the WDFW gave us a 4 hour window of an opening to shrimp in area 8-1 & 8-2 today.
Byrd and I went out and got 6 shy of our limits .here is a pic of me pulling a pot.

That's great Roger and Byrdman, I'm really jealous and had to work today.

You were right about those stacking net pots from our local dealer. The Honda gas puller would pull so hard the shrimp fall right through the netting on the way up. I could see them falling out as the pot gets close to the surface. :amgry I switched to different pots and we're killing it now.
 
I'm out of town but Joyce and I pulled about 7 limits in the San Juan's over a couple of weekends earlier this month. We are well stocked on shrimp for now.

We pulled our limits plus a few that went back off Mukilteo. Nice to have the bonus day! Gotta get the lay of the SJ's and pull a few more during those bump tides before the season closes.
 
we went out to area 6 this last week several times and were able to fill limits every day. here is a pic of Byrd and a close friend with a couple of the bounty

we went out to area 6 today and were able to put 4 more limits of spots in the cooler.
it was a little harder today, took 4 sets of the pots at one hour soaks. persistence paid off ....lol.....
 
Is that the stop I shrimped with you last year? what are the good tides? and which current station do you look at? Might go out sunday.

Wow !....Just Wow! What a neat thing.... I have kinda given up on Fishing.. and not catching ..... but Wow that looks like fun... Roger (C-Hawk) each bought 6 lobster traps and were going to try that down here in Southern California....but then darn ole Roger got a job in Oregon.... (wherever that is) and so we have not ever tired it... I wanted to try out by Catalina this year... but without ole Roger it would be no fun...

I am really impressed with yer haul... and shrimp too ! Wow !

for MA6 curious what weight your using and floatation. had no problem last year with ladner pots but lost 3 pots this year and found one 2 miles from where i set it..

I'm using the smaller (30"), weighted Ladner pots with no additional weights and a couple of the collapsible wire ones (Danielson) with about 10-15# of lead in them. For floats, I use two of the standard foam floats on a piece of plastic pipe + a big orange scotsman buoy on a trailing line. On bigger exchanges, I may add a couple more floats on a trailer line also. I try to set at site where there is a bit of a back eddy on the larger exchanges so that the local current is reduced. Setting 2 pots on one set of floats also helps keep them in place. Another trick is to put a 10-15# down rigger ball on the line about 15' up from the traps. This reduces the vibration of the line against the pot in the current and increases the catch. It also helps keep the pot from moving.
 
we try to watch the tidal action and only set when there is less than 2 foot of change from high to low. we start about 1/2 hour before high and work the outgoing tide till low slack. we sometimes will use an 3 lb anchor on about 4 ft of line attached to the pot.
our shrimp pots weigh in at about 27 lbs
we use the ladner style pots with the stainless frame. we use a 3/4 inch polly water pipe cut to the same circumference as the bottom of the pot. we fill it with lead shot and use a plastic ribbed coupling to make the circle. we then tie with zip ties to the bottom ring of the pot
 
Were using SMI square pots weighted with rebar to 36 lbs, and rubber inflatable polyform LD-2 buoys. The buoys are low drag, but big enough to float the pot if the current takes it.

That's totally overkill for Puget sound, but seems to do the trick where we go. Lots of water to move around. We also time it with the tides and only pick days with very little tide change. That makes a big difference.

Our last trip to area 7, we had our 3 limits in the first 3 pots and had to rail dump the last pot. Good times!
 
Thanks for the info, been a frustrating year for us out there. Years before we wouldn’t even check currents would just go when it was nice and had good luck with no lost gear.
this year we got a current atlas and have been trying to time it to weak current. however 2 trips and 3 lost one was a Ladner and one was a weighted pot to 30 pounds plus i added a 12 pound DR ball to the bait tube. 3 floats tied together(one was a G4 bumper) and clipped on set it in 300' with 400'rope seemed fine then watched it sink right before our eyes tried to get to it to recover but it went quick

It's still there and is likely recoverable on a slack current. You just need to be patient and wait for the floats to return to the surface.
 
I agree with roger that you should be able to get your pots back. wait for a low tide and slack. I always mark my pot on the gps. They will walk off sometimes if you don't have enough weight. I lost one a few weeks ago and some one found it a mile from where I dropped it a week later. Don't give up!
 
i plan to try to retrieve that pot sunday. we had people from out of town that had to get back on the road so couldn't wait the 3.5 hrs for slack. the first two we lost we waited for slack but they were under weight and were gone.
 
we went out to area 6 again today and were able to fill 3 limits of spots in about 3 hrs. the currant started to move the pots so we had to add the anchors to the pots. all in all, a good day on the water. we had a great cruise thru Deception Pass going and coming . the water was quite flat today.
