SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Pulled the boat out from under cover today. Worked on freeing up the stuck steering (again). Next years boat upgrade is going to be hydraulic steering.
Got the Garhauer mounted on the aft corner of the cabin, port side. Photos to fallow. That is going to work out great for lifting the dinghy. I may be able to hoist a 16' C-Dory with the Garhauer.
Still needs a lot of cleaning and a coat of wax.
 
Well, a bunch on Crabby Lou today, but still not done for tomorrow with the dang VRO on the Jonhson 40 (see the other thread on THAT! "No oil" alarm still sounding, need to shut it off!). The 1991 vintage Sidewinder fishfinder is now gone, the new Garmin GPS/depth sounder is functional (I think, testing tomorrow). Going to give her a little wash-down tomorrow A.M. and then off to join the CD16 Lake Washington CBGT at Coulon Park tomorrow morning!

Not exactly along Jervis Inlet, but near Egmont is the Sechelt Rapids that you can walk up from the marina to see the kayakers play. You can also buy a ride in an aluminum boat to see the rapids from the water.

Got Madi's-Bunk out for a burn today and bopped all over Nanaimo's waterfront and out to Snake Island and 5 Fingers all running fine after winter came thru nice and dry and ready to go. Dropped the hook in the little bight across from the Departure Bay ferry. Just finishing up lunch when I see C-Daisy disappearing around the corner into Departure Bay. Have a good trip Karl and crew. The weather was just about to get on to blow and rain a bit so not sure how far you guys would be aiming for today. have a fun trip. George
 
Thursday, 18 March 2010 work project.

Dried salt spray has been an issue long enough. I have tried a hand sprayer used thru the center window. It works, but is not very convient when underway with recurring intermit' spray.

I purchased the AFI Windowshield Washer Kit which is designed for use
with my original Deluxe Arms. I have changed them to Pantographic Arms due to the spray force and better removal area.

After talking to the factory while trying to set things up, they confirmed this kit won't work with these arms. I will use the hardware to get the water to the base of the wiper arms.

I ordered another set of what is called "WET" wiper arm, that use a premounted spray head in the arm. The Pantographic 'Wet' Arm AFI part # is 33090W and West Marine had to special order it at $92.54 ea.

To date; I have mounted the washer kit tank to the bunkhead under the Smart Pilot CPU, under the sink. I ran a "pull wire, water tubing and power pair (14awg) from the main power panel area to the washer. You sure do need a wire snake to get those behind the refrig. :crook . But the hard part is now done. :wink:

While I was at it I also pulled another spare power pair and a shielded 4 conductor cable back to the battery switches at the stern. This will be for a battery status monitoring meter to be mounted at the helm. The exact meter location is to be determined.

The left over spray head parts from the kit allows me to mount the spray heads on the original arms I have at the house for spares or to sell.

There are cheaper ways to go about this, I am sure. Since all the hardware was already AFI products, I felt more comfortable sticking with them. I would not trust the auto kits I found for this project. I will post some pixs later. For now I have only the switches and tank mounted. No holes above the windows,,,,yet.

The eyebrow over the front windows on Wild Blue requires a good waxing at least twice a year. I waxed the boat before we took off for the holidays. When we put her back in the water in mid-January, the brow looked good. Today, it took 3 coats of wax and plenty of buffing to bring it back to new-looking. It was sunny this morning, but clouded up this afternoon - good for that "not in direct sunlight" application. The white all looks good, it's just that dark blue facing up that needs the extra attention once in a while. 76º and breezy, I still worked up a good sweat, but she sure looks pretty.

A shiny boat is a happy boat. :D

JIm- I know the Grand Poo Bah recommends the Collinite products. I use them too, but for the blue brow nothing, but nothing beats 3M Marine Restorer and Wax. and it's a one step process. I'm pretty sure you know this already, but, in case it slipped by you somehow, trust me on this one. Lizzie recommends it too.

Well, if that little cutie recommends it, it must be good! :D I do not let it get to the point that it is chalky. I've been using a Meguiars cleaning wax and have been pleased with the results. That shiny orb in the sky that we see nearly everyday can be tough on dark colors, but 3 coats of wax and some buffing and it looks great again.

BTW, you're a blessed man - thanks for the suggestion and Lizzie's recommendation.

Karl - along the way, not so much, but I certainly highly recommend poking your nose into Smuggler's Cove, proceeding cautiously up to the inner cove and dropping the hook for a peaceful night before heading up Jervis Inlet to PL! Here is a shot of Daydream anchored at Smuggler's Cove in 2007 and link to our PL pix from 2007, love to go back again! Enjoy!

Thanks for the ideas Warren and Pat. We just got to Pender Harbour this afternoon. Had a couple of great days at Princess Louisa. Great weather too. The hike to the old trappers cabin was definitely worth the effort. The view from up there on a clear day is truly impressive. Unfortunately we'll have to make another trip to see the Sechelt rapids at a full boil,(darn the luck). Looking forward to seeing the Gulf Islands on our way back. Plan to cross the Straight of Georgia in the a.m.

Stopped in Ganges Marina for the night. Fun little town. Nice marina with free wifi. Went into Smugglers cove before crossing this a.m. That would have been a better place to stay than Pender. Next time I guess. Everone we speak to here says "you should see it in the summer". It's much busier from what they say. I'll take the early season anyday. Sounds like the wind may come up for the weekend. Heading for Roche possibly in the a.m.

Sleep until 9 am for once. Then Susan and I spent 5 hours running errands and cleaning the boat. I had just replaced the VHF with a new one that required me to cut a new piece of wood to mount it and the am/fm into this week, so the boat was a mess. Just before starting on the boat I complained to Susan that I still have not broken down and bought a power washer. The neighbors at the end of the street was having a yard sale so before starting on the boat we went to take a look and I ended up with a nice little power washer for $40 bucks. Just good timing I guess.

After cleaning the boat up with the new toy I pulled it out of the back yard to discover that it has a flat tire and I have yet to buy the $5 part to fix the air compressor dad gave me 6 months ago. So trip to the store for the forth time today and a hour later and we are on the rode to launch at 5pm instead of noon as I had planned.

Well we had a great ride to La Connor in the boat with flat water the whole way. We did pass a nice 29 tug around hat island on the way up. The wallas that I had running in the drive way three times in the last week refused to light off with Susan in the boat. I hate the f*&^king thing. :twisted:

So we are in the Channel Lodge kicked back in front of the in room fire place. I am writing you guys between phone calls to agents that wait until you are away to make offer's on my listing and talking on the phone to clients. I just love getting away. :cry
 
I'm currently in Anacortes for our fourth Anacorted Salmon Derby. This year's derby started off on an ominous note. Caryn had a family situation that she had to attend to so I was without a partner a day before it was to start. With no success in finding a last minute replacement, I drove up to Twin Bridges Friday afternoon only to find Fred (Anita Marie) working on his boat. Well I hate to say I ruined Fred's plans to work on his boat this weekend because I asked him if he would like to fish the derby with me. After about 20 minutes contemplating, he agreed to join me. Talk about luck.

So I bring the boat to the marina only to find 2 other C-Brats moored right across the dock from me, Dwight (Chromer) on Checkpoint II and Tim from Trie Story.

We stated fishing about 7:00 M this morning, hit all the spots, used all kinds of rigs but alas, No Luck. For us anyway. Last. I checked, Dwight caught a 13 pounder and Tim's fishing buddy picked up a 15 pounder. On the other hand, it was a great day weatherwise and Fred was great company. Thanks Fred for stepping in at the last minute.

There's still hope for tomorrow...
 
It was of great sacrifice that I gave up washing, waxing, changing oil, vacuuming the interior, washing windows, oiling the teak and pumping and cleaning the black tank to venture out into the sunny San Juans fishing with Peter.
We had a great time even with my bad fish karma. Thanks again Peter.
 
We finished the derby with the one fish. Fished close in Guemes channel this morning. Derby winner looks to be 27-28lbs. Largest today is 20lb.
 
Started repairing paint bubbling on the Honda BF-135. Got areas down to bare metal, applied several thin coats of zinc barrier paint , next comes coats of paint , and clear coat to bond it all together.
