Dave,

You are a man after my own heart. That is one of the best ideas I have seen on this site. :thup :thup

What I save in not mowing the lawn would get me all the way to the State Park and I can go support my Ranger friend, John.

DOW JONES NEWSWIRES

The following table lists unplanned and planned production outages at U.S. refineries as reported by Dow Jones Newswires. The information is compiled from both official and unofficial refining sources and doesn't purport to be a comprehensive list.

CVR Energy Inc. (CVI) on Feb. 6 reported the restart of units at its Wynnewood, Okla., refinery, a filing to regulators said. A previous filing said a crude unit was shut on Jan. 12 for unplanned maintenance.

BP PLC (BP) restarted an FCCU at its Whiting, Indiana, refinery late on Feb. 3 or early on Feb. 4. The unit was shut unplanned on Feb. 2., a person familiar with the plant said on Feb. 6.

A planned flaring event from Feb. 5 through Feb. 9 is taking place at Valero's (VLO) 150,000 barrel-a-day refinery in Wilmington, Calif., a filing to environmental regulators said.

BP PLC on Feb. 2 shut the larger of two FCCUs at its Whiting, Indiana, refinery for unplanned maintenance. There is no estimate on when it will return to service, a person familiar with the refinery said on Feb. 3.

Tesoro Corp. (TSO) on Feb. 3 said an unspecified unit, or units, at its refinery in Anacortes, Washington, were in the process of restarting after shutting down briefly the day before.

Exxon Mobil Corp. (XOM) on Feb. 2 said two months of planned turnaround maintenance got under way the day before at an alkylation unit and FCCU at its Baytown, Texas, refinery.

Hess Corp. (HES) on Feb. 2 said the 70,000-barrel-a-day FCCU at its Port Reading, N.J., facility will be taken out of service on Feb. 3 for maintenance. Last week the company said the turnaround would last for three weeks.

Flint Hills Resources on Feb. 1 shut an alkylation unit at its Corpus Christi, Texas, refinery to repair a leak at an associated tower. The unit will return to service as soon as the leak is repaired.

Harvey, years ago when I had cows, I would close the gate on the driveway to the property, when the grass got too high and allow the cows to graze around the house, the driveway and the out buildings. Then I'd shovel the crap into the bucket of the tractor and spread it out on the pasture. Since, I no longer have cows, if I fail to mow it, I'll be living in the middle of a hay field.

I just bought 1 gallon of non ethanol for my yard equipment, it cost 4.50, when you see your 5 dollar bill disappear and pick up the gas can you will know the price of gas!! Ai Yi Yi!

Yes but make no mistake that a gal. of gas is a ton cheaper than a "beast of burden"[/quote]

Chris, that is so true, but I ate the cows and have restrained myself from drinking the gas.

The oil companies are refining oil on the gulf coast and instead of increasing our fuel reserves, they are shipping it to asia and other parts unknown. By keeping our reserves low it is keeping our fuel prices high. Gas and Diesel are the biggest exports from the US of any other product. If you dont believe me, look it up.
If that Keystone pipeline is approved, the oil from Canada would be refined in the gulf and all of it is contracted to be shipped to Asia, none will be used to reduced our oil needs or prices. So dont be fooled. The folks we have sent to represent us in Washington are lying and have sold out to the big oil companies.

I don't have my boat on a trailer, otherwise I would be paying $4.40 at the pump. The fuel dock in Redondo Beach where I slip my boat charges $5.88 per gallon, but the fuel dock in Los Angeles Harbor charges $4.55. I make the 35 mile round trip and save over $100 dollars each time I fill up. It also gives me a chance to dive the shipwrecks near San Pedro while I'm on that side of the Palos Verdes Peninsula. I refuse to support those whom I consider thieves.

Cheapest near me today per GasBuddy.com

regular: Costco in Everett @ $3.93
premium: also Costco @ $4.16
diesel: $4.29 @ Quick Stop on State St in Marysville.

Ugh....

Instead of building a pipe line and piping oil to refineries at seaports where it is shipped overseas, lets build refineries right at the Canadian border. Then we could upgrade rail lines to Chicago and onward east, west, and south. That way we would provide good jobs building tank cars and high speed rail and passenger railway cars, not to mention the refineries , upgrade our mass transit to lessen our oil dependence, and the refined gas would stay here in the lower 48.

Better still, Canada should build it's own oil refineries . ( one on each coast ) . and put it's own unemployed to work..Tug

I dont know what it would cost to build a refinery but they are spending $3.8 billion to upgrade the Whiting, Indiana refinery.

That is big money

We have a refinery here in Superior WI. 150 miles from the border which uses shale oil from Canada. I live five miles away, just paid $3.67 go figure. :( C-Otter

I'd imagine a refinery from scratch is pretty costly, not to mention all the "environmental" hurdles one would have to overcome. Add to that the radical inviromental movement, which I'm sure would protest anything related to more fuel refineries being built, and you have a lot of people to convince. Personally, I think any/all oil we or our Canadian friends recover should be used strictly here in the good old US of A but that's me. The rest of the world's power is not my problem; it's theirs. Sucks to be them. But then when has the rest of the world ever cared about the U.S.? NEVER. So, time we care for ourselves. $5/gallon gas is going to KILL our economy.

Seems this issue of not enough capacity has been building (or NOT building) for decades.

Regular at Costco was $3.829 at 10:00 Friday morning and $3.999 at 6:00 pm Friday. Spent $130 on gas that day.

I talked to the guy at Port of Astoria fuel dock last night and he said non-ethanol gas is $4.30 at their dock right now and they just filled up so the price will stay the same until their next fill. He said they aren't pumping much yet so it should still be that price in a couple weeks when I float the boat. I guess I should have filled before I took the boat out.
