Hello to all C-BRATS members. I'm Don and my wife's name is Mary.

I'm retired after 31 years in the fire service. Mary is an active real estate broker.

We live in Danville, Ca.; just back from ten years in San Diego. Originally we are from Northern California, and have a lot of years on and around the Delta and the bays.

Mary loves boats and shopping. She is waiting for Nordstrom's to open a store with a boat dock.

I fish, dive, and generally get in the way. Have been known to ride motorcycles, both dirt and street.

Our new C-Dory should be here around mid-April. It will be a 25 Cruiser with twin Honda 90's. We will berth it in Rio Vista. I like keeping it in fresh water when not in use.

This is a great forum. I've already learned a lot. Can't wait to meet some of the members on the water.

Welcome aboard! You have a kindred spirit in Rev. Dave of Sea Shift, who is also a fire fighter, although not yet retired. And David of Anna Leigh is a volunteer fire fighter of long standing. And speaking of Sandy Eggo, Chris from Rana Verde calls that home, although he has been spotted up north a time or two. Don't know Danville (except from the Dick Van Dyke show, it was the Petri family home town, no?), is that sort of in Da Nag country? Anyway, we have a bit of time to explore the connections...it is amazing what connections you will find here!

Thanks for the reply, Pat. Yes, DaNag is about 15-20 minutes from here. Lots of other C-Dorys around here. Can't wait to join the group.

Welcome from Laurie and Jim!! :thup :beer :cocktail Great to see ya in the Pub here. Was a firefighter a long time ago, and Grandfather and Great Grandfather were career guys. We have some others around here , most notably is Dave S. of Sea Shift.. good guy and head Reverend of C-Brat Boat christenings.

Hi Phantom, and welcome aboard. You are in good company here as alluded to in previous posts above, there are "from the top of my head", possibly 12 current or retired firefighters on this site. As an example, one current FF is in the process of restoring a severely damaged 22' C-Dory in Wisconsin. A recently retired Fire Chief from Leavenworth, Wa., (and although we haven't heard from him for sometime) a retired LA FF with the vessel "Fun Patrol". We just add to the "mix" of fantastic people that are members of this site.........former/current and retired military, teachers/professors, law enforcement, truckers, computer nerds, farmers, nurses (most notably...Nurse Ratchet.. :disgust ), engineers, "brewers of fine beer", lawyers, coaches, C-Dory Dealers, fine craftsmen/inventor of the "foreward facing seats" featured on the 22' C-Dory, building inspectors.........Hell, we got it all here! :smilep

Hi Phantom-
Welcome to the PUB. I see you will be keeping your boat in Rio Vista. We will be having a group launching there for the Delta Cruise in a couple months.
Yes, we have a few firefighters on board- I was a volunteer for our little dept. in Granbury, TX. Every year we had a pool to see how many mobilhome foundations we could save  I'm currently one of the building inspectors, our Fire Marshal tried to get me to join his crew of inspectors.

Hi Don. Jeeze, a little Deja Vu. Mary and I are in San Diego, but I was raised in Concord/Walnut Creek back when I could hunt where the Concord Pavilion now stands and Rio Vista wasn't much more than a bad launch ramp. Da Nag was probably in a Pacheco grammar school about that time. Looking forward to meeting you at some point, for sure. Where in San Diego were you located?

Don.

Hi Don and Mary, welcome to the site. I am currently a fire captain with the 3 lowest grades that you can get in school. (CDF). :crook
My wife and I live in El Dorado County.
I have been lurking in the shadows for about a year and a half now. I have not found a way to get my boat yet. :amgry :thdown
I am sure I will find a way eventually. :P
Meanwhile, I am a voyeur. :disgust (not what you think)
May be what I should have said was I am living vicariously thru others. :o

Jim and Laurie, thanks for the greeting. I'm amazed at all of the members with firefighting in their background.

We hope to meet both of you at some point.

Dave S., ya gotta be kidding. NURSE RATCHET???

I think I used to know her. Actually, I think I dated her in my younger days.

I know, it's a different Nurse Ratchet. Scared me for a moment.

Roger, maybe I will see you and Fishtales when you come up to Rio Vista. We will be getting our boat around mid-April.(fingers crossed, hoping)

I'll keep my eyes open for the Delta Cruise.

Granbury, Texas. I used to know it well. We lived in Fort Worth and traveled to see my grandmother who lived in Dublin. Passed right through Granbury. That's been a while. I left Texas when I was eleven years old.

Still, it is a small world.

Don and Mary --

Welcome aboard. This pub is one fine place to hang out when not out boating. Looking forward to some cruising up on the Delta with you and the gang.

Don Anderson, we just moved from Carlsbad in October. Lived on the edge of Aviara. We could have been neighbors--actually we probably were, but just did not know it.

We lived ocean front for three years on the edge of OB and Sunset Cliffs(SD) in the early 90s. Moved to Boston for three years. Marblehead, actually. Back to Walnut Creek for a while, then to Poway(near San Diego)and finally to Carlsbad where we stayed for 6 1/2 years.. On another message board I'm known as Don the Nomad. You can see why.
I see "Nomad" is already taken, here.

How long have you been in Encinitas?

Do you ever get back up here?

Sam Walker, you sound very motivated to be a CD owner. Hang in there. It will come.

I used to know a lot of CDF guys. Lots of respect for them.

My department was Stockton; not far from you.

I pass through El Dorado county a lot. My cousin lives in Diamond Springs, as did my mother before she passed away a few years ago.

My friends and I love to ride sport bikes through the foothills of the gold rush country. Sierras also, in summer.

Maybe you can come down to Rio Vista this summer and we can have a few brews on the water.

Don, we were definitely neighbors. I PM'd you the details. You're gonna love rigging that 25. What are your plans for electronics? Gonna do any of it yourself? It's pretty easy today, now that everything is mostly plug and play instead of plug and pray. Think Broken Leg Dave :wink

I'm sure it is a different Nurse Ratchet! This one is married to a great C-Dory owner that used to be a Wildland Fire Fighter in Calif. .....(if my old age memory serves me right), is that right Jon?.......at any rate don't turn your back on N. R.! :crook

C' Lou....where are you?... :love

Mary and Don Anderson,

I'm not going to try to rig the electronics myself. We will be going with a combination radar, plotter, depth/fish finder. An integrated 8" display so as to keep the clutter down. Raymarine and Furuno both make them. Leaning toward Furuno.

I'll have the dealer install it all and teach us how to use it properly. That way, if it does not work right, it's on them.

I'll check your PM.

Don
