SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Marty and Dotty, what a surprize to hear that you are parting with Lizzie. I do hope that you continue to share your upbeat attitude with us on the C-Brat site! I'll miss seeing you out on the water.

Marty and Dotty,

Sorry to hear that we won't be doing another Coulon Park cruise with you...hope you will continue to be a part of the "family" here! And that we will see you at the Taproom from time to time!

Well, on this perfect August day we took Lizzie on her final cruise with us aboard. Dotty and I have decided that it's time. No single profound reason like bad health or the economy, we just know that it's time. Next week we will take her up to Les and Kathy at EQ Marine and they will sell her for us. If you are interested in any particulars, including the asking price, contact them directly anytime after next Tuesday or Wednesday. . As for Dotty and me, maybe someday we'll move up to a fourteen footer.

I frequent both the Tugnuts and C-brats sites and I am seeing some interesting patterns between the forums. One is a bit more hands-on it seems.

A very popular topic at C-brats:

SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

And on the Tugnuts site it reads like this:

What Have You Bought for Your Ranger Lately?

Not implying anything terrible, just noting an apparent, generalized cultural variation.

Marty,

I'm surprised to hear you're selling Lizzie. I'll miss you on the waters but I'm hoping that you'll continue your positive contribution to this site. Once a C-Brat, always a C-Brat. :hug

This is C for Two with the camperback we added last year. What a difference. It doubled our usable space, much nicer for overnights. The openings have screens, clear plastic, and canvas.

Marty, It is not an easy decision to make, I'm sure. You know your timing. Sure hope to still see you around here. I love the humor, the accuracy and the frequent photo's. (and thanks for your many attempts to get me fluent in photo posting.) Any time you get a hankering for a boat ride, you are both welcome on SleepyC :moon

Thanks for all the good wishes, both here and in the PMs. But, as it would say on my tombstone if I were to have one, (which I won't), "Enough About Me"..then again, maybe someday I'll get that 14 footer and name it 'Basta'.
Anyway, wherever we go, what ever we do, I'll always try to "Just be nice".

I wanted to fix the door ketch,I thought that humm, the screws were too short. I found some more stainless screws. Right size & thread. One went in fine. The other would not go any further. I forced it, Next thing I heard was glass breaking. :( It did stay together. I locked the door and had it put back in dry storage. That was sunday. Today I took the door off. Took it to a plastics place local and they are making a knew door insert. It is LEXAN. I did check with Diamond Sea Glaze first. The price was fine, it was the crating and shipping to the east coast. That was too much $$. This plastic place has done some work for me before. New insert and install labor, including tax $204.00. Cheaper than what I could do it for. :thup

We just got back from Flathead Lake, Montana. Only 4 days earlier than planned ,but we were dissappointed with the continual roughness of the lake and the inability to sleep due to the constant punding. It is a beautiful setting, but not our cup of water. We are going to rest up at home and catch up on our chores.

Well I was going to go fishing on sunday but
susan talked me into working on the boat first, then go fishing. Well working on the boat took most of the day and fishing was overlooked AGAIN. any how here are two pic of the removel of our stripes and names off the susan e. IMG_5871.sized.jpg

Looks good Tom and Susan. I know the boat is not as unique as it was but hopefully it will sell a little quicker. :thup

And yes, I know about not getting out for fishing this summer. Time has gotten away from me as well and our "summer" in Seattle won't be lasting much longer. Hopefully we get another month out of it. Oh well, what you gonna do... :sad

What I did...........I sat in my CD on the trailer on the beach looking at the water whipped up by 25 knot winds knowing those cohos are slipping by and the halibut are on the bottom laughing at me.
This has been going on most of the summer.

I also re-jiggered my anchor pulling set-up trying to get it right. Still thinking about a capstan winch in that process but it will now wait until next season.

Bought a jug of Salt-Away and the hose dispenser to use at season end to flush out the Hondas.

Put $100 worth of gas (26.4 gals) in the CD hoping to use some of it tomorrow if the wind dies down.

Well, it wasn't strictly a C-Dory and it wasn't today but it was fun and may give pleasure to my PNW friends.

Stayed 2 weeks ago at the Bell Harbor marina in Seattle with our club. Forgot it was Seafair weekend.

Hailed the marina on approach and was told to contact USCG on 13 for and escort since the USS Kidd was parked with the bow partly obstructing the marina entrance

Very efficient and courteous pick-up and escort from 500 yds out by USCG with guns ready (what was that squeaking noise ??). That first beer after docking was greatly appreciated !!!

In the harbor, we were moored directly beside the Kidd with more armed guards patrolling the dock where we were regaled by a great show from the Blue Angels as they repositioned for the I90 fly-by's.

Exit the next day required a repeat of the same process and you can see from the pictures I just uploaded to the Kingfisher album that it was a real sloooooow and precise move.

3 days later in Bremerton we talke our way into a tour of a vising Westport 43 (metres not feet !!!) CG boat that they have built in the hope of selling it to the USCG. I was pleased to see that the Navionics display(s) which were as big as my house windows still showed us on a non existant dock just like my E120.

Apparently they can sell the same thing in "yacht" version for about $22M
It has a drive in dock at the stern where you could put a CD25.

I didn't ask how many MPG they got but they do have twins (MTU 3000 series  if I remember rightly) and the Galley only had a two burner stove. (Along with yards of grill and S/S boilers.)
Only found donuts and chips in the freezer.

I'm surprised they let you get that close and stay that close! I sea trialed KIDD in Pascagoula MS when it was built and was in charge of shock tests off Key West shortly thereafter. They hung a 20Ton HE charge under a float about (classified) feet deep and then steamed the KIDD within (classified) number of yards and exploded it to see what effect it would have. Exciting. I've got some pictures somewhere of that or another shock test that I'll post if I can find them.

The KIDD (DDG 993) was the first of 4 "Ayatollah" class Guided Missile Destroyers. Can't believe we were going to sell the AEGIS weapons system to them but we were! Originally built for IRAN but cancelled (by us) when the hostages were taken. The ships actually had FARSI typewriters on board when we took over construction at Ingalls Shipbuilding and a real bathtub in the "shah's quarters", designed to carry dignitaries. An interesting time.

Sounds like a good time was had by all!

Charlie,

They kept the whole marina open although they did conduct full boardings the day before we arrived.

It was quite amusing listening to the chatter on 13. Reminds me of a foggy day spent in Boothbay listening to the lobstermen's comments.

Amazing how high pitched some peoples voices can get when faced with a 50mm coming at you at 30 Kts.

Did they change the designation of the Kidd because she is now DDG100?

We would have gone for a guided tour but the line was about a mile long and it was 80+ degrees so we opted to sit on the boat with a cool one and watch the antics of the crew.

A friend of ours living is Seattle actually tracked us all day on AIS using his I-Phone so we figured the Navy probably knew who we were as well.

Will be out your way next week in Bangor.

Merv

Well, after a failed attempt to be a small part of Seafair last week, Notayot spent a couple of days at E.Q.Marine for a rebuild of all four carbs on her Honda 90. We brought her back home today.

The Lori Ann is currently moored in Victoria Harbour not too far from the seaplane terminal. We have Tory and Todd and Todd's girlfriend visiting for a week from Salt Lake. They are off at Butchart Gardens today while I dog-sit and stand watch.

Very crowded boat. Lori and myself in the berth, Tory on the dinette and Todd & Stephanie in sleeping bags on pads in the cockpit.

Went to Newport for salmon fishing. Sounded more desirable than going to work. Caught one small chinook and released six native coho. Monster coho, bigger than the chinook. Kills me to not be able to keep 15 pound coho when I know most will probably not survive the catch and release.

Lloyds,

Why do you say that the fish will not survive the release? Do you net the fish first then figure out if it's clipped or not or the other way around? I've heard that the survival rate is better if you never touch the fish, with either a net or your hands and just use the pliers to pull the hook from the jaw. In any case, I'm sure you've caught way more salmon than I have and have more experience releasing fish than I have. I was just curious.

I agree with you, sure hate to release such a beautiful fish. :sad
