C-Dory Sightings

Today at the Warrenton dock I saw Lyle but no Scorpio, and Ray but no Sea Lion. I did see Lynn Marie Tim and Helen O Larry on the proper boats, though. Also saw Chuck of the Heron on the Raven with Dave. Very confusing.

C Dories were well represented on the north shore of Lake Superior recently as we discovered when the MOOSE arrived at Rossport, Ontario. There was a 22' cruiser on a trailer owned by a retired fellow from the Minneapolis area whom we missed meeting by just a day. He left the boat there, planning to return for another cruise later in the season. Then, as we were just leaving the harbor for our return to Thunder Bay, another 22'er was coming in also owned by a fellow from the Minneapolis area who had some property on a nearby island. We exchanged greetings briefly and then were on our way.

C Dories were given the big thumbs up by the men of the north shore who obviously know boats and also Lake Superior. We had all sorts of compliments on the MOOSE by the people we met and she did her self proud on the big lake.

Hi all,

I saw a Classic 22(serial number 039 built in 1982) at the dry storage yard in Channel Islands Harbor, Oxnard, CA today. Its for sale, and looks to be in good shape for its age. The motor is a 1987 70 hp Johnson 2-stroke. The boat sits on an older galvanized trailer.

This is the same model as "Red Fox".

Today as we were driving north on I-5 we pulled up along side a C-Dory and Carol and Jessica were waving at the driver....it was Chris towing the "Luna C".....he probably thought we were LUNA TICS  as he didn't appear to recognize us. So after we got past him, Jessica held up a C-Dory Brochure in the back window for him to see and then I think he figured out who we were.

I was driving North on I-5 just south of Mt Vernon towing the Luna C and this family in a white truck with a firefighter sticker on the window were staring at me. To prove that they were not hostile, they held up a picture of a C-Dory. We were quite relived. I did think to myself that the driver did look like a (C) Reverend.

While cruising in the San Juans and Gulf Islands, met Scamp and shared an evening aboard visiting. Also met Rick's Amigo, as noted by David.

Met the former owners of Puffin, in Telegraph Harbour -- they are now on a Camano 30 (better fit since they have three kids cruising with them). Their Camano is appropriately named, Puffin.

Incidently, we had met Puffin on Lake Yellowstone with their present owners, before meeting the former owners.

Last evening about 6:30 I was headed out of Gig Harbor and I passed a large boat coming in. The boat was about 50 feet long and very impressive. I was a bit surprised when all 5 people on the bridge started waving and giving me multiple thumbs up. :thup I wondered why theses folks in their beautiful boat were so taken by my C-Dory? Well, it is a cool boat, but still I was a bit puzzled. I waved in return and continued on my way. After they had passed, I looked back over my stern and saw mounted on the top deck, in a nice cradle, a 14 foot C-Dory.

Turns out that both boats belongs to the owner of C-Dory Marine! Puzzle solved. Thanks for the wave, and thanks for the great boat.

This morning while towing "Sea Shift" through Anacortes we saw Jeff J. ("Hunky Dory") in his truck waving at us. I recognized him right away and returned the "wave".
We spent the day cruising in the San Juans. Later in the day we saw a 16' Cruiser motoring through Roche Harbor and waved at them.
Then driving home this evening we saw Chris towing "Luna C" towards us on Hwy 20. (Chris, we've got to quit meeting this way....this is the 2nd time in just a few days we've seen you towing "Luna C" around Skagit County).

Agreed! Luna C was heading out to Center Is. for some am float repair (new chains). Back through the fog this morning with the new radar - it is really cool knowing where you are going - a new feeling for me! Time to take the boat to Kent for its first check-up. No signs of Luna C in Skagit or San Juan County for a while.

We took C-Puffin from Des Moines marina to her new home at Twin Bridges today - about a 5 hour trip by water. It was foggy pretty much the whole way so our sight seeing was very limited. The fog lifted in time to see Tyboo hanging out in LaConner on his way to Blakely tomorrow. We also caught a quick glance, through the fog, of a gray 22 Angler doing a little fishing south of Alki point. We got the name (and the Puffin) on our boat when we got up to Twin Bridges so we will be more recognizable now.

Bambina caught and pulled next to her big sister heading south on I-5 last night. She was a blue 22' Angler with a 70 Tohatsu. Their owners waved but had never met.

And this morning I spotted a green 22 Cruiser with single Honda heading south on I-5 through Seattle, just past the Convention Center. It also had a storage container on the cabin top.

It was good to meet up with another C-Dory owner Saturday. We were pleasantly surprised to see "LIZZIE ANN" come up to see us anchored behind Cacaway Island off the Chester River. Knew they were in Chestertown but hadn't had the chance to get up the river. Hope we can rondevous again when we have more time to raft up and chat.

Saw a CLou clone pulling out of Ilwaco yesterday, angler, big radome, could have been a twin. We need to get those folks to join the site so we'll have somebody else to badger about their radome :)
M was passed by some yahoos in a new blue Dodge pulling a 25 footer on her way home from Ilwaco

Spent 10 Days on Lake Powell--May 19 thru 28th. No C Dories.
Poulsbro for the Trawler Fest, June 2 thu 5. There was one C Dory in the Marina--and I had C Pelican at the "trawlers" for the Fest, where I presented a lectue on Medicine at Sea. Several folks came by and said that they had owned C Dories earlier. June 11 thu 16 in the San Juans. Saw One C Dory at the S E end of Orcas Island on a mooring. Left C Pelican in Sequim and will return in Late Sept. Is the gathering still on in Sequim and Shasta? I would like to make both before I head back to Powell in Mid October. Sorry I missed seeing any of the members on this spring's trip.

We've seen two C-Dory's this week. The first CD was Monday morning about 5AM Mount Vernon heading north. We were driving south and all Joe could see was that it looked like a 22' Angler and was being towed by a nice looking pick-up that has a cabover camper. The second C-Dory sighting was tonight up in Blaine. The "Princess C" is parked in the yard at Blaine Marine Repair and appears to be a 25' and is gray. Could be an Oregon registration?

As I speak, I have two extra C-Dories in my yard. Bill & El with the HALCYON and Chris with the RANA VERDE. they will be taking off tomorrow for Eastern BC to cruise the headwaters of the Columbia River. I was hoping to follow them up , but the brakes on my tow rig tell me different.
Have a warped roter that I have to get turned so no go for me.

Since we launch at Blaine frequently, we too have seen the C-Dory in the yard there. I had considered stopping in and offering to sell it on commission for them!

Pat, If that 25CD been there for any length of time I bet they'd be happy to give you a commission. We thought it might be For Sale but the place was closed so couldn't inquire. One of these times we'll have to try that boat launch at Blaine.
