I'm thinking it's nothing more than a reflection of some sort but I'll have to take a good look the next time I go down to the boat to be sure!
 
Dave.. why is a man your age swimming the sky in march with a air temp around 45 and a water temp around "god no"??? just testing out the old bypass again?? and does your wife know yet???

Retirement is a tough situation for me as I miss the adrenaline rushes that have been a huge part of my life....so a year ago, I reinstated as a volunteer fireman at the Arlington Heights Fire Department, responding only on medical calls. However, the opportunity arose for me to reinstate into the North Snohomish County Technical Swiftwater Rescue Team (I had previously been a member of that team as well). All of that being said, it was imperative that I take the three day recertification class again. (This is the third time that I have taken the 3 day class).
Swimming through the rapids and revisiting all of the skills required of a swift water rescue tech is a "hoot".

Guessing that I plan to die with my boots on....not in a retirement home...LOL :roll:

Still swimming the rapids at age 68....very soon to be the magic 69... :mrgreen:

Just don't go swimming in the rapids with your boots on or that plan to die with them on may happen sooner than planned. :lol:

Absolutely correct! We wear dry suits with layered water wicking undergarments, hoods, rescue helmets (not fire helmets), life vests, diving gloves and diving boots. Also have Hovercrafts as part of our "bag of tricks".

Soon, I would suspect that we will again be in flooding situations with our rivers due to the warming temperatures and the rain.

Several years ago, I spent the major part of the day evacuating flood victims from the South Fork of the Stilliguamish River in Robe, Granite Falls, and Arlington. (If I remember correctly some of Mark's (AU KAI) relatives were amongst those in the flooded area and I believe evacuated).
 
Well that's better then I thought. I was jealous there for a second, thought you went steel head fishing with out me.

I dont know what I will do if I ever retire but it won't be yard work or fixing up the house.
 
Yikes. We have been in the process of covering in the anchor locker with a teak hatch. Who would of thunk there is nothing square on a boat. LOL Pictures when done if it gets done. :?

Well, I was going to put this under the "Great Adventures" thread but, on second thought only Walter Mitty and I would understand. Anyway, we launched Lizzie into Lake Washington, turned the key a quarter turn and we proceeded to toodle down to Coulon Park for fish and chips with our Ivars senior discount card. What a perfect day. An almost cloudless sky and the lake framed by the beautiful snow capped Olympic Mountains to the west and the majestic Mt. Rainier to the south. While I do miss Jersey diners terribly, Washington is one beautiful place to be when the rain passes. Dotty is a real trooper with her compromised ability to walk (She never lets me use her handicapped parking sticker). I am so happy that she can still enjoy a ride on the Lizzie. Although Lake Washington is huge and offers all kinds of great and different sights, what she enjoys most is trolling up the Sammamish Slough, with its wonderful flora and fauna. We were about the only boat out there today, which was kind of disappointing. I missed you guys.
 
Spent the day getting some major changes done to the boat. Had some boat service folks busy at work getting hull and house polished and waxed. Also removed the previous boat name and got the new registration numbers installed. My rub rail got fully removed and now securely attached with screws and bolts. The plan of attack is to work my way from the outside in.

About 70 man hours in now and the boat is beginning to look younger.
 
:D :D Had one of those days of not feeling great so had to cancel some calls. 3 hours in the sun on Thalassa with a buddy , 70 prawns and a 12lb Chinook. PRICELESS

Hey Mike. We ran out of North Saanich Marina to Wain Rock and Deep Cove. Dropped two traps in 200 ft and just hung out for a couple of hours. Had three hits and got the Chinook on a Coyote Coho Killer at a 100 ft. It was like a summer day, warm and flat calm. Looks like rain is back in for a few days so picked a good one.

You impress the heck out of me Dave. The public is so lucky to have folks like you out there. You are far too young of course, but you definitely fit as a post script to Tom Brokaw's "the Greatest Generation". Hope we run into you sometime this summer sir.

Marty.... great to see your posts sir and be made aware of you and Dotty getting out on the water and enjoying our seemingly long overdue much needed nice weather. Any chance you will be attending a CBGT this summer sir? La Conner could definitely be done by car too! Would enjoy seeing you too.

Prawning also an interesting read gents.... the season will soon be opening in our backyard (the Hood Canal) but we don't participate. Did join a few neighbors over the years on their boats (more or less as ballast!) but - like fishing - not our main activity.

After keeping our CD22 out of the water all of last year so we could enjoy our new motorhome, today it went back in our slip in Sturgeon Bay. Planned to cruise out to Green Island on the bay, but we started noticing more and more ice floats on the bay and decided it would be best not to hit one of those. So now in the slip and ready to go - probably head up there in a few weeks for a few days of cruising.

Just feels good to be back in the game...
 
Didn't do anything on my c dory as its in the shop. Got a new prop at the prop place. They gave me Wrong thrust washer,took out bearing and seal. I should have checked to make sure it was the right one
 
We took our new to us C-Dory out for the first time on Thursday and slept overnight on our boat. We will be cruising Puget Sound mostly, but wanted to do our first outing close to home. We took our boat to Devil's Lake near Lincoln City. We had a great time and were able to make some decision on design changes for the table/bed arrangement so my wife, who has arthritis, can sleep there and not have to pretzel herself out of the v-berth. I will have the v-berth all to myself!

Spent another full day working on the boat to have the entire inside wiped down and contents removed. Masked off the entire inside in preparation for a coating of Mascoat - Thermal Sound Insulation and interior paint job. I hope that this product is everything that it was hyped up to be in a previous thread. Another 8 hours spent working on the boat along with another 23 hours (paid help) and the boat is getting one step closer to completion.

Thus far, I have spent more hours getting boat fixed and modified than I have on the water. Hopefully the time spent now will result in a more enjoyable experience come summer.
 
FINALLY....FINALLY.....I got down to my boat and took the tarp off. Snowing a little but what the he--. I hosed off the big chunks of dirt, put up the antennas and turned on the battery switch. Hitting each key for just a second or two the kicker turned over. Then the 200 turned over about 3 turns and fired. Key off instantly while thinking about the new water pump and housing I had to put on last year. No more of that until the muffs are attached. The boat has been covered since last Sept.(8 months). The batteries were in great shape. I never remove them. Never have in 3o yrs w/o any problems. Then as long as I had a hose up on the boat I loaded up the porta potti and put some blue fu-fu in it. I hate that job but the 1st mate loves the PP.
It feels really good to be at the beginning of a new fishing season and I can hardly wait to go. I hope it is good for all of you too.
 
Spent the weekend in the San Juan's, working on a church service project. Some taxi service, a construction run with a load of cement, and got to talk to Raymarine tech support when the MFD decided to take a break. Mostly all good now, and what an absolutely super day to come back across. Nice close view of a whale, and glass flat going through Cattle Pass. Makes being a Brat worth it.
