Great Circle Loop /CC23 ":Simplicity"

We have been held up here in Beaufort waiting out the weather. We will leave early tomorrow morning heading northbound. This was really a nice spot to weather out the storm and a lot of history here. We are hoping to make it to North Carolina by Wednesday.

We left Beaufort S.C. after the storm and cruised abour 130 miles that day. Had beautiful wether and anchored in a really nice spot on thoroughbred creek. THis has been by far our favorite anchorage. We stayed the next night at Surf city where Alan caught a few waves body surfing at the beach which was a block away from marina. Another couple that we had met back in St. Augustine was there on their PDQ. We headed to Beaufort N.C. today ad will stay two nights and wait out possible storm. Henry and Nancy on the PDQ pulled in also and we had a nice time together tonight just talking and sharing stories. :)

Where are you Simplicity? I've been following your Great Loop travels on your blog site with great interest but you haven't posted since May 27. Hope all is well.

Being from Florida, you may already be familiar with it, but just in case, don't miss the St Johns River, flowing into the Atlantic in Jacksonville. 175 miles are navigable, though the first 80 miles or so starting at the mouth are not as scenic as the rest. I missed the St Johns on my Great Loop, and regretted it so much, I trailered Na Waqa back to Florida this past winter. My favorite place is Welaka. The wildlife and scenery are incredible. I liked Welaka so much, if I could talk my wife into moving from Wisconsin, we'd live there.

Pat..Sorry about that. I got so wrapped up in seeing my mom and son I neglected the blog. Have updated it now.
Smitty Paddler,
since we live in FLorida we decided to skip the St John's on this trip and we are going to trailer her next year to the St John's and spend some time there. I have heard from several people how beautiful it is and we want to spend some time there when it is cooler. :smiled

HAPPY CRUISING

Linda and Alan

Will start back on CHesapeake Sunday June 8th

Hey thanks for the great blog. I especially liked th pics of Surf City. I grew up about a mile south of there. The pictures brought back many found memories.

Linda and Alan,

Glad everything is well.

Smittypaddler,

We followed your blog on the St. Johns this winter and were so impressed by your photos of wildlife and description of the Lodge that we booked a week there in April. We stayed in the Deluxe Riverside Cottage. It was a great week and we intend to go back soon.

After a week in Lottsburg visiting family and eating way too much blue crabs we are north bound again. We are really sorry it didn't work out to make it to the Chester River gathering. Sounds like you guys had a lot of fun. We are anchored tonight in the Wye River. A lot cooler on the water. :smiled

Simplicity: Great trip. Sorry we missed you on the Chester River at Lankford Bay Marina. Had another couple there that were loopimg. Keep me posted when the day comes and you are on the southwest side of the loop in the TN river area. Have you read the book on Great Loop Side Trips? You have a great boat for them and most of the folks at the Spring Rendezvous in Charleston hated that they had to not make some of them due to their boats being too large, and the draft too deep. One lady summed it up nicely and stated it was like a road trip of America and not being able to get off the interstate.

Enjoy and safe travels.

Byrdman,
Yes we have that book on board with us. I agree about the interstate bit. We are cruising faster now and I know we are missing some great stuff, but it is so HOT here that I think I am back in Florida. I really wanted to cruise the Potomac up to DC, but the weather did not cooperate with us. Well at least our boat is trailerable and we can do some more cruising on the east coast at another time. We want to be in Canada and upstate New York July and August. We don't want to rush going on the Tenn -Tom river either. Hope to see you on that side.
Linda and Alan

Yes it has been hot!

We are in the Lake Champlain canal now and cooler nights has been long overdue. We are on the wall at Whitehall, N.Y.(free dock w/ electric and water) and will be cruising through lock 12 in the morning.
We are heading to the Vermont side and stay a few days in Burlington. We may have to see a doctor there if Alan's foot doesn't seem any better. He sorta sprained it (I hope) in Waterford. He can walk on it, but it is swollen all over with black and blue toes and ankle. He needs to stay off of it, but it is kinda hard when you are having so much fun.

We are in Lake Champlain and anchored in Sloop Cove at Valcour Island. What a beautiful place. We anchored the Alan pulled the stern around and placed anchor on the beach. WOW! It was like camping, but in the boat. Have seen pictures on c-brats this being done and we finally tried it. I wonder how many of the sail boats and trawlers were envious of us.

Hello all,
We are currently in Clayton New YOrk. We cruised today from Montreal to Clayton approx 190 miles. Filled up when we arrived with 40.1 gal. We had a beautiful cruising day with average speed of 20knots.

It was like glass most of the way, but of course we had the current against us on the St. Lawrence.

We are staying in Clayton for a couple of days to catch up with the family. My mom had a bad fall and broke her leg and shoulder(rt side). THis happened Sunday night and she had Surgery yesterday on it. My sister and my two sons are there with her and said THEY have it under control. MOM said I am okay and have plenty of help. DO NOT cancel your trip.

She is a tough lady and very emphatic that we continue. It was hard at first, but I spoke with her tonight and even though she was loopy on pain meds she gave me he## for thinking about it.

Anyway we are continuing on. We will go to Trenton next and proceed on the Trent Severn waterway. I will update when I have WI-Fi.

Speaking of, we are at the Pier 225 marina at Clayton and what a gem we have found here. Mike is so nice and the place has such charm.I realy recommend this place to anyone. I love the deck with the grills and plenty of tables.

Check it out if you are in the area.

We are still roaming around the Georgian Bay and North Channel. This is one of the prettiest places I have seen and great for our boat. We have tucked into places the big guys can't. We are planning to stick around for another week or so before heading to Lake Michigan then south. Ran into a cdory yesterday at Little Current, but no name and from Canada. Looked like they were going out for some C-fun.

I have posted some pics from the Georgian Bay.

Hope to meet some of you at the Gulf Coast rendezvous.
Linda and Alan

Hi Linda and Alan,

I have enjoyed following your travels, in particular your recent pictures of Georgian Bay. If you are interested, there are some pictures in my album taken during one of my kayaking adventures in Massasauga Provincial Park which is just south of Parry Sound. Also, if you love old wooden boats the annual Les Cheneaux Islands boat show, in Hessell, MI, is August 8-9. The Les Cheneaux Islands are on the North Shore of Lake Huron between west DeTour and east of St. Ignace. Mark, Not-For-Hire and I have some pictures of these islands in our albums. I just returned from five days of fishing in the St. Mary's River which dumps into the North Channel, at Drummond Island and DeTour. DeTour has an excellent marina. The Yacht Haven Marina on Drummond Island, where US Customs is located, also had a decent Marina. Just off shore of the marina is Harbor Island which is a fun place to relax and explore.

Great looking kayak. We have made three so far; two Chesapeakes and one Pigmy

Best regards,
Rollie/C-Batical

Linda & Alan: Just now getting caught up on my C-Brat time after a brief down period. I guess the response to you on 9Jun was my last good right hand post!! I sure have enjoyed reading your travels and do hate I missed yall in Chester River area gathering.

Just get your Mom to FedEx some of the pills from her spill to one of your follow on marinas.... Toss a couple and have a nice glass of wine and give her a call. I feel sure other family members are taking good care of her, and like mine....she would hate to interupt your trip.

Keep on posting and safe travels...

Byrdman
