:?: i know that this most likely has been addressed over and over...however, at the risk of being sent ot the penalty box and saving a lot of time i`ll ask anyway...i`m 6'2'' and 350, will a 22' cruiser work for me? area of operation- delaware bay, atlantic around Cape May,NJ and around Cape Ann,MA. thanx for your patience with this prospect...

You should get on a 22' Cruiser to see if ya fit.

At 6' 3" I have to bend my head down to stand in the cabin ( and more so to get thru the door). I can sit comfortably anywhere in the main cabin.

But, at 350#, you may find the cabin or pilot seat is not that comfortable. You should try one to see if the layout of engine controls and wheel are somfortable, because you'll be spending lot's of hours there, if ya get a C-Dory.

I'm 6'3", 220 lbs, and I fit fine. The only time I have to stoop a bit is if I'm standing by the stove cooking some hash. Underway, I sit in the seat and have a good view. The bunk is also comfortable to sleep in with your feet at the bow and your head to one side or the other of the entry. To see if it is comfortable for you, I don't think there is any substitute for climbing aboard. Cutter Marine in Essex, MD is not too far from you and they would be happy to have you check out one of their boats (you might want to call a head just to make sure they have a 22 on the lot at the time). Alternatively, you can visit them at the Annapolis Powerboat Show. I believe it is Oct. 15-18 this year. Who knows - you might find something you like better than a C-Dory, but I doubt it!

:lol: went by the boat ramp at lewes(de) and happened upon a very gracious couple launching their brand new 22' cruiser. i was so excited to see the boat i`ve been gathering info on that i am remiss for not getting their names. i was allowed on board and even for me there was plenty of room. again my thanx to the crew for allowing me access to their new c-dory...gunfyter
 
tom, thanx for the info. also read your condensed version of your trip, wonderful info. would be interested to hear how your c-dory handles on the chesapeake on the windy days...thanx :)
 
Gunfyter, I saw the other thread you posted on choppy seas and would echo the responses there. Confused chop is not the 22's forte from a speed and comfort standpoint. You just have to throttle back to a speed that allows a comfortable ride. Heavy deep-v hulls handle that stuff "better" but require more engine and more fuel. I love the fact that a C-Dory planes at 10 mph with no squatting. Broad-beamed deep v's require twice that speed and even then chine-walk (rock side to side) unless you have trim tabs. On choppy days, I just mentally adjust the distance I expect to travel for the amount of time available. With a following sea, the 22 can surf well at good speed so long as you trim the engine up a bit to avoid digging the bow in and pay attention at the helm.
 
:thup thanx tom, i value your input as both bays can get wicked. another question for you, without scuppers how is water coming over the sides controlled(bucket :? ) is it a problem or does it stay fairly dry?

It is uncanny how dry the cockpit will stay. Our 22 CD never had anything other than a small amount of spray find it's way into the back, even with water crashing onto the bow. Amazing.

As for the size/weight - One thing you'll find about the 22 CD hull is that it acts the same everytime in any given conditions. Once you figure out the lateral balance, and load accordingly to make it comfortable for you, it will be comfortable every time. They are pretty sensitive to side-to-side weight differences, but it's easy to compensate. The only time it is ever a problem is during slow manuevering around the docks. If the weight shifts sideways while going dead slow, the boat can "scoot out from under you" it seems. The answer to that is nobody move until it is stopped at the dock.

You'll fit just fine! I have never heard Roger whine about his 22 Angler, and he is a big guy, inside and out!

I RESEMBLE THAT REMARK !!!!!!!!

I have absolutly no problem with the Angler, but have not tried to get into the V-Berth on a Cruiser. The only cruiser I have been forward on is your 25 . no problemo there....lol... :male
 
Ditto on what Tyboo said. I've been out in weather that had loads of water crashing onto the bow and the windshield, but the cockpit stayed dry.
