16 cruiser power upgrade turned into a new boat...

Hi again everyone,

Thanks for all the feedback and PMs about my 16. In the end, we decided not to change our motor, since we've been thinking about a 19 next year anyway.

As an aside, I listed my 40 Honda on Craig's List at $4200, and had several full-price buyers in under 24 hours!

I found a 19 down in SoCal, which I know has been mentioned here before (in Laguna Niguel, 2004 19 angler, owner named Ali). I'm in process to buy this boat, and at least in photos, it looks like a nice find. Purchase price will be $22,500 with 100 hours on everything and a just-completed 100-hour service.

Here's the Craig's List ad:

Have any of you seen this boat already? If so, I'd love to hear your thoughts on it. As I said, in pictures it presents really well, but there's nothing like being there in person. Anyone live nearby who could pop over and have a quick look for me?

If all proceeds as planned, I'll be flying down on Saturday, meeting my dad with his truck, and driving back up to Seattle.

I have to laugh a bit, because I bought my 16 in Sacramento, and towed it up to Seattle also. Maybe I should found the "Western Washington C-Dory Rescue" or something. Our motto could be, "Saving C-Dory's From California, One Boat At A Time." :) (I did live in SF for six years, so I'm allowed to harass Californians...)

In keeping with our previous name (Natural Blue), we are looking for a new name related to the character "Dory" from Finding Nemo. So far my first choice is "P. Sherman". All ideas welcome (even those not related to kids' movies), and a really good beer to you if I pick your suggestion. Since the boat is grey, Natural Blue doesn't really fit, even though you all provided me with the means to carry the name forward! Grey Skies? Moody Greys? Hmmm...

Take care and talk soon,

As for a name, how about Blue-C
Charlie

FYI, in looking at "Our C-Dorys" in the page heading above, there are already three C-Dorys named Blue C ....although there appear to be slight variations in how they are presented. :wink

(However, since the prospective new boat is grey that may not work anyhow).

One of the best names I've seen on a boat--my friend's neighbor in Leavenworth on his Hewes (wife named Alice):

Sea Alice: A Four Hour Tour

Ya gotta have some solid self-esteem to name your boat after an ED drug...

The guy across from me at Lake Amador back in about 2001 named his boat

Miss Viagra

His "wife" wasn't really, but she was an Emergency Room Physician at Marin General Hospital on the peninsula of the same name in North San Francisco Bay.

He died of a heart attack about a year into their relationship.

Musta been one of those four hour + sessions they caution you to get emergency medical help about.

I guess she couldn't get him down or didn't want to. (?)

I say it's better to die with your "spirit" up as long as you're gonna go....

Joe. :teeth :thup

There's always "seattle grey". Once had a boat with that color. That is a great looking boat. Should work really well up there.

Yeah, I had thought about "Grey Skies", which is all too appropriate for where we live. Too depressing?

I had to look up Dorian Gray (and I assume dotnmarty's "DorynGray" was reference to the same thing, i.e. the character in the story from Oscar Wilde?

Hmmm...hedonism, selling your soul, debauchery...it all sounds good to me. Maybe I'll have to think about that one.

Does it count if I had to look it up? :)

IMHO, names that you vaguely recognize and make you run to Google for explanation are the most fun! I missed Doryn Grey -- that is classic and ties into C-Dory much better!

Yes, Oscar Wilde, "The Picture of Dorian Grey". Hope the same fate does not befall your boat, though!
