Brats in the Broughtons!

We sure enjoyed our few happy days cruising with C-Cakes and Discovery while in Desolation area together. We are sorry we couldn't continue north to the Broughtons but family obligations tugged us back south.

We're so glad to hear that all goes well with the Broughton Brats - continue with the good weather and great times. We enjoy reading your posts. And what a great area and what good friends to share a 45th. Congrats!

Roger and Janet,

Congratulations and many happy more. (By the way -- did you really get married at 10 years old.) WOW, you are doing well. Keep it up.

Missed you all at the Port Townsend Rowing races, but Dave (Plan C) and I held up the C-Dory tradition, even go a compliment from the rowing crew of the Cross the Atlantic rowing race boat there, "C-Dory, great little, tough, boat, Good things come in small packages."

Sorry the hear about Merv and Kathy getting held up. Sounds like some compensation due from Honda. Won't make up for the disappointment though.

You all stay safe and have a good time doing it.

Thanks again everyone! We're back in Port McNeill tonight after dropping off our friends. Back into the islands tomorrow.

We ran into Allyson from Jennis Bay in the grocery store, shopping for groceries for the Tuesday Cajun Night. She's looking forward to the C-Dory invasion.

Lori Ann is in Alert Bay tonight.

Lots of F/D Dolphins today and a Minke whale.

Dreamer,
You guys try to keep us posted on who's open, or not this summer. We heard Greenway wasn't going to open and a few others were having difficulties of one sort or another. :cry Any word on Kwatsi Bay?
We'll be headed thet way after the 4th of July. :wink

Arrived home 10 pm last night with boat in tow and will be leaving it with a reputable Honda Dealer (EQ) as soon as I have cleaned off all the suicidal bugs that we collected.

Have to admit the recovery trip led to a couple of funny stories:-

Going South from Vancouver airport in a rental car to pick up the truck, the US Customs guy asked what I was doing and when I told him he immidiately said good luck and asked no further questions.

Going North with empty trailer the Canadian Customs guy asked if someone on the ferry stole my boat, then was very sympathetic.

Coming back through Sidney with boat in tow, the traffic director correctly reckoned that there was no way in heck I was going to make the right turn (180) into the parking lot so he send me on a round trip through the streets of Sidney so I could approach from the other direction when he stopped all the traffic and let me in, then told me to take the right hand lane so as not to destroy the low canopy over the Customs post because apparently they tend to get upset about it. I was followed in this venture by an RV from Everett with two guys and a CD-19 who had been fishing in Uclulet. I couldn't get down the right hand lane as there were Red Gnomes buried there (you coud just see the tips of their hats) So we were rescued by a Mountie in black uniform, no hat and a white car who said he would move the Gnomes if we shared our fish with him. So he got the story and passed us on to the US Customs initial inspection who just waved us through.

Final customs inspection in Anacortes, the officer asked if we were going to give him the story about the big one that got away and then was very sypathetic about my somewhat Grumpy attitude after 15 hours of travelling when he heard the story. He was also visibly pleased that I had NOT had any parts replaced in CA.

As for Honda USA vs Honda CA, Les assure me that it can be done but it all depends on the dealer and his willingness to make a couple of phone calls. The guy in Powell River has more work than he could handle and simply was not interested, an attitude confirmed by many people we met around the town.

We had a nice chat with Ron (Meander) on the dock and (apologies Ron) were going to share beverages later in the day but after getting the boat out of the water and making ready for the long haul we were both asleep and as dead as our phone batteries when you called. Figured it would not be good to call you back at 5 am when we were re-shuffling the boat in the parking lot so we could get out of there before the local Salmon Derby fishermen invaded.

Given the great weather in the region for the last few days we probably COULD have motored home on one but it seemed irresponsible to do that. The second motor had fulfilled it's purpose and since we still do not know the nature of the problem there is still the very minor possibility of it happening to the second motor even though it has run for about 4 hours after "the event" so it's likely not a fuel issue. Could still be related to saltwater contamination of the O2 sensor but we will not know until we can get past the main relay cutting out.

When we know the answers I will post them for the grater knowledge of all.

Thanks for all the good wishes. We still had fun and Bella (Da Dawg) met thousands of admirers and some weirdo's around the docks.

Sorry we missed all of the Brats in the Broughtons this time but there will be plenty more events.

Safe home all of you.

Merv & Kathy

Merv,

Glad you made it back OK. Your incredible sense of humor had to help. :hot 100 years from now, we'll never know the difference. :wink

:rose Roger and Janet, good for you!!! :thup

Grumpy, damn. :thdown

Grumpy, just curious, what size motors do you have on your Rosborough?
FWIW if we were to replace our CD 22 the Rosborough would be on the short list.

Harvey,

It already feels like a 100 years ago. I need a vacation!!

Chester,

BF 135's. As per Les's Doctorate on the subject on the Rosborough site it's the middle ground between BF 90's and 150's. Can still comfortably make 9 kts on one engine at 3500 rpm.

Don't ask how fast. Never needed to know.

Cheers,

Merv

Merv & Kathy, Allyson at Jennis Bay sends her regrets. We'll really miss you at Cajun Night. We're docked next to Warren & Lori at Jennis. Nice Pot Luck tonight. Lots of slicing and dicing tomorrow in between checking prawn and crab pots. C-Cakes and Discovery due in tomorrow, hopefully on the 13:10 slack water.

Near 70 deg. today. Could Summer be far behind?

Capn jack,

Greenway Sound is the only closed marina. Tom, the owner, told Barry to feel free to tie up there but to be careful of the slippery docks. Good protection behind the main dock. Enter from Left end facing the dock.

Light rain. Generators running beside the 2 TomCats. 2 Lattes down from the Mukka Express. Life is good!

Happy ending.

Took the boat to EQ this morning and they had the answer before I even got home.

ECM module died. The clicking noise was NOT the start relay but the fuel pump.

Very quick and simple unit to replace and (if you have two engines) a quick check is to swap with the working engine. For anyone making a trip into the real backwoods (which now includes Powell River. Sorry Ron  ) you should get to know where the unit is located and be able to check it out. Bit expensive to carry a spare but even at full price it's a lot less than having to get home, get trailer and haul back to base.

Kudos once again to EQ and superior customer service. :beer :beer :cigar :cake

Merv & Kathy

Thanks Roger, :thup
I'm still stuffing stuff and watching the bootstripe disappear. :smileo
Headed your way on the 9th. :wink
Fuel prices seem to be dropping some what around here....Hope it's catching.

Four C-Dorys at Jennis Bay for Cajun Night. Great Dinner, and company. Pegasus is also here and has met up with a lot of other C-Dorys in the past. He passed on good wishes to everyone.

Jennis Bay is a very laid back marina run by Allison and her two kids. Everyone here is treated like family and Allison makes you feel welcome and is appreciative of your stay. Once again the reduced number of travelers has a big impact on the little marina owners.

We had a great time here. Onward to more adventures!

Finally! Some Sun... After a week of rain, we are all in Sullivan Bay on a Sunny afternoon. Boats are drying out, laundry washed and dryed and everyones disposition has taken a turn for the better.

We've traveled together and separately for the last week, visiting some beautiful anchorages. Tonight, it's time for shore power and resort style living!

Hopefully, we'll see George and Kerrie On soon. We plan on being at Shawl Bay on the 5th then on to Pierre's for his now famous Prime Rib. Lots more to do and less than 2 weeks to go.

Dreamer...Please tell Chris, Debbie and Buddy Hi from Reefmadness. We just received photos of large Salmon and sunshine in Sullivan Bay. Our hearts are in the Broughton's even though we are still in CA. May the sun keep shining on your cruise.

Just an update on the Broughton Brats. After Jennis Bay and Cajun night we went back on the hook for a few nights. Then we spent the 3rd and 4th of July at Sullivan Bay. Parade, dingy races, and a pot luck on the C-Dory dock. We spent last night, the 5th, at Shawl Bay Marina. Small and quaint after the fast pace at Sullivan Bay. This morning we all went back to Echo Bay for the prime rib dinner tonight. George Hone is here, on Kerri On. That makes five C-Dorys. Discovery, Dreamer, Lori Ann, C-Cakes and Kerri On. We will most likely split up in the next few days and go on separate paths. Discovery will stay out until August. Some Brats are coming to Bellingham for the CBGT.

2. Cd 22's and 3 tomcats and 2 dogs and 9 c brats at Echo Bay. Prime rib under the tent at Pierre's. Good friends good company great food. True norrth island weather. Cool moist and pretty. Thank you all for the fellowship. Really enjoyed myself at Echo Bay. Got out this morning to get to mcniell ahead of an advancing front with strong winds. Did some product testing cross Queen Charlotte strait. By 0700 there was 4 foot rough at white islets for a mile or so caused by ebb meeting wind. Then smoothed out to 2 foot modertate to malcolm. The 4 foot rough was done at 9 knots and kerri on just waltzed thru. A couple of things I stowed poorly went on the floor but "oh well". Thanks Scott and team for a rugged little boat. My fall back was providence passage to a hidey hole but only a couple miles of really rough so. No worries. In mcniell to pick up a lady crew member for a few days gentle cruising
