Thanks. That is a "keeper" site. It will be interesting to watch during the day today. So will the Washington State Ferry site with the wind speed and direction for all of the mid sound ferrys. I have that around here somewhere.....

Robbi,
If you go to the parent site you can pick your spot to monitor.

Last storm blew out the wind recording on Smith Island.

We were down at the Keystone ramp yesterday afternoon as it got to about 35 Kts. The 80 year old ferry handled it very well but there was one of the "Deadliest Catch" type vessels going South over by Marrowstone which was completely disappearing in spray well over the whole vessel. At some times the waves were so close together that it would be covered for up to 10 seconds. Which is a heck of a long time to maintain a pucker !

It calmed down overnight here on Whidbey but now it is blowing and raining again and the power keeps flickering so better go check the generator.

Well, just got back from walking the Palace Guard Dog down by the Bay. The weather NOAA has been predicting has finally materialized - the last two days were just a little warm-up here. Gale force winds. Aloha from Whatcom County, the weather is here, wish you were beautiful! Actually, stormy days at the Bay are fascinating!

Roger... In retrospect,,, I have to agree TMI... It's just that even though I love boats... I was REALLY to be on land and home warm. :smile Butch

Greetings from Bellingham. Has been blowing pretty good up here on the hill. The nimbus clouds go racing by and there's lots of rain on the windows west side of house. Lights keep flickering. Waiting for the carpet guy to show up and install new carpet in the bedroom. Joe says there goes the plans for the new radar (cost about the same as the carpet). House has been a mess for about a week. Fresh paint, too. Will be interesting to see how the rest of the day goes.

Um, Butch, were you looking to catch some stripers or some strippers? (the point of Roger's TMI) Depending on your answer, I may have to reconsider this whole fishing thing.

This type of childish snickering behavior comes up on the sailing forums everytime someone asks about "How many wenches do you really need on a sailboat?"

Yes, I know... back to my corner.

Pretty spry conditions at the Columbia River Bar right now (CHECK WAVE SIZE!):

Guys... obviously I can't spell either  or could that have been a Freudian slip :crook

Now I understand the comment about fishing with dollar bills... dah. I finally got it! I sat here and laughed till I have tears running! Spelling has never been one of my stronger suits (as I have demonstrated more than once here on my favorite site).

Guys... given that I seem to be denser than West Virginia creek mud :teeth ... you'll have to figure out a way to literally draw me a picture in your post. About the worst I have done was in spelling the name Butch. Just take a look at what's to the right of the 'u' on the keyboard and you'll understand. The worst part is ... spell check does not catch it...

I have had my laugh for today... thanks Roger :thup

Roger (Fishtales) and I went out yesterday....went to Ventura for lunch...it was great...ate way too much... the ocean was great...flat as a lake...it was a bit foggy but well worth the ride...we all totally enjoyed it...

Today was HOT !! probably 80's.... I am having a new roof put on the ole hacienda and I felt bad for the roofers....

Sunday night / Monday morning was the worst of all, national news had the wind in Whatcom County (Bellingham) at 90 mph, and I certainly could believe it...silly little Palace Guard Dog was getting blown sideways on our early Monday a.m. walk along the Bay. The waves crashing over the road were awesome! By the time it quieted down in the afternoon it was time to head back to Fall City. No boating on our three day weekend...did get new tires on the trailer, removed the old peeling Johnson stickers and got my GPS, a cabin light and a 12 volt socket installed though.

I saw the reports on the national news about the nasty winds - they specifically mentioned 97 mph in Bellingham. Hope all you NW Brats are weathering this OK!

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Guys and Gals... are winds like that a norm for your neck of the woods this time of year?

Not the norm, but not that unusual either. We can get high winds any time between Oct and April. I remember a good storm a few years back on Easter. We lost power and had to go out for dinner. On the way past the N end of Juanita Bay (on Lake Washington), I saw two guys in wet suits. One was surfing on 3-4 waves that were generated by the 40-50MPH winds. The other was trying to wind surf but could lift the sail off the water. I haven't seen anything like it before or since on the lake.

I remember a Thanksgiving Day wind storm some time around 21 -24 years ago. The power went out just as we'd finished cooking the entire turkey dinner. No problem with plenty of hot food to eat but we did find ourselves in the shop heating our "hot buttered rums" with the welding torch!

I remember both the 1962 Columbus Day storm and the 1983 Thanksgiving Day storm. I lived in Seattle and went down on Alki Point for the Columbus Day storm and played in the surf.

The Thanksgiving Day storm, we lost power like DaveS just before the turkey finished cooking. We had a big wood heater/cook stove and finished the turkey dinner on it. Power was not restored for 10 or 11 days afterward.
