Our Men and Women in Iraq

Ya'll continue to pray for and support our troops in Iraq.

I received word this morning that my nephew's convoy was hit. He is in emergency surgery- took a heavy hit of shrapnel.

Matt is duel citizen U.S. and Canada-- born and raised in Calgary. He did not have to join the U.S. Army, but he felt a duty after 9/11. He served his term and was due to be out a year ago. He was held in by the "backdoor draft" and sent to Iraq as a field medic. Matt is scheduled to return home July 24.

I hope he pulls thru. He joined up when he knew he would go in harms way and that is saying a lot for him and all the military out there today. Tell him simper fi for me.

Fishtales,
Sincerest wishes for the best outcome for your nephew. We can enjoy the pleasures and luxuries of life including our C-Dories due to the courage and sacrifice of your nephew and all those who serve with him. Where can we send him a" get well" email?
Mike 'Levity'

Update :
Matt took a hit, but it seems his personal armor took the worst of it. He has cuts and bruises, but they had to remove shrapnel from his left eye.

Here's an excerpt from his last e-mail from last month---

"i recently recieved a pair of outstanding boots,
paid for by a volunteer sponsor. i went to a website, put in my wish (new
boots), and a few weeks later recieved them in the mail. if you are able to,
please visit www.operationac.com and make a small donation. the impact you
make will be beyond your effort...i guarantee it.
our living conditions continue to improve...we now have an air conditioned
trailer with real porcelain toilets in it! until you share a porto-john with
50 other guys and a hundred flies in 130 degree weather for a few months,
you will never ever appreciate a real toilet. ;o) whoever thought toilets
would be a moral booster. haha."

We pray for Matt's swift recovery -- he's a hero for all of us. Perhaps we, as C-Brats, can think of a suitable gift or tribute we can collectively set up for him.

I want to thank everyone for their concern and comments.

The lastest report- Seems both eyes were hurt. The bandages came off yesterday and he is able to see, though with blurred vision. He returns to his division tomorrow. He should be restricted to camp since his vision is impaired.

Roger,
Just a note to let you know that our thoughts and prayers are with Matt. We certainly pray that the "blurred vision" is transient in nature and that sight will return to normal!

Our Prayers are out for Matt. :love We pray daily for our courageous Men and Women that are serving in the military and are deployed. Thanks to their selfless acts we are able to have the freedoms that so many of the citizens of the United States take for granted. We pray for strength and recovery. We have had at least one and as many as three family members deployed at the same time since 9/11, and two have reenlisted (Including our son-in-law). Our son in law is currently deployed. Our grandson, Kole, waits for his dad to come home to tuck him into bed and give him a kiss on the cheek. :love I tried to insert a picture, but could not figure it out. The last picture in our photo album is Kole and his dog, :dog Georgia looking out the window, looking for "Dad".

While some are concerned if Brad Pitt's love life will have a "Cinderella Ending" others are prayerfully thinking of our loved ones that are abroad serving our country.

:love Our hearts are with you and tears come to my eyes and I am filled with emotion. We love and support our Men and Women in the Military so much.

Matt, we love :love you and Thank You, Thank You for all the sacrifices that you make for us. We honor you.

Just recieved e-mail from Matt-

hey everybody,
some of you have heard and so i am writing this email to give you an update
on where i am. on june 7th i was evac-ed to balad air force base to a combat
support hospital. my injury (besides just being banged up a bit) was corneal
abrasions. 70% of my left cornea was scratched off and a little lower
percentage of my right eye. i am healing fine and should be back to full
vision in a month or so. my face has pretty much healed up already and from
what i can tell there are no permanent scars. i was never in any danger of
my life or anything like that, but the reason why they evac-ed me and called
my wife was because i fell into the life, limb or eyesight
category...obviously under eyesight. and painful as the eye thing might have
been for a few days, i guarantee there was no hurt worse than being a
military spouse on the recieving end of a military phone call. i was able to
call my wife the next day and assure her that i was in no mortal danger. my
deepest thanks goes to those that were able to be there for her when i was
not able to...martha, martha jr, beka and nana. thanks so much! like i said,
my injuries are not permanent although they will keep me off mission pretty
much until i return to the states next month. no one else in the vehicle was
hurt worse than a concussion and we killed the trigger man and observer. i
told my wife that being down here in balad did some positive things for
me...like the double whopper with cheese and fresh hot french fries from
burger king! ice cream from baskin robbin! and grilled chicken pizza from
pizza hut! haha. yeah this is an air force base and they really have it
made, from the swimming pools, movie theatre, fast food, bus system, huge
px/bx, and no contact with hajis. it would be easy to forget you are in iraq
here...its more like being in korea or germany. well, besides the 110 degree
heat and dust storms...like today.
anyways, this was supposed to be a quick letter to let everyone know that im
fine so stop the fuss. ;o) aight, well, i am off to subway to get footlong
club on rye. thanks for your concerns and well-wishes. uncle roger, please
forward my thanks to the many well-wishers your way and c-dory friends!
until next time,
matt

The equivalent of "kraut" or "jap"?

I am glad that the young man is doing well. I only wish the same could be said for the 1700 dead and the thousands who are more seriously injured.

Thanks to DaNag for the help on how to insert pictures. I appreciate it.

I am so glad to hear that Matt is doing well. Our prayers continue.

:love Jeff and Diane

Those pictures say it all. If anybody is looking for a way to say thank you to our veterans please consider volunteering at the VA hospital. It is a rewarding and much appreciated thing to do.

Roger --

Good to get the news that Matt is doing well -- we are daily appreciative of the sacrifices made by our military on our behalf. None of us would have the lives we have without their effort -- in the past, today, and tomorrow. A BIG THANKS to them all. El and Bill

Hope Matt is feeling well and will be home soon. Eye injuries are no fun, I've had a cornea transplant and believe me its kinda like having sand in your eye for a couple of months.
We can't thank our vets enough for their service. I'm glad they are finally getting some recognition. Wish the government would give them more benefits thou. Anyone that has been in the service and stationed overseas really respects our freedoms here in the good old USA.

Jim, work Release

Jim-
Dito that-- eye injuries are no fun--- I was hit in the eye with an arrow when I was 6. I've lost count of how many surguries I had.
