Patti and I have been looking for a location to have a Spring 2008 CBGT which we will be happy to host. After talking to some other brats and checking locations we propose Friday Harbor on San Juan Island. We have just returned from a great weekend there with Fred and Robbin from Anita Marie.
I talked with the harbormaster and they would be delighted to have us and will give us reduced moorage rates(regular 80 cents a foot for 2007). He offered their covered "activity barge" for free. They would reserve (for those of you who know the marina) the end of H dock and floating breakwater "A" just for us. This is to the right as you enter the marina.
For those of you who have not been there, Friday Harbor Marina is clean, well equipped and a protected moorage. Here is their website: www.portfridayharbor.org.
The town of Friday Harbor has a number of good restaurants including at least one big enough to use for the traditional Friday night dinner. It is a fun quaint tourist town and a major stopping point for the ferry from Anacortes so brats coming without a boat could take the ferry and then walk over to the dock. It also has the Whale museum, largely devoted to Orcas and well worth a visit, plus moped/car/van rentals to tour the island, etc, etc,. The island is the site of the famous "pig war",both American and English camps are national park sites and fun to visit, Roche Harbor is on the other end and along the Juan de Fuca side is Lime Kiln (Whale Watch) State Park, probably the best place in the islands to see Orcas from shore. Here's a site about Friday Harbor and the Island: www.guidetosanjuans.com/index.cfm?action=friday.
Taking a chance, I reserved the dates of Friday through Sunday, May 16-17-18, 2008, two weeks after "opening day". Shrimp and Lingcod seasons will be open then and I'm reliably informed that both are good near Friday Harbor. So we have a place and dates for a Spring CBGT. and, taking another chance, DaNag or Tyboo will you set up a signup sheet for this?
