SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Ordered the drop curtain today, will be installed next week. Drew lots of pencil lines for the planned installation of the Newport propane heater and its flue pipe. Oh, that 3 inch hole in the cabin top!
Then I took the boat out and fished for 3 hours. It wasn't as warm as it was Saturday, and the fish were not as cooperative either. Caught and released 3 silvers. Good fun. The water is so clear that you can see the salmon follow the fly right up to the boat. I just need to find a fly that they want to eat. And, I saw a red fox trotting down the beach! So beautiful. Nice day. Robbi

Gorgeous day in the San Juans today. Clear, calm waters, both the water and the air was 45 degrees, first day of winter AND the days are getting longer. Launched at 11 am with my 4 y/o grandson Alex and wife (mine not his) and headed from Guemes Is. towards Orcas Is. about an hour trip at 20 MPH. Kate heated up a pot of homemade soup and serve us up while crossing Rosario Strait.

The reason for the trip was a bear.

Kates sister, a teacher in Minneapolis, had sent us a small stuffed bear from her grade school class. the project was that Teddy, was to travel the world until May of next year and then somehow be sent back to the class. (his name and return address is attached around his neck). In the interim all those who traveled with him and had the pleasure of his company were supposed to send a postcard to the class showing where he was at the moment and then be given to someone else traveling somewhere else. So basically we went to Orcas Is. for a postcard. Great reason to be out in the boat for three hours.

Got the postcard and a couple of pictures of Teddy on the dashboard of the boat with a Washington State Ferry in the background to forward to MN as well.

Other than that, it was a so so day.

Oh, the joy of the first boat ride of the New Year. Went fishing, but didn't catch anything. I didn't mind. Not a bad day to be on the water. A bit on the cool side, but little wind. Before I went out, I washed the boat, put up the new drop curtain, and had a new prop with a bit more pitch put on. I like my new drop curtain. A good thing to have on a 19 footer when the temperature of the air is colder than the water of Puget Sound. I am now at home enjoying a glass of wine, also the first of the new year. I think it is going to be a great year. :D Robbi

Took a four hour cruise on calm waters on Thursday that put me over 400 hours on engine meter - good way to end the year. Ran into floating ice in Belmont Bay near the Occaquan River. Am taking a friend out tomorrow for some birdwatching. Gotta love this time of year when its just you and some barge-pushers on the river.

I spent 1 day fishing for Sturgeon in the channel. Only got into a few shakers. The next day I went to provide support for a friend that was launching his new boat for the first time. As I conducted my walk around I noticed my bearings were hot, very hot. I did not want to warp my hub by launching and had to bid my friend bon voyage.
Being New Years eve I have few places to find trailer bearings. I dropped the boat off at a friends house and came all the way back home to get my tools and parts. Unfortunately there were no seals available that were the right size. I am stuck trying to get them from the factory...
I was able to replace the toasted inside bearings and limp the boat home. Of course it decided to pour rain down on me while I put together the makeshift repair. I felt like a drowned rat.
I have had it with this trailer. It is time for a new axel, new trailer, or a new artificial reef!
2 hubs and 4 sets of bearings in just over a year is just rediculious....

They say that the way you start the year is the way you will spend the whole year.... I sure hope not.

Hi,
What kind of trailer is it, I have the easy loader and have had about the same success with the bearings. Mine stoping working about 300 hundred miles from home, at least it wasen't raining was about 101 degrees though. Hope you get it fixed soon.
Richard

Yep, E-Z Loader, torsion model. I hate it hate it hate it. I have NEVER had more problems with a mechanical device EVER. I think a smelt pot is too good for it.

The original problem was attributed to the "Speedy sleeve" going bad. After a lot of research I found and purchased the last sleeve known to man kind as they stopped making them. You heard me right, they stopped manufacturing a service part for their trailer. What gets my goat is that I replaced that side and didn't even get 6 months out of it.

I hope your results are better. I really doubt I'll buy another E-Z Loader product after the experience with this one.

I didn't do a thing on our C-Dory the Lynn Marie today but I did go dig a batch of razor clams with our daughter Lynn Marie this afternoon. She's up here drying out from all the rain in the Phenix area.
Just got done with a dinner of Linguini Razor Clam Alfredo. Boy was it good and now it's time for a nap during the Miami - Portland game.

Installed the new heater yesterday. The job was fairly simple. I was just a bit uneasy about the hole in the roof, but that went very well. My brother had installed one on his sailboat a few months ago, so the learning curve was not as steep as it could have been. He was a great help. (To be truthful, I was the helper-"gofer", he did most of the "heavy" work.
I will reinstall the port side seat after I move the track back a few inches. this will keep the fabric a safe distance from the stove. It puts out a good amount of heat. The fan is a bit louder when on high than I had expected. On my brothers 30 foot sailboat, they found that they don't need to use the high setting to warm the cabin. I think that it is going to be a great addition to C-Run.

I spent a good part of the day making sets of patterns for the V-berth hull liner carpet. Did four set but one I owe to Jim for the Laurna Jo since I borrowed them back to help do a make over on my dock partners boat the TyBoo. The other set goes to Two Lucky Fish since Mac also asked about them. That's two sets so I have two more up for grabs that we'll bring to the BS and Brat gathering if someone has interest. At any rate they'll be there.

Tim

Hi Tim,

I could sure use a set of the cabin liner patterns if one is available. I can't make the boat show this year so unfortunately I'll miss this years get-together. I have next year already scheduled in though.

All you folks enjoy and have a great and safe time and trip.

Mark

Mark and Dave,

You're the first to step up and ask so Mark, if you'll send me your address on a PM post I'll put a set in the mail. When you finish up there may be another brat in the north woods that will want to use them.

Dave, not a problem. I'll drag your set to the show but you'll owe me a beer or maybe I'll just figure this helps pay for those I've already enjoyed. Besides, sending you a set is almost like getting two for one since your partner may also use them. If not there is plenty of others right there in your back yard.

Mark, sorry we'll miss you this year. You've always been our distant traveler but it looks like some other folks are stepping up to the task.

Dave, see you at the show.

Tim

what did i do with my c-dory today?? I stared at it. Susan and i drove up to les's with the sole purpose of just looking at the boat. I mean we did not learn anything new and we were probably in the way the whole time. waiting for this boat, which is right on schedule, is really hard. even after climbing in and out of our boat yesterday it did not "feel" like our boat. Susan feels the same way. we have been working towards and waiting for this boat for so long that it just feels like it will slip away some how before picking it up. i think when we first take a cruise and then park it in the yard after wards it will hit us that we own this boat. everyday we look at each other and say "what do you want to do today?" and the answer is always the same "if we had the boat we could ......" if I am whining to much i am sorry.

I would also like to insulate my vberth. I won't have my boat back at home untill late spring so if I could get in the loop as the templates are passed around that would be great.
Thanks,
Steve

Almost mid-January on the Chesapeake, and warm (sort of), so a friend and I took off in Snowdon on water smooth enough to run above our normal cruise from the South River to Annapolis and back. This does not happen often enough! Even ran her wide open for more than a short burst, and got 5300 honest rpm, 28.4 mph by GPS running a four blade (I forget the pitch, say 15) prop on a Honda 75. Life is good. Hope the West Coast contingent is happy and healthy this new year, and that your SBS soiree goes well for you all.
On another subject, does anyone know where I might pick up a short-chassis (the shorter the better) full sized conventional (hood up front) school bus, running well enough to make the trip from where it is to Annapolis, MD without blowing up? I need something to transport the bridal party at my daughter's wedding, and I've always wanted a short school bus, so here's an opportunity to kill two birds with one stone! :smilep
