For those that are wondering...I am alive!

Hey everyone,

I know it's been a long (long) time since I've had a chance to post and chat with all y'all.

So here's the rundown...

Things got very, very slow at E.Q. in December and January (before that it was just slow) so we had to lay off one employee and take the rest of teh crew down to 4 days-a-week.

Since there were still no sales, and that's what I mostly do these days, I took another day out of my schedule putting me down to three.

No sense in wasting all that time so I decided I needed a bit of a challenge in my life and it afforded me an opportunity to pursue a field I had tried to enter 30-odd years ago and just couldn't pull it together enough at that time to continue.

The short version is, I'm attending a 9-month, 650-hour training course in Port Townsend on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays to become a Licensed Massage Practitioner. I started in mid-March and I'll graduate on December 2nd.

Quite a change from the boat business but I've always wanted to do something that helped folks in a very direct way. This is about as "hands on" as I can get!

So, I'm going to school 3 days a week and working at E.Q. 3 days a week (Thur, Fri, and Sat). It's a very busy schedule for me now but I'm really enjoying the training and all indications are that I'll love my new chosen profession when I'm licensed and working with clients.

I do intend to stay at E.Q. for quite some time to come but we'll have to see what the economy has in store for us before I know how much I'll be there and how much I'll be at my massage practice.

Anyway, just thought I'd let y'all know what I've been up to.

All the best,

Geese Les, I really hate change. Have really appreciated your expertise, helpfulness, and professionalism that you've provided all of us. Really hope that your new efforts bring the rewards you want. I guess times and things do change, but some of us don't have to like them. But, like the limbs of a tree, we have to bend and flex with the wind, or break. Best wishes, Ron

Hi Les,

Sorry to hear it has been so slow! You are not alone. My brother-in-law had to close his photography studio after 20+ years and start working from home, and my sister has gone back to work because of this economy.

I also considered becoming a massage therapist as a side line many years ago. Just never did it. I do believe massage is very healthful for people and it feels great.

Best of luck with both jobs.

Steve

Great to hear from you Les, and I really think you'll like your new profession. I know lots of folks who do.

Lemme know if you need a live one to practice on.

Hey...I know it's not an option on Bambina, but for the hands-on stuff, I figured you'd prefer twins...

Les -

My friends tell me I'm a serial entrepreneur.
I've started/bought many businesses from aircraft services to a railroad. I like to keep in mind it's not about the destination but more about the journey. Enjoy the ride because there's no second act.

Les, it sure is good seeing you post again :D Enjoyed visiting with you last month and hearing about your schooling, seeing the latest Rosborough and 'your' newest boat purchase, the Tollycraft.

While we're at it we want to be sure to let you and Dusty know that we'd love to see both of you at the B'Ham CBGT. Agenda to be posted soon under the B'Ham CBGT thread, etc. So hope to see you there!

Les,

Good to hear you are still with us, and congratulations on the new occupation. We talked for some time a few years back and it was evident then that you were/are a people helping person. This new area will be a different tack, and it is always fun to take on new challenges. I for one, and I'm sure many others here on the site have already been helped by you and want to pass on thanks again.

Looking forward to hearing from you again and again.

I think he is just making a bid to get signed up by the Swedish Womans Ski team at the next Winter Olympics 8)

Anyway will add an interesting dimension to the discussions on Twins vs Singles, etc....

Good luck buddy.

Good to hear from you, Les. It's also a good thing you have never had the tendency to rub people the wrong way, eh?

We sure hope to make it over your way when we're up there for B'ham. Tiff has a job and won't be along, but Jamie wants to see the D Pass crew again. Even old What's His Crap, as the girls dubbed Dundee after he referred to a young lad on the dock as that the first time they saw him.

Hi Les, great to hear from you. You will need to let us know how that whole twins thing works out. I will be especially interested in Kathy's reaction. :disgust

I sure wish I was in a position to help take one of those Rosborough's off your hands. One can never have too many boats or motorcycles.

Thanks everyone for the kind words and the well wishes. Things have a way of working out in the long run so I'm looking forward to what lies ahead.

Right now we're in our first Student Clinic, which means the school is open to the public this week and next for folks to come in a get massages (at a reduced rate, not free). Other than the practice clients each of us has rounded up on our own this is our fist opportunity to work with folks we've never met before. I did my first shift yesterday afternoon (2 PM to 8 PM) and I had a great time; according to my clients they did too. I'll be leaving shortly for another 2 PM to 8 PM shift today.

I'll try to stay in touch here more (finger crossed, I still have a way busy schedule!).

Les, I have only one issue with your new profession. I disagree with your statement "Quite a change from the boat business but I've always wanted to do something that helped folks in a very direct way."

Les, I am not the only person on this site who you have helped in a VERY direct way. My repeated experiences with you have always left me richer in knowledge, in understanding and frankly awed by what you know and how freely you share that knowledge. This rare talent appears to come from your father, another of those unique individuals that leave a person in awe at how much can be accomplished by just one individual.

In my humble opinion, your latest venture is yet another selfless act of helping others. Knowing you, your fees for this new service will be a bargain compared to what the recipients receive.

Once you have mastered this art, perhaps you could pursue a career in self cloning. This world could use a few more Les Lampmans!

Les and Dusty, you are always welcome at my table and I would bet that the two of you could travel this entire country without spending a dime due to the help you have provided others.

Hey Brother Les & C-Brats:

Les, I am sure glad you put this out. Many, many have asked me due to knowing that we have that little Rosborough project going together now, but, I have mostly told them they needed to check in with you. Felt that was more in order.

Les, you have been a great help here in the C-Brat and prior C-Dog sites, and, we have had some great times and experiences in the build process of let's see...

Dusty's TC24 that I drove out to get,
the first new RF-246 that we tricked out together, my wheelhouse, that I drove out to get,
the first trip you made to Mt. Juliet/Nashville to allow you and me to re-due and upgrade some things and get you a little Cumberland River time,
the trip you made out to help me after my stroke to put RONDOR together,
and our latest project that is in the shop now and that should be finished around first or mid-August .......

So, it is safe to say that for a couple of guys seperated by over 2500 miles, we have developed a bit more than a "casual" friend ship....

You have been a great help. You will do great with your new gig..

I can see it now.... OPERATION DESCEPTION PASS

Dusty at the helm of the new Trolly,
Les with a live one splayed out on the table in the cockpit,
Shelley making those really to damn small sandwiches and great fresh tea...with some of her art work sprinkled about the boat for folks to buy to bring the trip home with them...

Now, what a great 2 hour trip that would be for a couple of folks. Now, run about 2-3 runs a day... about 2-3 days a week... and just go on loving life.

Or... if ya wanta set that gig up over here in the Nashville area.... my cockpit is open.

Les, Though we have never spoken personally I have read your post here and your writing @ EQ. You present great logic and scientific reasoning with regard to engine choices, hull forms, electronics choices. Thanks for your expertice. But, I don't feel that being a LMT is straying that far. A Massage Therapist becomes an expert at channeling energy, getting rid of stress for example. Even the removeal of the toilet from where you sleep in the boat is a way of channeling energy and the flow of Chi. Improving the Fen Shui' of a boat. Helping people feel better, we need all the help we can get....go for it. Hu

Dave,

Thanks for a wonderful post; it's very humbling.

Thanks again y'all.

No one who has benefited from whatever I've been able to give has gained more than I have from that same association.

Knowing that others can benefit (or potentially so) from what I've learned and can pass on is what keeps me going and oh so appreciative of the folks that I'm able to interact with. So thanks to all of you for enrichening my life and making it such a joy to participate and interact with fellow Brats! :thup
