New Guy!

Hey Amphion, I have 22 cruiser here in Vic if you want to see it. Let me know!

I bought mine from Port Boat House.

Hi Christian, do call next time in the area. And my sister in law is in Powell River so Kerri On will be seen in that area also, we'll cross wakes out there for sure! Dave at the Boathouse is a strait shooter and really good to deal with. I've bought 2 CDory's from him and he's treated me well. Like anything else if you like what you see at the dealership and it's set up the way you like, go for it. There are not many C dory's in Canada yet but I have met 3 new owners in my store in the last 4 days! They be catching on here, mon. Less than 40 large is a lot less than new. George

I do want to get a previously owned one. I like to tinker and do modifications.
Drilling and cutting into a new one would probably make me lose what little hair I have left! I really like the idea of adding solar panels and from looking at this site my little brain is reeling with possibilities of other things to do.

I am impressed with the simple solutions people have come up with to make their boats more comfortable.

My choice of boat is also limited to the towing capabilities of my vehicle. It's a Honda Pilot and its rated for 5000lbs. I don't want to change vehicles too.

If you have a Honda Pilot it will do fine--but don't load the boat up too much. The towing capacity is 3500 lbs house trailer, 4500 lbs boat. I believe that capacity is based on a boat having less of a wind profile than a house trailer....the C Dory is somewhere between, because of the pilothouse. We towed our 22 with the Pilot with no problems.

Solar panels can be dissapointing if you are looking for the primary source of power. They work fine to keep batteries topped off when you are away from the boat. In the PNW there is not as much sun as in further south and the angle is lower on the horizon. To get the most effeciency of most panels you have to "track the sun". There is also the cost of controler, as well as panels. It is a great idea, but even with very large spaces it is difficult to get enough power for all needs, so you will want to do some research.

Hi George, I met Dave at the Victoria Boat Show a few years ago and have seen him each year since. He seems like a good guy. Nice to hear your experiences with him and Port Boat House were good. I do not know anyone who has had any dealings with them.

Hi Bob, I realize that the solar power would be only for topping up the batteries.
However, with the new advances in LED lighting it seems you can really cut down on the drain of your house battery. I am glad they are getting away from that strange white/blue color of light. I find it hard on the eyeballs. I have a couple of newer LED flashlights and the amount of light they produce in relation to their size is amazing!

Regards,

Christian

And I would think you are looking at most of your use in the summer months when we in this half way up northland get some pretty nice long days :hot so extra solar charging time.

Well they had a new 22' (the only C-Dory) at the boat show. They also had the Rangers and the new Cutwaters there too.

I was hoping there would be more models from C-Dory to checkout.
However, the 22' looks nice and I think it will be the one I end up getting.

There was also a display for "Nu Teak". For those interested the website is

www.nuteaknorthwest.com

It looks like a nice product. I think its worth a look.

Cheers,

Christian
