Just to let everyone know, Master Marine will be having our annual "Demo Days" at Cap Sante Marina 3 November, 2007 from 10:00 AM until 2:00 PM (Rain or Shine). We will have a New 2008 Tomcat. New 2008 22' Cruiser and a Skagit Orca and Osprey at the Marina for test rides. Everyone is welcome to look and "Demo Rides" will be available for interested buyers. A phone RSVP would be nice but just showing up is ok too! Hope to see everyone there! Thanks!

Just took the 16 over to Anacortes for a few things and on the way back bumped into "C-Seller" and an accomplice playing in the channel on a new Tomcat and a 25.

They will have one of everything on display at Cap Sante tomorrow.

We are here at Birch Bay, were planning to go out in the 16 today, bought a Mr Heater Buddy last evening, want to test it with the vinyl rear bulkhead (that may not be what you call it) snapped in place. We need to get ready for the Snohomish River on November 18 and Lake Washington on December 15! It is raining a bit here (how unusual - NOT). Yesterday was so nice, we almost decided not to come here but go out on the 25 instead. I suppose a Bellingham launch could get us down to Anacortes easily enough, but no way we could get down there this morning, and Patty probably is not up to that long a cruise in the rain... so enjoy, sorry I will miss hooking up with everyone down at the docks, would love to get a close look at the new boats!

Pat- I have a Mr. Buddy on my 16. I really like it. I have it bungied to the floor just in front of the portapotty. I always keep a window cracked and don't turn it on after I've just topped off one of my 6 gallon tanks. I'm heading out now to go to Kenmore and cruise down to Bellevue to bring Lizzie home. Gotta clean 'er up for the upcoming Snohomish River cruise!

Just finished reading the Mr Buddy manual, the only caution I see is that it says not to use it in a moving vehicle - I assume we foolishly disregard that safety advice, otherwise there wouldn't be much point in having these puppies! It says it runs about 6 hours on the "Lo" setting with a 1 lb gas bottle, it sure is worth a couple of bucks a trip to have some cabin heat in the 16, really looking forward to giving it a good test! If anything, it seems like the 4K - 9K BTU/hr rating is too high for such a small space...

Byrdman has a double buddy heater on the 18 and it worked well when we tried it out last November. it kept the whole cabin and cockpit warm.

Those little bottles are about $2.50 at GI Joes. I don't think I have gotten 6 hrs. out of one, but, pretty close. It's worked fine for us and I like the stability on the deck. Again, keep a window cracked, don't use around spilled gas. I also take the canister off when I leave the boat. I think Joe posted something about this recently. See you at Snohomish.

We carry a buddy heater for a back up to the Wallas and on really cold mornings heading out have used both. This past summer on our Alaska Inland Passage cruise had trouble with the wallas and was glad we had the buddy heater.

They are a radiant type heater and the higher burning temperature in that design reduces the poisoning risk. Anyway so says the manufacture of the radiant heat propane heaters we have in the house, they are totally vent free.

As always common sense and adequate ventilation is a must in there use.

We had a mini-CBGT at Cap Sante today -- Grumpy, Ashley Lynn, and Lori Ann were there to fly the C-Dory flag. Took a ride in an Osprey. Still like my Tom Cat the best!

Evidently we arrived shortly after you left, Patty, David and I went out for a water demo on the TC255 with Jim and Bruce from Master Marine, unfortunately they did not have a full instrumentation package. A nice ride! David and I took turns at the helm, I don't think there is any danger of us deciding to buy one, but I don't know about David! Then we took a tour of our next boat - the Nordic 32, the "cash the house in" boat...

if your going to use a grill or a little buddy heater that uses the small bottles I would recommend getting one of these.

bottle filler

I have been using one for three years and It has paid for it self many times over. I use it to fill bottle for the round bbq on the boat and for the little buddy knock off heater for my drift boat/shop. The best way to get a full bottle is to place the empty bottles in the fridge for a hour first. this way when you go to fill the empty the higer pressure fuel flows to the low pressure cold bottle.

Wow, that filler is pretty cool! It always seemed a waste not to reuse or recycle the little propane bottles. I wonder if after a couple of refills they are more prone to leaking though?

Pat,
I have used one of these devises for years and you are correct, the canisters do need to be replaced after several refills. I found that even placing the canisters in the freezer before use it was hard to get a full canister again, but being a dory owner and excited about economy when ever possible I'm glad I have one.

Dan.

Down in the 30s on the Cumberland again...and was thinking about Roger and our cruise last fall on C-Byrd, and the heater. Then,...this post this morning. Cool. (no pun intended). The refiller does help cut cost, but I too like to cycle the bottles after a few uses... just a warm fuzzy thing I guess.

Sounds like a bunch of good times on the water with friends takig place out/up/over there! Here is to friends on the waters in our boats!! :beer Here Here :beer

Fun meeting you yesterday. Was nice to compare the TC255 with the Osprey in some typical NW "lumps". As expected, completely different boats. If I was going to change back to a Deep V I think I would go back to my old Grady White 25.
It all adds to the experience pool.

Saw David scooting home later as we grabbed a quick lunch and managed not so spend anything at WM.
So it was a good day.

I noticed that on Tom's bottle filler link there is a statement that DOT prohibits transport of refilled bottles. What's that about? Does DOT have one of those cig. boats with 4 250 hp Mercs.?
