False spring

Up here in cold, rainy Seattle, we're experiencing a phenomenon that usually occurs in late January through mid-February. We get a week or so of spring-like sunny weather, I'm talking temps in the 60's(!), making everyone think that spring is right around the corner. Unfortunately, it doesn't last and winter comes back with a vengeance for the next 6-8 weeks or so. I've just learned to enjoy and appreciate it when it does happen.

I thought I'd attach my original thoughts on the matter, posted a couple of years ago, as a reminder that this seems to happen almost every year. Of course, it didn't happen last year (2011). Oh well, that's why we love the PNW, right?

It has been unusually warm here in the Northeast as well. I've used the snow blower once whereas last year I used it several times a week. Last year was in the top ten highest snowfall in history in this area. Some years ago we had a Northeaster on April 1 - I'll keep the snow blower ready to go just in case.

The almond trees are blooming here in Redding and the North Sacramento Valley! :rose :hot

Frost this morning, then 68 degrees this afternoon, and seemed HOT sitting out in the afternoon sun! :smiled

Rain tonight and tomorrow, with snow in the mountains. :tux

Low temperature at the Bogard Rest Stop on Highway 44, at the back side of Lassen Park = 8 degrees F! (Coldest place in the North State.) :smileo

Joe. :teeth :thup

False spring here also. Last week we had -40f and today snow was melting if in the sunshine. A sign of things to come but not just yet. We are gaining 7 minutes of sun a day. Just over 4 months to 24 hrs of daylight and lotsa c-dory.

Been nice here also. Been taking advantage of the warm afternoons to get back to the boat maintainance. Outdrive serviced and remounted, and the exhaust risers installed. Still have the water pump impellers (main and kicker)left to do. Hopefully the weather will hold. Ah, the joys of owning an I/O......not.

We are not complaining! Enjoyed the sunny, warm weather anchored up in Andrews Bay this past weekend. Should have been cleaning up debris from the ice storm, but when we can go out on Daydream in early February, not even a close contest!

Just the opposite here in the desert: there is a cold front expected tomorrow... high today: 70º, high tomorrow (after the front hits): 68º. A possibility of precip...10%. And a 100% chance that we won't be out on our boat.

Enjoy that spring weather, false or otherwise. And post some boat photos. Please.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Not so, Harvey - I consider ice cream to be one of the 4 basic food groups.

You're a fortunate guy, Marty, to be able to share that time with your Granddaughter. No G-kids for us, and the grand-cats would s#!t themselves if we tried to take them out for ice cream.

I love this place.

Best wishes,
Jim

Even though we do not have grandkids, our 22 year old daughter still enjoys it when her daddy buys her an ice cream cone laden with a huge scoop of ice cream! :love

When home in Anchorage I was afraid of wearing out my snow blower as I used it everyday. To prevent damaging the blower we parked it, jumped on a plane and headed back to Arizona until the big heater in the sky takes care of all that snow. My CD is covered up and buried waiting on the big heater also.
Our son took advantage of the parked blower and now it is out at his house.
Will the snow and cold in Anchorage ever stop???? It is fun though monitoring it from afar.....

:smiled

Jim, Hey Hey, I resemble that remark. My Dad ate a couple of scoops every day until he was 90 anyway. I got the habit too, for a long time, and now I should be ALLERGIC  Do you have to get into cold weather gear for that frozen stuff :?: I guess not if the ambient temps are 80 plus.
