Dave-
We gots a lot o' them stylish places down here out in the rural areas, too!
But when you drive down their "Private Road" named after their wife or even such a creative name as "Profaniaty Lane' or "Goose Chase Road", they look at you as though you're an Alcohol, Firearms, and Tobacco Agent looking for their still and / or Crank (methamphetamine} Cookhouse.
No "Welcome" signs from these types who essentially want to be left alone to enjoy their watch dogs, junkpiles, and "precious privacy".
I'll opt for the city, sidewalks, sewer, water, natural gas, and electriical systems, along with police and fire protection to at least somewhat keep civil order.
Our local newspaper is constanly reporting the daily batch of Sheriff's Reports on the mostly rural outlaw's family violence, drug and alcohol problems, marajuana cultivation and drug manufacture, shootings, etc.
The rural, pastoral life can be quite peaceful as I'm sure it is up where you live, but in some cases, it's more a place where those hide out who don't want to be constrained by civil order, the rule of law, and individual accountability.
(Sorry about the rant, but some of these folks are in another world, one I hope I never experience personally.)
City Slicker for Life, Joe.
