Let's go Hunting with Dick Cheney

I to miss the site when I am on the road (or in the air as it be). It is a great bunch of gals and guys and we are blessed with wisdom, levity, and compassion in our writings.

We all have a love of the water and that is the thread that binds us. TyBoo Mike "and his cohorts" built this site from ground up. People have participated and learned we see no race, creed, or color in our writings.

Ya know... old TyBoo might just make a good selection for Congress... seems as though they have a problem getting along with each other. looks to me that Mike has a much better track record than all of Congress put together.

Mike... what do ya think? Butch

PS... Mike... how's the horse and your granddaughter doing... have not heard much of late?

Maybe the reason some people are offended with this thread is because, some of the statements meant to be jokes is based on miss information or lies. I don’t mean the people here are liars. The Press, TV news, and Commentators have a way of not reporting fact and in some cases, fabricating the news. There has been a lot of it going on with this story. Therefore, when jokes are based on miss information or lies, it offends some. When it comes to politics, it can be dangerous to discuss it amongst friends. I personally don’t have a problem with it. But not on this forum. If I were to discuss politics with any one here, it would be by PM only.

Maybe Dave was typing in red for a reason-listing to starboard? In my mind the real pressing question which no one had reported on-did he hit the quail?

The discussion of politics and other issues that have a PC position are apparently a little tough for some to handle in this forum.

On the other hand, some of us who have been around awhile, perhaps a little too long, feel we know each other well enough to kid around and be outright rude to each other in jest, just for the fun of it.

One of the primary reasons I go the the Seattle Boat Show and C-Brat Convention each year is to meet folks in person to know more about them, to strengthen our friendships, and to know enough about each one's personal disposition to gauge how frank, personal, humorous, and even rude one can get in speaking with them, just to be friendly and real.

Although I've logged over 1100 posts here with over 95% of them purely informational about boat issues, I often feel a need to go beyhond simple boating information to be a little more human and personal.

Usually politics and religion don't come into play in these exchanges, but sometimes they do, and there done in good taste with thoughtful considerations to all. We do, indeed, have a close knit community here with folks who know each other well enough to be nice while enjoying our friendships fully.

I personally don't want anyone else here telling me what subjects I can and cannot discuss, and think that thoughtful personal discretion will have to be used by each person as they decide how far to go on delicate issues.

Thanks for listening to this $0.02 edition of my thoughts!

Joe.

Well said, Joe - my sentiments exactly.

Joe.

And yer ugly too.

The rest of your rant was precisely on target as well, Joe. For my two cents, there's just too much energy devoted to being judgmental today. Speculation rules and misinformation abounds.

I've hunted quail before and once swung across a buddy down field. He dove for the deck and I lifted the barrel about the same instant and the birds lived on. Feces occurs! Life went on and so did we.

It's amusing listening to the various media creating conspiracy scenarios and various PC raving, but nobody seems to stop or censors them. In fact, try it and you'll hear from the Free Speech advocates. The radio dial and the Telly controls work, and so does the delete key....

A boat term: "Cut me some slack" applies, if only to make this post "conform."

A month ago, I'd have seen this thread and reacted completely differently. But I've had a new responsibility foisted upon me at work, and even the most heated political or religious discussion fails to get me going anymore. You see...I've been appointed the "Internet Monitor". That's right...I'm in charge of making the initial determination of where 1600 users can go on the Internet.

Our Legal and HR departments recently got a huge bug up their butts. We've always logged all of our users' Internet activity, but it wasn't until recently I was instructed to put together reporting tools so management could see, in detail, who was going where, and how often.

When they saw the amount of porn and gambling going on, they freaked...and I was given marching orders to institute agressive blocking rules for innappropriate sites. The list we've subscribed to shows no mercy...if it doesn't pass the Mr. Rogers/Sesame Street test, it gets blocked. Doesn't matter if the site is 99% acceptable...one racy photo or article will get it blocked.

Part of the solution I built includes a form the user is presented with when they encounter a blocked site. Since the block list is so aggressive, it contains many, many sites that wouldn't raise the eyebrows of Mother Theresa. When a user encounters a blocked site they feel is miscategorized, they submit the form, which includes a comments field. An email arrives in my inbox, and I do a verification of the site to determine whether the site should be whitelisted or not, and the user is informed of the decision. Yes...for the sharper C-Brats in the audience, you just realized Da Nerd gets paid to surf porn... :moon

Funny thing is, when you've let your union represented/protected employees have 100% unfettered access to the Internet for 5+ years, many of them think it's their birthright to surf anywhere they want, on company time. As such, you wouldn't believe the comments I've been getting in the emails. From veiled threats, to insinuations of racism and sexism. Yup...they're not shy about letting the man behind the curtain know how they feel. Needless to say, I was forced to acquire thick skin in a very short period of time...letting them know how I really feel, not only would take up my entire day, but would certainly result in grievances and other nasty side-effects.

So, it's been a blessing in disguise. Since I know a lot of the folks submitting the nasty comments (they don't know they're ending up in my inbox), it's pretty funny to see what certain folks will write, that I know they wouldn't say to me in person.

So now, whenever I see a written rant in email or online, I pretty much just laugh it off. It's just a whacky part of human nature, that affects so many people...somehow, sitting at a keyboard, gives one "courage" they wouldn't have in a public setting. I've been guilty of this more times than I can recall...I ain't judging anyone, just making an observation.

And as many could have predicted from the minute they saw Roger's first post in this thread, it's happening here. But come on, folks - you're getting worked up over politcal jokes or rants you see at a boating site?

Sorry...but I find THAT funny. And if you take offense at my flippant attitude about this thread, perhaps you should rethink why we built this site, and why the majority of folks come here. Hard as it may be to believe, we weren't really thinking about creating a forum where we could change the world with incredibly insightful discussions on the media or the VP's actions.

This is my first attempt at a post here..... :)

I wanted to make it perfectly clear that it was not my Roger who started this whole thing.... He would be very PC; don't ya know.

I miss our boat, the SENSEI; :cry when will she come home.....?

Well Hello Miss Beth! Great to "see" from you again. :beer Cheers and many many thanks to opening your home to me again on my last NW adventure.

Things like this is why I love this site.

Yall come back now...Ya hear? :smiled

OK here goes… you can send as many arrows my way as you want to.

• If a person does not spell very well, you can make a joke about it in good taste. I don’t think anyone here would object to it.
• If a person talked funny, you can make a joke about it in good taste. I don’t think anyone here would object to it.
• If a person is exceedingly tall or short, you can make a joke about it in good taste. I don’t think anyone here would object to it.

However if you make a joke about someone’s wife being a prostitute, is that in good taste.

I believe that is what offended some of the people here.

MOOSE please forgive me for using you as an example. I do not mean to embarrass or hurt you and if I do, I truly am sorry. I will assume you are repeating what you heard on the news or some Saturday Night Live type of program.

Was this supposed to be a joke?
“You know what I really find ironic about this whole thing is that, because of the recent coal mining disaster, companies must now notify the feds within 15 minutes of a calamity occurring. And yet the Vice-President can cut loose on one of his comarades and we don't hear about it till the next day. It seems to me like a new piece of legislation is in order.”

Since when do we have the right to know everything the Vice President of the United States does during his personal time? Now there was an accident and someone was hurt. Law enforcement should be notified as soon as possible, but did you know-
• law enforcement was on the site at the time of the accident, so they were aware of it when it happened.
• the secret service also notified the Sheriff within an hour of it happening.
• the sheriff wanted a statement from Mr. Chaney and asked him to come in the following morning at 10 AM.
• Mr. Chaney asked if it could be sooner. The time was moved up to 8 AM. The statement was given.
That is how it should have been handled and was.
They did not tell you, me or the elitists’ media, until sometime later. What is wrong with this?

If I know this and some of you don’t, it could be because you get your news filtered through the elitists’ media and the Bush/Chaney haters. ABC, CBS, NBC, CNN, MSNBC, and most major newspapers have lost their control of the news that we get. When the internet became popular and Fox News channel became an alternative news source we no longer have to have, our news filtered through people that think we are too dumb to understand what is going on. I have quit reading, listing and watching them because of their biases. None of them has an accuracy record near the accuracy record of the very outspoken and biased radio talk show host, Rush Limbaugh, and that is a shame.

rogerbum I ask for your understanding and forgiveness if I offend you. I will assume you are repeating what you heard on the news or some Saturday Night Live type of program.

Is this supposed to be a joke?
“If he's this careful with a shotgun, just think of what he could do with control of the entire U.S. military. One heart beat away....”

You have asked the question so I will answer it. I trust him much more than most presidents we have had since the second world war. I am old enough to have had some experiences under each of them and old enough at the time to understand what was going on, with the exception of Harry Truman. However, President Truman demonstrated what he could do with his finger on the trigger.

I am not trying to embarrass or hurt anyone with this post. I just thought I would try to explain why some people are offended with some of the statements. They are probably the ones that do not get their news filtered through the elite media and know that Mr. Chaney is not a prostitute.

I don’t believe the joke in the beginning would have sparked any objections if it weren’t for the following two posts. They did not sound like jokes to some. They were more like a statement of fact.

Again, if I offended anyone, I am sorry.

My advice is “if you are not sure that the wife is a prostitute, don’t joke about it”

Joe, I agree with you. We all talk boats... Just like Walter Mathau and Jack Lemon did in the movie Grumpy old men about fishing. Guys and gals.... that's us. They lived to fish together...loved the water however, you can only do that so long until the personalities come out. The one thing we have to remember is we are friends first... pretty much there for each other. The one thing we have to understand we are different and we will have different opinions about a lot of things...

People we are adults and best of all online friends.... Poking fun is a fact of life and we should be big enough to take it in stride... AND POKE BACK... for God's sake (can I say that... Lord knows I want to be politicially correct... yeh right!
Keep it light, insightful, and most of all from the heart and fun... Can't go wrong there.

Oh yes and one more thing... as my brother said from his doublewide (with wheels still on the jacked up frame) Hell.... at least Dick missed the bird dog.... Later Butch.

So, in all of this am I the only one who took time to check out Swee Pea John's photo albumn to see what we have in common? I found it rather quick. Check out that nice set up of a grill and table to cook/work from on his vessel.

Great set up John.
