C-Dory Sightings

Took my dad on a cruise on the erie canal and low and behold not 2 hrs. into the trip I saw a 25' c-dory coming the other direction. As it got closer I almost couldn't believe my eyes. It was Minnow with Brady and Nancy on board who we met several years ago down at the Cheasepeake Bay Gathering. Had not seen them in years and it was a great thrill to see them again. Chatted for a few minutes, but brought back great memories of time spent with them years ago.

While launching the Crabby Lou at Blaine this afternoon, we saw an (apparently) unnamed CD16 Angler coming in, I think it was blue trim and for sure rigged for fishing. No name on the boat that we could see, I really don't understand that! No chance to chat, the ramp was just too busy!

I just spent two nights on the anchor in Henry Bay at the North end of Denman Island (4 miles south of Comox). I was ashore when I saw a C-Dory enter the bay, spotted my boat and made a beeline for it. He circled my boat and then saw me waving on the shore. He came over, it was a 1981 22ft Angler with the words FIRE WARDEN in big red letters on the side. Turns out the owner of the boat works for BC Marine Parks Dept, based out of Parksville BC. His job is to cruise the coastline of the marine parks and make sure that fire regulations are being observed. What a great job, cruising around in your C-dory and getting paid for it !

We were headed down to Squalicum to head out and when we reached Roeder avenue here comes Au Kai rolling down the road. Later as we were right behind him as we left the harbor. Later in the day we saw Carrera anchored in Inati bay. Beautiful day today and B'ham bay was ver well behaved.

On my return to Sequim Bay from Mystery Bay late this morning, I saw the familiar C-Dory bow headed slightly towards me. I turned a little more towards it, it turned a little more. It was green with a camper back on. No radio call, just the typical C-Dory reaction. We stopped, starboard to starboard, and visited for a few minutes. Nice to get to see you Dave. PlanC looking pretty spiffy. Glad to hear you had a good time in the Juan's.

Also saw Cluzo, a 22 Cruiser, a Mystery Bay resident, on the dock at the State Park. And back at John Wayne had a fellow stop me to talk C-Dory. He sold a 86 22 Cruiser a while back and is now thinking about a 16. Needs some way to get out and catch some more fish.

We were cruising east on the Erie Canal when we noticed a HUGE C-Dory tied to the new Palmyra dock. Had to pull in and check it out. Turned out to be J.J. Johnson with his REALLY HUGE 08 C-Dory 28 "Pelican". This is hull #1 of only 3 made. Made Fun Patrol look like a 6ft dinghy. I would estimate she has approximately 4 times the volume of a 22 Cruiser. He keeps her at Mid-Lakes marina just above Lock 30 at Macedon.

We again got lucky and stumbled into the 45th Canaltown Days in Palmyra. They had the entire dock marked "off limits" for the weekend for commercial boats giving demo rides. Only 2 showed up (including Pelican), so the kind lady-in-charge invited Fun Patrol to tie up and have....FUN.

We launched at Anchor Marine on Grand Island on 9/11 just after the famous Buffalo Launch Club Antique Boat Show and Races. Stumbled onto that too...GREAT old woodies, 3-cockpit Chris', etc. We plan on about a month on the Canal, returning via the same route... whenever.

Have fun!

I was down at Squalicum Harbor this afternoon and spotted a TC255 named Catting Around from Page AZ. Nice looking boat. This is the second time I have seen it at the harbor.

Pulled the boat out of la conner and trailered to everett to go fish yeaterday about 2pm. Passed Roger as he was coming back. He had 4? silvers in the boat. I picked up a freind at mukilteo and headed out to ship wreak. We boated two nice 8 lbers on a double hook up but that was all. Saw c-otter out there and he had at least two on the boat. Saw about 14 fish caught while we were there. Boat is now at home , let the projects start.

Going over the Rio Vista bridge on the delta tue night about 5pm It was a 22 angler with a white engine didn't see a name ? What a wonderful area to cruise . To bad my cc-23 is 4000 miles away in florida .Hopefully be back in florida on tue 10/2 . Looking forward to applachicola gathering 10/19-10/21 (wefings) Jim

Saw C-Cakes this afternoon headed west bound through the tiny agricultural town of Arvin (just south of Bakersfield, CA). Somewhat of a shock to suddenly see a beautiful C-Dory across from us at a stop light. It looked great. We assume they were headed back from Lake Powell.

By the way, for those of you who love Mexican food, in that little town is a market named Vallarta. It's apparently a chain in Southern California. They stock a wonderful array of items you can't buy in a traditional market, including great handmade tamales. Highly recommended!

While in and around Crystal River Florida last Sunday (10-7-12), we wandered into “The Islands and Dixey Shores” development and saw a 25 CD named “NIBBLER” sitting in the canal/water way in the back of a condo development.

"Rascal" - GREEN TRIM 22' Cornucopia WI. A Lake Superior boat no doubt. Was eating lunch today, and the Gordon Lightfoot classic "Wreck of Edmond Fitzgerald was on radio.

Towing SleepyC home from Portland, OR, this afternoon, I was coming up along Hood Canal and pulled over to let some faster traffic by. A red dually pick-up slowed and pulled over right in front of me. The driver, Tom, got out and came back to my window. He was so excited, he just had to tell someone who would understand. He had just bought his C-Dory, today. And I got a peek. it is a really nice, 86 Classic Angler, with some nice mods (fishing table), and a nice tandem EZ loader. Tom introduced me to his wife Teresa and his brother-in-law, Rod and his wife, who were over to help celebrate the coming home party.

Boat name is "C-Told Ya So". Hope to see them on the sight now that they know about the Brats. Welcome Tom and Teresa.

Just before I left for Portland last week there was a news blurb on about the sinking of the HMS Bounty, and they were showing her in some different ports around the PNW. One of the shots was from Tacoma and there was a C-Dory in the picture. It was a bow on shot so couldn't tell if it was a 22 or 25.

Sorry to hear about the loss of the HMS Bounty and her captain.

Stopped at a small watercraft launch on the north shore of Lake Superior. Low and behold a 22' Angler named Kro's Nest had just pulled out. Chatted with the owner for a little bit.

what is that wheel I see mounted on the side next to the window? A pot puller? Seems like a great use of space.

I spotted Lil' Toot headed east bound on SR532 this morning on my way to work about 7:30.

If I were a betting man, I'd bet you were headed to Camano State park after Blackmouth? I hope you have better luck than we have had lately :D
