SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

Today I had to put my boat up for the winter. Our launching facility closed on Sept. 5 for the season.
I cleaned out the cabin, power washed the back deck, repacked the wheel brgs. on the trailer and covered it all up.
This is an awful day for me as I will not be able to use it again until late April.
:( :( :( :(

Catman, the fishing partner has been working all summer and is now off to college at Klamath Falls. It's going to be slim pickens around here untill he finishes school and we hit him with the 30% offspring tax....I hope to see ya at Sequim

Milehog, the waiting is the worst, how many pounds of marine supply catalogs do you have stored in the restroom?

Ken, You took your original top mount sink and made an undermount out of it ? Then made a drop in filler ? Did you just formica over your existing formica ? Ken ? Pictures please.....

Yup, the factory sink has a flat flange that lended itself to just drilling & screwing. I don't know what that white counter top material is but it isn't formica. I gave the factory surface a good sanding to rough it up and the new stuff stuck right proper to it. I'll get some pictures of the mess, but it will take a day or two....OK, I threw some pics in the B~C album

hey thanks, I was in Woodland the other day picking up some boat parts and spied you headed back from Swift...how was it up there?

It was great. We got there late Saturday afternoon and stayed until the middle of Tuesday afternoon. The lake was very interesting with lots of coves, inlets, fingers and a waterfall. Makes it seem larger than it really is. This time of year most people have left, so there was not many people/boaters on the water. Terri liked the lake enough that she wants to go again next year. I prefer to go where I have not been before.

While we were there we looked up a lady from Portland that has a summer cabin on the lake. She is a friend of nscogin whom is a member on this site and has a 22’ C-Dory. The lady from Portland is interested in getting a boat and is considering a 16’ C-Dory cruiser. Showed her my boat and gave her a ride in it.

Will try and post some pictures of our time on the lake within the next few days.

And I heard from my friend that the ride was great! Thanks for taking her out, Dave. This site is an amazing way for people to connect.

Is she ready to get a boat and join the group?
Of course, she doesn't have to have a boat to join. However, joining is a good way to ask questions and get a variety of expert opinions about the boats and boating.

By the way, it was my pleasure to take her for a ride. She seems like a great person. Terri really liked her. She said anyone that is digging in the dirt when she meets them is the type of person she likes.

Had a nice weekend on/with SeaDNA. I had a retreat scheduled with a bunch of other scientists to work on ideas for a new grant. They wanted to hold it in Seattle and I suggested Port Ludlow Resort as a nice place. My ulterior motive (of course) was a place that I could boat to. Launch the boat at Edmonds around 10:30AM and made arrangements to keep it tied there until 2:30PM. Drove down to work to await the arrival of a scientist friend from Yale. He took a taxi from SeaTac to my office and we went immediate up to Edmonds. Fri. was a beautiful day for a boat ride and we mosy'd over to Port Ludlow in a little over 90mins (I stopped over one school of bait to fish for a few minutes - nothin biting).

Moored up at Port Ludlow for Fri. and Sat. evening and checked into the resort hotel. Wow - what a nice place! The room had a big soaking tub, a fireplace, a nice table a few cushy chairs, nice linens and a view onto the marina - I could see my boat from my room. They were setting up a craft fair for Sat when we arrived. My friend and I went up to the Harbor Master restaurant and had a few beers and some appetizers for a snack (neither he nor I had lunch so we needed something to tide us over for dinner). The restaurant there is one of my favorite stops for lunch when fishing for winter blackmouth. After, we walked the docks and saw 3 other CDs - CheckRaise was one of them but I don't remember the names of the other 2 - they were all moored close to each other.

Sat. a local colleague arrived in the AM with his family in tow. They browsed the craft fair while we worked through lunch. We took an afternoon break and I took he, his wife and his two kids out for a brief boat ride. The marina had a few life jackets in kid sizes that I could borrow courtesy the local yacht club. That was nice, as I hadn't planned on taking his kids out until I saw that kid sized life jackets were available. We cruised out to Colvos rocks and saw the seals. My friend's 7 year old girl got to drive on the way out (with LOTS of help) and his son drove on the way back (with not so much help). The little girl loved the ride and squeeled when she saw the seals. More work for a few hours and then I took the rest of the crowd out for a sunset boat ride.

Got up this AM around 5:15 and was off the dock by 5:45. Fished Foulweather Point, Point No Point and Possession. Finally caught one fish - about 4lb coho at Possession. Returned to Edmonds and moored the boat there until Wed AM. I'll be getting out Tues and Wed AM for some early morning fishing. All-in-all, an excellent weeked.

Took a couple of good friends Halibut fishing Saturday, Easy limits of 2 fish each, most over 40 inches, very good eating quality.
The ocean was not real friendly but Sea Lion handled it great. I love the trim tabs, should have done it years ago.

Got skunked ('cept for shakers) 2 days straight in areas 13 & 11 respectively Sat & Sun. Had lotsa fun tho, saw a shark actually finning around near the mouth of Gig Harbor, looked to be about a 6-7 footer...have never seen that before around here, wonder if it was injured..?

Way to go Ray! I talked to our neighbors who got in late Saturday evening -- they got 2, and said it was pretty rough in the morning, but that it'd flattened out during the day. We stayed inside, trolling for salmon. I caught a 14" diameter cluster of oysters, tossed 'em back, caught one crab that was trying to have its way with my herring, tossed it back, had one salmon on -- felt GREAT!! -- it swam directly at me and I couldn't reel fast enough to set the hook...it got to the boat, bumped the bottom of the boat and spit the hook...kinda an "in your face" in salmon talk, I think

Home, sweet home. We got back late last night (9/21/06). Two months and a week, mostly powercruising. Over 8,000 miles on the truck (of course, it was almost 2800 miles just to get the boat). Around 80 hours on the boat motor (haven’t had a chance yet to figure the miles). About an equal number of nights on the hook and in marinas. I lost 10 pounds during that time; you do a lot of walking when you’re cruising, and way less snacking; more healty meals, no fast food. Temperatures from 119º to 39º. We used just over two gallons of diesel in the Wallas stove/heater. Joan has the numbers for fuel in the truck and in the boat... I don’t even want to know. Gas prices from $2.06 (coming back in deep south Texas) to $4.39 in the San Juans; diesel ran $2.36 to $3.79. Nice thing about a trailerable boat: you can fill up at gas stations on land where the prices are usually better than on the water.

Our cruising was interrupted by a family loss. We originally planned to head back out after the first of the year after bringing the boat back to Texas... that’s still the plan. Our family situation may change the duration of our time out, but that remains to be seen.

We rolled onto our little island after 10:00 last night, and had Wild Blue back in the water before 10:00 this morning. We took the time for a short cruise around the island... winds 20-30, 2 foot chop... and hot: 90º (it was 84º when I first went outside at 7:30). The humidity was about 389%; the Weather Channel was calling the heat index at 105º. After our time in the San Juans, I was concerned that my sweat glands had quit working... no worry - like riding a bike, I remembered how to sweat like a farm animal. BTW, the boat handled the chop like it was nothing, we saw dolphins playing, pelicans diving, and it was so good to be back at the helm again.

Other than our short cruise today, we spent the day getting the house opened back up; Joan stocked us up on food while I cleaned the boat. My neighbor asked, “Is that boat fast?” I told him, “Look at all the bugs smashed on my radar dome... what do you think?” Wild Blue is at the dock at our house, ready to head out as soon as we are.

Best wishes,
Jim B.

Here's a shot from Lake Powell, the last image I shot before we had to leave...

Hi Jim and Joan,

We sure do miss running into you down at Squalicum Marina but happy to read your post that you made it home safely. Wild Blue looks great!

So, what did I do on my C-Dory today? Nothing! My bank dropped the ball on the loan and it has taken twice as long to process it as it should have. The dealer is closed Monday so I hope to take possesion Tuesday.
The bank has a new president that is a consumate beaurocrat. In his quest for more paperwork he has lost site of customer service. I've been with this bank for some time and have never overdrawn, missed a payment, ect. Up till now they have rewarded my loyalty with unbeatable service and terms. I had a frank chat with one of the bank's vice presidents a couple days ago and expressed my feelings about the whole situation. In the bank's favor they did give me a $75 gift certificate to a good restaurant and knock about $300 off the loan fees. But dagnabbit, I want my boat!!!
I've commited to making the Sequim Bay Rally on friday, It's gonna be tight, I dunno if I'll have a chance to install the VHF. At least I have a handheld.
Sorry about the rant.

Milehog- Well, that just doesn't sound like a very fun time, beaurocratic B.S. argg.....that initial tow home was kind of memorable event for us, I didn't think I could grin that large for that long. It sounds like you're going to find out how large a grin one can maintain if that initial tow is from Or City to Sequim :)
I'll keep an eye out for a new boat in town.

If you're really craving a C-Dory activity between now and Sequim, you could come over and help give the Blue~C a coat of wax :)
