I never cheer and am sympathetic towards anyone who contracts Covid.

Maybe this will be the kick in the ass for our leadership to finally formulate and promulgate a plan for effectively fighting Covid 19. The plan should be based on science, on wearing masks, social distancing and hand washing, There should also be strict enforcement based on your 1st amendment rights ending at the end of your nose.

Naaaahhhhh! Not goin' to happen. What planet do you live on?

Gene and Mary, I totally agree. I don't wish ill on anyone, but this may be the nudge toward the realization that Covid19 is real, does not participate in political striation and that it is not a hoax.

I spent 38 years as a Respiratory Therapist. I worked with well over a thousand TB patients over that time, several thousand hours in a closed room, literally forcing them to cough as hard as they could to produce sputum samples for laboratory testing and diagnosis. Believe me, I wore a mask, EVERY TIME. Mask, gown and gloves ALWAYS. And it worked. 38 years without ever having 1 positive TB test.

I have told several, maybe a hundred people this: Not wearing a mask is like playing Russian Roulette --- with your life, with your families lives, and with my life.

Yes, it's a choice, but it boils down to choosing which side of the sod you want to be on.

Covid19 is not a myth, science is based on verifiable fact, and we need to listen and follow fact.

Absolutely! And that's why you don't want someone to have access to the nuclear codes whose judgement is so poor that for their own vain reasons they use their influence to give folks excuses not to wear masks around others.

.....formulate and promulgate a plan....
I have a plan, and I will implement it on Nov 3rd.

When KARMA (the spiritual principle of cause and effect where the intent and actions of an individual influence the future of that individual) meets IRONY (the full significance of a character's words or actions are clear to the audience or reader although unknown to the character) you get KARONA.

How can one not take note of this: A self-described billionaire who decries socialized medicine, who avoided the draft, and who disrespects service members and prisoners of war, is now being treated at taxpayers’ expense in a military hospital for a disease he called a hoax.

Unless you are a graduate of the Susan Collins School of “I think he’s learned his lesson,” I would not count on any coherent, science-based plan for a while yet.

I really do hope for his speedy recovery just as I wish that everyone infected with the corona virus could be restored to health.

On Feb 28, Trump said, as reported in the New York Times,

At a campaign rally on Friday evening in South Carolina, the president denounced Democrats, describing the concerns they have expressed about the virus as “their new hoax” after the Russia investigation and then impeachment.

So you may be right, he did not call it a hoax, he just called the people who were concerned that it would be a massive public health issue as promoting a new hoax. You people who support this moron will look back some day and wonder how it happened, much like all those people who bought Ford Pinto's even after 25 of them blew up and killed people.

This dog who is a reality TV president, and unfortunately our actual president, will spin it to his benefit like everything else. He will poo poo it away as just like a bad cold.

Hmmm,

I thought that this was the point of the That's Life forum. A place to rant/rave as long as it is done in a reasonable way. Maybe I read the original description of this forums purpose incorrectly, but I don't think so.

I think that all the comments meet that criteria. I would not be in favor of a moderator removing the posts.

Personally, I am here for the boating. There's enough political pages elsewhere if that's what I seek. But I support the right of others to give their opinions, on both sides of these issues.

If you don't like them, give a measured, respectful response. Respectful to the commenters not necessarily the subjects of the comment. Rant, rave, use a little heat, it's all good. If you don't like it, give your own opinion or don't visit this particular forum.

Personal thanks to all the commenters.

I agree with Jim above. I also think our current situation goes beyond normal politics. Our country is almost on the brink of another civil war. We have a government that has lost control under it's current lack of leadership and a Constitution that is being abrogated. And it has also effected much of our boating, so in that regard, it is related to this forum. As long as it's kept relatively civil in discussion here, I think it's within the forum rules. Colby

That's just it, Colby, there are no rules - Just Be Nice.

As long as there is civility the moderators (both of 'em) are loath to edit, censor or delete posts. About the only thing that gets a thread locked are personal attacks or language that would be inappropriate for our younger readers. The adults can be, well, adult.

These threads have a way of quickly ending up so far down the list of topics as to disappear. It amazes me how people who do not like a particular discussion will comment on it and perpetuate the very thing they find offensive, but eventually the only ones left posting end up talking to themselves and give up.

The That's Life forum was meant more for discussion of family and friends and the lives we lead than political rants, but again I point out that we do not like to play the role of Poobah and tell people to shut up or force them to by dusting off the rarely used administrative tools. The best way to hide these types of discussions is to start new threads above them with more personally meaningful topics and push the BS onto the second page.

Several years back I got drawn into a political BS thread on here and made quite the fool of myself. I think back to that now whenever I start to comment on a post here or any of the other social sites and recall that I didn't gain a thing from it except frustration and wasted time.

All that being said, any thread can be locked by clicking one button if too many people push too many wrong buttons.

The beautiful thing about our Country for the time being is we get to choose what we believe and who we vote for.

Two rules to live by -- (and there are others for sure but...)

1. Just be nice. (I happen to like that one)

2. VOTE. As far as I am concerned, if I don't vote then I have no right to complain about what is going on in the politics.

As to Colbys thoughts on Civil war. I sure hope you are wrong Colby but our/my America is way too split up and way to much hate going on. I've seen one war, and it was not civil. NO war is. The cure. RESPECT, for each other, others porperty and for the law and law enforcement.

I just went back and looked at the forum list. Here is what it says:
"That's Life
A place for friends and family. This Forum is open to registered C-Brats Online members only, and is invisible to anyone not logged on."

Looks like "Just Be Nice" still fits here. Jim, I agree with most of what you said except for the "place to rant and rave" bit. But, if someone can do that nicely, then I guess it fits.

Mike and Will, Thanks again for making this such a wonderful place. You guys rock BIG TIME:!: :!:

......and I for one formally and loudly applaud the moderators for having this philosophy. Three cheers for you guys!

P.S. Censorship is a very ugly road to go down. Funny (to me) that over the years I have often noticed that the folks who typically call for censorship, or in some other way want to muzzle others, are the very same folks who most loudly proclaim their devotion to freedom and liberty (especially American style). Kind of like those who so adamantly decry "activist judges" when at the same time they want the courts to affirm policies that they agree with. Or maybe wanting the federal government to overturn the action of some state legislature when at the same time championing states rights.
