US/CANADA BORDER WILL STAY CLOSED UNTIL...

It is a commentary on state of our society that "be nice" ends up being difficult when discussing politics.

The best we can do at this time is agree to disagree. Why? Because the political extremest have taken the position of "I'm right, you are evil.". Unfortunately much of the population has accepted that as the norm.

Our common bond is an interest in boating and C-Dory's in particular.

We can continue to encourage and strengthen that bond w/o allowing our differences to divide and separate us from each other.

Fair winds to us ALL.

What I have found when discussing the current political situation and election with those that support Trump is that they fail to engage in specifics. When those that do not support Trump bring up specifics regarding Trump and his administration, those that support Trump resort to platitudes such as "God Bless America and God Bless Donald Trump". Even though I am not voting for Trump, I would never argue against such a statement.

For those Trump supporters, what has Trump done in the past for years and what do you expect from the next four years that earns your support and vote?

I like civil discourse as much as anyone, and I certainly respect you. But (to use your beer analogy) we are at high risk of crossing the line from social drinker to chronic inebriate.

I think that happened when folks failed to do what was right during the Impeachment Trial...

Just going to bite my tongue before I write more... Colby
You're talking about Clinton, right? :)

It's always amazing to me that folks don't seem to be bothered by the probable coincidence that they just happen to live in a country, and they just happen to support a political person or philosophy, that God favors.

Beyond that.....multiple Gods exist all around the world; but somehow, and in someway, the God I believe in just happens to be the one true God; much less that HE (or is it she) just happens to agree with my world view.

An awful lot of coincidence there!

How timely and it was written in 1964. One of the comments -- also very timely!
"The sad thing is that while there is a human race there will be wars, it is in our DNA, part of our nature. We will always find things to fight about and to fight for. Vietnam Vet 69/70."

Unfortunately, we have lost the respect for others, for law and for property, (ours and others), and we cannot blame that on God. We should be able to agree to disagree, and still be civil. Disagreement is not synonymous with hate. There should be no place in our lives for hate.

Hey Harvey- I hate people who separate families and put children in cages. I hate people who deny the hungry food. I hate people who deny the sick care. I hate people who put their knee on another's neck. I hate people who mock the disabled. I hate people who would deny a woman control of their own body. I hate people who think the right to have an automatic weapon is more important that the right of a child to be safe in school. I hate people who vote for and enable those who do the above. I do not hate the Houston Astros, but I'm happy they lost .

Marty, You know I love you and you have my utmost respect. And, I'm sure we can agree to disagree and still be good friends. I'm sorry to see you "hate". I have to agree with you on most of your list. I dislike those things too, but hate? It is such an unbridled, raw emotion, and it is not healthy. It is increased stress causing increased cortisol production, increased blood pressure, vascular constriction and can be a precursor to a stroke. None of which any of us need. Most of all, hate begets hate. And that is dangerous.

As an observer looking across your northern border, no wall to look over yet, I find it interesting that threads about the closing of the Canada/US border erupt into such a boxing match. I'll keep my comments to myself, as it is your fight. I just feel sad about the divisions that have emerged in our closest neighbour, ally, biggest trading partner and one of our favourite vacation destinations. Unfortunately when you are such close neighbours and good friends, some of the effects of the fight effect us as well. I hope you will learn to get over it and make up soon. Wishful thinking perhaps? I'm looking forward to visiting the many beautiful places in your country as much as many of you are looking forward to crusing in our beautiful waters again.

Just to add to the thread, here is a new link from the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation to add.

Kid wants to do a major ski trip this winter in Canada. He asked if the border is likely to open by March. My reading: Until the US disease rate gets close to that of Canada the border will remain closed. I do not see that happening before vaccines. Vaccines will not likely be widely distributed and delivered until late summer of 2021, hence border opening is unlikely before the end of 3rd quarter 2021.

I think you are right. My wife and I wanted to go to the North Channel annual Trailer Sailors gathering in late July. Not this year, maybe not next year.

We miss going to Canada

Sadly the only thing I have learned is how intolerant the left has become. Either you agree with them or they hate you. We used to be able to have discussions about political discourse somewhat civility. I miss that. Spirited discussions. Because I’m conservative I am assumed to be evil and receive a lot of “hate”. For no reason. It’s gotten to the point I just don’t say anything. I have been checking this post periodically and just want to express my opinion. I feel the entire political system has flip flopped. I seem to have more “liberal” positions then the actual liberals. I have a live and let live mind set, but am not afforded the same from my counterparts. It’s either fall in line or we hate you. Some people I have been friends with forever don’t speak to me anymore. It’s sad. We all need to get along somehow. This is still the greatest country in the world. That’s why people still try to come legally or not. Also you don’t actually see anyone lining up to leave or renounce their citizenship. Stand for the anthem. Be proud to be a part of the greatest country in the world. Respect our police and first responders, and elders. Hug your mom. Tell your kids you love them. Be happy. Life is to short. Sorry for the rambling.

I consider myself a progressive. I don't hate those who disagree with me. I try to remain civil and courteous to everyone.

IMO the GOP has surrendered a lot of their beliefs while letting Trump define the party.

"Hug your mom. Tell your kids you love them. Be happy. Life is to short."

We call all agree on that. My kids and I tell each other we love them every time we speak. You never know when it will be the last time. Same for our grandchildren.

No matter how the election turns out, about half of the country will be unhappy.

I won't put any money down on a deposit for a vacation just yet. My feeling is that there will not be a lot of cross border traffic until 2022. A vaccine might come out in 2021, but until most of North America gets vaccinated with two doses it will likely be 2022. Also there is no safe vaccine yet, unless you go to Russia or China, (not me). There is also a large anti vaccine movement growing that will only slow the reopening of borders and the economy. In China they would be able to make vaccinations mandatory like they used to be here, but not anymore. I expect that I will be staying in Canada until 2022 and I am now making plans for that time in Canada. We have early snow here and there is already some cross country skiing happening in Banff National Park, so maybe a good year for me to ski here.

Agree to disagree? Nope, not this time. The clarity of right and wrong is way too obvious here. If you have the desire you can Google and read what John Pavlovitz has to say about agreeing to disagree. He says it much better than I can. This goes way beyond politics. I know who I am and what I stand for! And if it means losing friends for standing up for those morals or beliefs, then so be it! Colby

Right again Harvey. I like the part of the regs where you have to carry a card on you rear view mirror telling you to wear a mask, wash your hands, and just get out of the car to pump gas and used the rest room. Then of course you're fined if you don't exit Canada on time. Hey, we are still allowed to travel to Croatia. I know for a fact that Dubrovnik is wonderful.
