On Journey On a 2005 C-Dory, the motor well has 2 drains, one at each end of the motor well. They are installed ~1/2 above the bottom of the well, so that the well is never drained completely.
The factory installed those drains as low as they could. There's a brass ring swaged through the hole and I think that the swaging tool wouldn't allow the drains to be any lower.
So , one can live with it or one can correct the problem. Instead of lowering the holes I raised the floor of the motor well. I made a tapered redwood insert to fit in the motor well with the top just at the lower hole edge. Slathered 5200 on the underside and the edges and fastened it down with #10 sheet metal screws. Finally after the 5200 dried, painted all over with epoxy paint.
It's worked well for the last decade. No water in the well and it's still deep enough to do what motor wells do.
