C-Dory Sightings

Dinner down on the waterfront on Monday provided us with a view of two C-Dorys exiting Squalicum Harbor about 5:30 pm. The first one was the 19, owners unknown to us.

The second C-Dory was HOBBES which we were surprised to see as we thought he wouldn't be leaving Squalicum until Tuesday morning. We don't think Dick saw us waving to him from the outside railing at the restaurant so if any of you C-Brats see him out there in the northern waters, please tell him we said hello.

Well we spent a week in the san juans and saw a few boats. at friday harbor we saw a few rossys and two tugs but no dorys other the soulmate taking clients out to see the whales. we did have a close call with remedy, the response boat from the bitter end web site. And I did get to see the aftermath of one of his tows. the 47 maxin that ran over a rock at bell reef.
On sunday we spotted the crazy frazies headed back to bellingham. Seems we missed them all weekend in the islands. all and al a good trip that I will post about later.

oh and I forgot the two cats we saw, one unnamed cat with black engines we saw all weekend goin here and there and they never returned a wave once, a mortal sin to susan. the other had a name but I forgot what it was, but they waved so their souls are safe.

I saw E-Fishing-C - Sark's boat in tow today around 2:20PM headed west bound on Bothell Way. I was on my way to a movie in Woodinville, I hope he was on his way to fun in the sun.

We saw Smart Alec yesterday at the Visitors Dock at Kingston. We were on the sailboat Its a Good Life. I put a brewery business card through the open center window. I hope Alec did not have anxiety when he found my card!

Pat, we were almost "sharing" some of the same water yesterday. It was a gorgeous day for the cruise Carol and I made from Everett to Edmonds. We saw Smat Alec in the slip at Edmonds. Also saw three other C-Brats plus a couple of C Dorys we didn't recognize as we traveled to and from Edmonds. Had a delightful walk about in Edmonds, viewing their street fair and dining on delicious Thai food in town.
Even though we "shared" water together, we didn't see you.....but then I wouldn't have been looking for you on a sailboat.... :disgust .

Carol thinks that Edmonds would be a great place for a C-Brat gathering.....hmmmm.....maybe something for the future. There certainly is a pod of C-Dorys berthed there :wink .

Dave,
I guess I was one of those unrecognized C-Dorys at Edmonds. My wife and I were going out crabbing and saw you turning into the guest docks at the marina. A beautiful day to be on the water. In fact a beautiful day to be on the water twice. I was out with a friend fishing in Elliot Bay at 4:00 am.

Chris, yes it definitely was you that we saw. We were in the process of squeezing in between two vessels on the dock, so unfortunately I had to pay more attention to what I was suppose to be doing at the time, than socializing with fellow C-Brats.... LOL. How did you and your wife do with the "crabbing"?

Spent the weekend at Sequim Bay State Park and had a young fellow come down to the dock to talk C-Doryese. He says he has one, and older model, that is an open (no Cabin) version, that was custom done for commercial fishing. He bought it from the original owner about 6 years ago, and crabs out of Sequim Bay or over around Port Townsend. I didn't see the boat, but he said he has been launching out of John Wayne regularly for a couple of weeks. He is also a lurker on this site occasionally, and really likes his boat.

DaveS,
We only got two keepers. Unfortunately we picked the southeast side of Hat Island which seemed to be picked over pretty good. The fishing was better- we picked up a 12 lb king.
Regards,

This morning on our drive home after breakfast we noticed a C-Dory named SEA LARK at P Dock. Went down to introduce ourselves and invite them to the B'Ham CBGT next month if they were going to be around. Owners are Rick and Jan from the Columbia River area (Washington side). Purchased their 22 Cruiser from EQ a couple of years ago. They'll only be here about a week. Next stop Sucia.

Ventured to Colonial Beach, Virginia on a day trip. Saw a 22' C-Dory in its slip at Monroe Bay. :thup

One of the sidebars to owning a C-Dory is that people look and admire them. We always get compliments on our "neat little boats". However, for a newby like me, when you are out on the water in this area where C-Dories are few and far between, people point, stare, and smile (you know like if you are in a crowd with the zipper of your fly down  ) .... I keep asking my wife if I'm doing something "uncaptainlike". She says I'm paranoid.

Maybe, maybe. Let just chalk it up to our neat little boat.

Swee Pea, :wink

John, they're probably wondering if your boat name is a "Play" on your name, or you've lost a letter... :smileo You'll have to get used to the "Lookers" and the word "Cute" (I always thought that was for babies and puppies) You've bought one of the most practical boats around and let's face it.....It's Cute. :embarrased

Crabby Lou was just sighted by one of my co-workers on Hwy 9 near Lake Stevens. (Must have been trying to trap crabs in the lake... :wink )

Geez, I hope not - sound the alarm if true. We are in Birch Bay, Crabby Lou is supposed to be in our driveway in Fall City...

Whew, false alarm! Just confirmed with my neighbor that Crabby Lou is indeed sitting high and dry in our driveway in Fall City...a bit of scare for a moment! But what a network we have!

Pat called me on my C-Phone at work and reported that to his knowledge his vessel was NOT in the Lake Stevens area. My co-worker that reported it to me stated that it was a "blue 16' C-Dory with the name Crabby (he didn't see "Crabby Lou"), he also stated that there was a picture of a crab on the side.

After Pat and I talked again on the phone and he said that Crabby Lou is safe at home, I mentioned this to one of my partners and he said, "I saw the vessel we're talking about yesterday".

That is one of the tough things about having similar/same named boats in our family. I do know that there is more than one 16' named "Little Toot", and I've recently noticed that we now have two C-Dorys named "C Hawk" in our group (one in California and one in Washington).

We can relate to this situation. About a month ago we received an email from friends asking us if we'd been in the Tacoma area that same weekend. This couple would know what a C-Dory looks like because they've been a part of the C-Brat family at one time or another. They said they'd seen a C-Dory on I-5 named R-MATEY. Certainly wasn't us, we haven't been out in the boat since the Anacortes CBGT in May. So, while I can't imagine that there's another C-Dory named R-MATEY, anything is possible.

We got a call and invite from Dan & Tanya to meet at John Wayne and see the new Venture 23 C-Dory. (I could tell it was a C-Dory 'cause it had the new raised C-Dory logo on the aft cabin walls) Looked very nice. We were treated to a nice ride out of the bay and glass flat, multi-blue water, matching the blue strips, and a very nice evening snack, (my favorite -- necterines, crackers and humus. Really nice, thanks you two.
