HAVE A GOOD TIME.

Yes, there will be porta potty's on site for a bathroom facility.

SHOWERS: Looks like by responses, that about 4 to 5 couples will need showers and will be on 16-22' boats without showers. 4 boats have showers, 1 RV has a shower, and several folks are getting hotel rooms so folks without showers....(AND WE WANT ALL TO SHOWER EACH DAY)... will have no problem getting one of the boat owners with showers to open up the shower for them, or, several of the folks with hotel rooms will open up thier rooms for folks to shower....BUT....FOLKS NEED TO BRING THEIR OWN TOWELS....IF THEY ARE USING OTHER BOATS AND/OR HOTEL ROOMS FOR SHOWERS. I have ZERO problem keeping my room open for shower windows ...

Need to hear from the 5 folks I have no information from to help with the planning..... when will you arrive, how many with you, will you have your boat with you or not????

I appreciate folks having already responded. Moving from one state to another, buying one house in one state, selling one in another state, and putting together a gathering in a 3rd state is not the easiest gig...but...it is for C-Dory loving folks and I love this stuff... If you do not hear from me right away....don't worry... I will get to you.

2-6 October I will more than likely be off the net do to actually packing, shipping, and unloading house hold goods.

THANKS AND LOOKING FORWARD TO IT.

We need addresses of launch site and Johns home so we can find it easy
see you friday Jim and Loree on Duck (jennykatz)

jim and loree will be coming to the gathering on thur night from Naples trailering up then staying at Gibson INN thur.night .then staying on boat fri -sun night see you guys there jim on Duck (jennykatz)

Hey Jim. Do not know the physical address of the boat ramp, or the offical name, but if you are at the Gibson, leave the side road that is perpendicular to the main road that runs infront of the Gibson....towards the base of the bridge and the water. The ramp is kinda under the left (eastern) end of the big ol bridge you see from the Gibson.

Once you launch, on the water, head out into the bay area...(can't miss this...just drive thru the boats...or...down the middle of the creek...not thru the boats)....and when you break out of the creek, turn left back up under that big ol bridge again...and stay to the right side of the bank....and go up river about 3 miles. You will go under a old train bridge that has a swing opening. Go about another 150 yards and on the left bank will be John's house and the site of the gathering. You can not miss it.

We will pick a channel on VHF to monitor, and can have some folks there to help bring your tow vehicle and/or boat around for you. ...as well as helping all other folks.

I will yield to Wefing's for street addresses....and routes to and from Johns by land. I generally just get lost and find it again each time...it is a small town...and those roads look pretty much the same to me.

Marc.... step in here any time ya want....

The Gibson has a group rate for the Gulf Coast Gathering in place [not saying its real cheap , just better than normal] , so if you tell them you are with the Gulf Coast Gathering and Wefings they will know . We intend to have a great time, and look forward to meeting all attendees .
I will post more details as the stuff gets decided and figured out .
