SO WHAT DID YOU DO WITH OR ON YOUR C-DORY TODAY??

...We see dolphins almost every day we are out,...
You have a great picture of the dolphins in your photo album.
Lets make it easy for people to see it. For a larger picture click on the thumbnail below.

And that gas you are buying so cheap was probably from Alaskan oil refined at Anacortes to boot! Here, the manipulation of gas price by "zones" is outrageous. In Seattle on the way to Shilshole, we saw a couple of stations at $2.59, here in Fall City, it is $2.79, and a few places are still over $3.00, one up around $3.19 - all buying gas from the same suppliers. It is criminal.

One last bright spot: gas on the water here is selling for $2.26 (about $2/gal less than what they were getting at Friday Harbor last month); I might not have to sell a kidney after all.

October 1st

This afternoon, we went out for an island-circle tour/dolphin watch/sunset cruise. The dolphins were playing around the boat (it never gets old)...

Looks like the one is smiling at us!

About 2/3 of the way around, flashing blue lights got my attention. We weren't speeding, were we? Nah, it was a quiet evening, we were there, time for a safety inspection...

The two young Coast Guard gents came aboard and gave us the "good as gold" sheet (gets you out of another inspection for a year). They asked a few questions about the boat... like "how fast, range, been fishing?" This close to the border, they aren't just making conversation.

The waterfowl portion of the tour: osprey, pelicans, blue herons, and this roseat spoonbill...

And the sunset part of the cruise...

Nice evening on the water.

Best wishes,

Great pics Jim!

We just returned form Lake Powell today. We had perfect weather for the second week and good weather the first. Since we were with a group we did not have our C-Dory, next itme.

Jim - how long did you spend at Lake Powell and how was your trip?

Steve

Thursday morning we departed from Bellingham with a plan that we'd spend the evening at Port Townsend. Great trip southbound. Fog was 2-3 miles out and not that heavy. Nice calm water. Only took 2 hours 45 minutes from B'Ham to PT. Once in PT, we just walked the entire town. Supper was fish and chips at the Bayview Cafe. Visited nearly every shipyard that's at PT and I think most of the docks, too.

Our departure from PT was mid Friday morning and we encountered a LOT of fog. It was a very slow trip to Sequim, arriving there about one o'clock. So on Sunday morning after a great weekend with the C-Brats we left Sequim 9 am for B'Ham. Four hours to B'Ham. Maybe 1 to 2+ waves on the trip home but NOTHING like last year... No fog either.

We (Cindy, grandson, and myself) launched Delta Belle in Vicksburg, MS on Sat and travelled up the Miss River about 20 miles looking for any nice sand bar to anchor behind. We found a nice place which was was actually an old canal of the Yazoo River and anchored behind a small peninsula (20' x 40'). While we set up to fish, we had 3 boats stop and ask if they could look at our C-22. We had a great time talking about the boat to the 10 people that visited. Afterwards we built a bonfire and cooked hot dogs and marshmallows and generally had a good ole time. I noticed that the water was creeping up a little bit and commented that I didn't know that The River had a tide! About 1:00 am I was awakened by the boat gently rolling. I popped my head out of the forward hatch and saw that our peninsula had disappeared! By the next morning The River had risen about 3 feet. We explored sand bars the next morning and our grandson was thrilled to find a basketball and a soccer ball. Delta Belle gave us another beautiful weekend trip.

My TAP class got out early today, so I went to the boat and practiced docking... It's getting better, yesterday my son (6 yrs old) said it was like an airplane landing... real smooth

Anybody have a fix for getting the rub marks out of the paint stripe on the hull? Really would be a shame to ruin the paint by going at it the wrong way!

Mike on C-Tour.

Monday AM 10/2. Launched the TC at John Wayne Marina. Took Bill and Kim Gillette from Slow N Easy for a ride to the New Dungeness Lighthouse. They hadn't seen a completed operational TomCat before and enjoyed seeing how one works in the water.

After securing Dreamer in a borrowed slip, we assisted somewhat in the recovery of Slow N Easy and had lunch in Sequim with Bill and Kim. They were to start their return trip to Crescent City CA this afternoon.

Always nice meeting C-Dory folks.

Sorry we missed the get together in our own back yard but a death in my wife's family took us to CA for 2 weeks and we returned, somewhat drained Saturday night.

We've been so busy since we moved this summer that we haven't had much time to post anything. Yesterday I started refinishing all of the teak on the boat, as well as adding a CD player, speakers and a port for ipod. The CD player is going in an oak face panel I made for the helm shelf. Also included are 3 brass weather station instruments. Should look pretty cool when it is all done. Trying to get this and some other stuff done before the Gulf Coast Gathering on the 20th.

Well, yesterday Marie laid down the law. Tools come off the boat and we start using it every day--and some overnighters this week--enough work.

So, after finishing a "few" projects--but about 3 PM we were underway. Some of you know I had to replace the anti siphon valve on the port fuel tank--and had not reprived it since--so I was worried if the pump could draw up that fuel...not to worry! Those Suzk's took off and didn't stop for 4 hours--and about 120 nautical miles later. (still didn't budge the gas guage much either).

Today was "Try out Catmarans at the Orange Beach Al dealers" (we had been invited and declined because of our purchse of the Tom Cat 255)

First we came upon a Glacier Bay 34--sort of eased up along side, gave a smile and thumbs up--he took the bait--after all what could that little "houseboat" do next to a $400,000 Glacier Bay? Well he dropped out at 32 knots--we went right on up to 40. Next was a 2670 Glacier Bay--he did slightly better at about 36 knots, but again we smoked him. The World cat did about the same--so we let it go all of the way up to about 43 knots, just to show the "flag".
Comming back to our house, we saw a ProKat 23--and the same thing happened--I think he lost sight of us by the time we got to Lillian Bridge.
Too bad we didn't have some "Wefing's Marine" banners to fly!

That boat really smokes. We have fuel guages working properly now. At 5 knots (all speeds are in knots) we are burning one gallon an hour for both engines. This gives us an ideal range of 675 miles with 10% reserve!

We have worked out the trim on the boat so we can hold it easily at any speed including the ones in the 10 to 18 knot range--just takes some work on the trim.
We found that from 23 to 28 knots we were burning 2.3 to 2.4 miles a gallon (smooth to light ripple conditions, but the boat now has air conditioning (RV on top), Radar, and at least 1000 more pounds of "gear" aboard. She still cruises in the 35 knot range in the high 4000 RPM, and tops out at about 43 knots, at red line of 6000 RPM.

Having deduced that the cost of a fridge, shore power, and an additional battery could buy ALOT of beer, I've looked for ways to improve the factory icebox that so many of you just love.

On a Home Depot run today, I bought some Reflectix insulation and headed for the boat. Turns out that Reflectix is basically bubble wrap covered in foil, so what better way to MacGyver it together than with duct tape? The doctored-up icebox certainly looks like it'd keep my Rainier Dry colder and if I stick my head in there I'm sure it'll keep aliens and the government out of my thoughts  .

hey there, I applaude your efforts to turn that icebox into a usable object, but, if you tire of wearing that icebox on your noggin, you might try this http://zapatopi.net/afdb/ and a good cooler that fits in that vacated icebox opening....it's so much nicer to be able to fill the cooler in the kitchen and lug it out to the boat.

Spent a good chunk of yesterday with Meguiars Color Restorer (for light oxidation) and Meguiars Pure Wax, getting Crabby Lou lookin' good. She really looks almost like new! Going to need the stuff for heavy oxidation on the part below the water line, but a little rubbing with the light oxidation stuff tells me this is going to clean up nicely too. The old boat cover from the 16' Smoker Craft that I stuffed in a box in the garage, which was a generic cover for 16' - 19' foot boats, fits nicely over the top! Anyone know where we can get some replacement decals for the outboard cowlings? Johnson 40 and Johnson 8, vintage 1992. Next weekend we splash her at Blaine, run around to Birch Bay, hopefully WDFW will have re-opened crab season...

Pat-

You can usually buy repladement decals from a dealer for the same brand moor, but most of them are available on ebay for a lot less. Just have to use their search engine a bit.

Fun having a new boat, eh?

Joe.

B~C/Ken, I am starting to understand how and why your responses to the many questions on these forums are so well thought out and informative, yet another testimonial to the benefits of the AFDB.

Yes, I definitely need four of them, one each for Patty, Austin and me, and I certainly HOPE they make a doggie sized one for Baxter, as his brain needs extra protection, with as few functioning cells as it seems to have (I am sure if we had owned a doggie AFDB right from the start, there would be a lot fewer spots on our carpets!

We need and AFDB for President George W. "Dubbya" Bush, as his mind is obviously under some unidentified mysterious force's control:
