SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Built and mounted a new shelf [spice rack] to replace the factory one that did not do much and we also had the V berth cushions recut for ease of access to the hatches underneath . Great day today , sunny, no rain , spring is coming.

Could I ask you a question on that? I've always wondered how pros would handle the two cut ends. In other words, if you take one big cushion, and split it into two smaller ones, then where you cut the fabric and cushion in the middle, all of a sudden you don't have enough fabric. Even if you add strips of new fabric for the vertical sides (not difficult), then you still need the "extra" fabric on the edges of the now-cut parts in order to be able to make a seam to sew them together. How do they handle that?
 
Not today but yesterday - towed the Tomcat up to Cap Sante Marine in Anacortes to get the bottom paint re-done and to get a few gel coat nicks repaired. They were recommended by Les at EQ and gave me a very decent quote for the work. We'll see how it all looks when it's done.
 
I had my cushion split up the middle and they added a piece vertically and it looks fine. Then I went one step further and had the port half cut across so :I could leave out a piece and will put my large cooler in the bare spot when I am boating solo. Opens up the cockpit and puts another hundred pounds up front.
 
In the last two weeks I have installed a new sink, redid the dinner room floor, re did the vinyl in two bathrooms, reinstalled two toilets, cleaned and fixed rain gutters and power washer patios and sidewalks, Oh thats what I did instead of using my boat. :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry: :cry:

Wow, you can fit a lot into a 27 :shock:

I had to laugh though, because as I started reading I was just assuming you put a new sink in the boat, and then ... well maybe a sole... but of course when you got to the two bathrooms it became obvious we were not on the boat.

Hopefully getting all that done means more room in your summer schedule :thup

Sadly, that pricey Dr. LED GE90 Star bulb won't work in my anchor light. It's too tall. The lens won't screw all the way back down on the fixture with the bulb in place. Back to the drawing board on that one.

Hmm, sounds like I had better get around to checking mine. I ordered a GE90 after reading that Sam on Retriever had fitted one, but I haven't actually tried installing it yet. Good reminder. (I wonder if the/your new boats now have a different anchor light fixture than in the past?)

PS: As a potential option, I know several people who have a Bebi Owl (or another model of the same light that has a different base) LED anchor light and have been very happy with them over a period of years of regular use (out cruising). The Bebi folks are good people - a couple who went cruising and settled in Fiji where they make the lights (shipping to the US is customary). I saved a photo of one that someone made up to fit their 22.... let's see if I can dig it up.

Edited to add: Here is the photo I saved of a Bebi Owl fit onto the anchor light fixture that is on many 22's. Unfortunately I didn't write down whose boat it was, other than that is is "Rob"... :oops: The notes in yellow were with the photo; neither of the people "talking" is me. I believe this is what I will fit if the GE90 doesn't work out.

My anchor light is the Perko 1209. I believe that light is the same one used for years now. Of course, Perko may have made some changes to it internally. On my fixture the lens lacks about a quarter turn of going all the way on and sealing against the rubber seal in the bottom of the light. The bulb is pressed tight against the top of the lens, just too tall for the fixture.

I may try the marinebeam.com TW-GE-15. Even with shipping it's about half the price of the Dr. LED bulb.

On my last boat I replaced the incandescent bulb in the white all around Perko pole light with a LED strip light made into a ring by gluing the ends together. This resulted in 360 degree coverage by the LEDs on the strip. One foot of strip LED is about US$7 and has 30 LEDs. I probably used 6" of the strip so the cost is about US$4 (counting the wire). Beats $20-40 for a LED bulb replacement and the strip was a lot brighter than the bulb it replaced.

Very interesting. Sam of Retriever doesn't seem like the type who would "live with" that sort of ill-fitting fixture (and plus he went all the way up to Alaska last summer so I imagine that if it hadn't been properly sealed something would have gone awry on that trip). So... something must have changed with the fixture and/or the bulb. I think his boat is a 2008, or at least in that range.

I'll see if I can remember to check out the GE90 in the fixture I have tomorrow (it's the typical Perko). Not that that will change yours not fitting, but it will be an interesting data point (and maybe an expensive one if mine doesn't fit either!)
 
Any chance you could put one or two extra rubber rings in the base to make up for the longer bulb ?

Not done it yet, But plan to lower THATAWAY into the water on the lift today and start the Suzis for the first time this year. Won't "summerize" it yet, because the overnight freezes are not quite over. Soon though. , neighbors already planting Peas!

Don't forget to replace the batteries in your clock tonight and set the smoke detectors one hour ahead. Or is it the other way around! :disgust

Ah, Charlie, springtime on the Chesapeake - enjoy those first tastes of spring. Yep, we did detect a little smoke in a clock and boy - did we spring backward. Thanks for the great advice. Wired in a new socket for electric downrigger and replacing both of our batteries. Got 6 years out of a Wal Mart Maxx 29. I'm pretty happy with that for the house battery. The start battery was even older.

And to you and El! Totally sequestered here. 60 degrees today, bright sunshine. Both Suzi 150s started right up after being cold for about 3 months. Ran well, but the stbd engine had prostate problems and shut down on high temp after about 5 minutes. Will do the salt away routine next startup, check thermostat, etc. It was running well last fall when laid up in Early December. Impellers changed 50 hours ago when I picked it up from Dr. Bob in P'Cola and I have spares if I need them. They may have taken a set, or at least the stbd one might have.

Won't try an on the water change out though, I'll head over to a local ramp on the port engine and get it out where I can do it safely and easily. The water is still too cold! Will summerize it in a couple of weeks.
 
I didn't do anything on our C-Dory today, but what I did do was swim down some Class III rapids today on the Skykomish River West of Index. So, if ever???? I cruise "Sea Shift" up to Index from Port Gardner Bay and I fall out of "Sea Shift", I know that I'll be good to go...... :lol:
 
Well,
1. I pulled the ice box and wrapped it in the foil bubble wrap for better insulation.
2. Replaced the rubber cable boot (if that's what its called?).
3. Started laying the new flooring under the dinette.

Now I can't wait until tomorrow to pick-up where I left off!javascript:emoticon(':D')

I haven't even launched this boat yet and I have another leak to repair. A few days ago, after finishing up all the electrical installations I wanted to get done before launching the boat for the first time I took a bottle of Windex and a roll of paper towels to the v-birth area before buttoning up the electrical panel. When giving everything a scrubdown I noticed a very faint streak down the inside of the hull under the the attachment point for one of the bow rail bases and wondered if it might be from a leak. Since it was raining today I went down to give it a look over.

Sure enough, a slow drip from one of the cap nuts. Another drop forming about ten seconds after wiping it dry:

As you can see, they used some sort of sealer but it isn't working.

Now, wait for a few sunny days and get out my butyl rubber.
 
Sorry about the leak, but butyl... good stuff :thup Say, on that photo of your stanchion base, that's not a crack in the tubing just above and to the right of the "6 o'clock" fastener, is it? I'm guessing it's just a reflection, but then I can't see what's below that would make that reflection.

(I once bought a boat that was half way across the country. I had about an hour to look at it, and of course took many photos. Well, after getting back home (wasn't going to be able to get boat for a month or so), I pored over the photos and found what looked like a big crack in the fiberglass near the stem fitting. Oh, did I obsess over that photo. Zooming in, sharpening, etc. It was the first thing I looked at when I got back to the boat... turned out it was a line of dirt that simply brushed away. Whew!)
